Hubei (Chinese: 湖北; pinyin: Húběi; Wade–Giles: Hu-pei) is a province of China, located in the easternmost part of Central China. The name of the province means "north of the lake", referring to its position north of Dongting Lake. The provincial capital is Wuhan, a major transportation thoroughfare and the political, cultural, and economic hub of Central China.
Hubei is officially abbreviated to "鄂" (È), an ancient name associated with the eastern part of the province since the Qin dynasty, while a popular name for Hubei is "楚" (Chǔ), after the powerful State of Chu that existed here during the Eastern Zhou dynasty. It borders Henan to the north, Anhui to the east, Jiangxi to the southeast, Hunan to the south, Chongqing to the west, and Shaanxi to the northwest. The high-profile Three Gorges Dam is located at Yichang, in the west of the province.
The Hubei region was home to sophisticated Neolithic cultures. By the Spring and Autumn Period (770–476 BC), the territory of today's Hubei was part of the powerful State of Chu. Chu was nominally a tributary state of the Zhou dynasty, and it was itself an extension of the Chinese civilization that had emerged some centuries before in the north; but it was also a culturally unique blend of northern and southern culture, and was a powerful state that held onto much of the middle and lower Yangtze River, with power extending northwards into the North China Plain.
China, officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), is a sovereign state in East Asia. It is the world's most populous country, with a population of over 1.35 billion. The PRC is a one-party state governed by the Communist Party, with its seat of government in the capital city of Beijing. It exercises jurisdiction over 22 provinces; five autonomous regions; four direct-controlled municipalities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing); two mostly self-governing special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau); and claims sovereignty over Taiwan.
Covering approximately 9.6 million square kilometers, China is the world's second-largest country by land area, and either the third or fourth-largest by total area, depending on the method of measurement. China's landscape is vast and diverse, ranging from forest steppes and the Gobi and Taklamakan deserts in the arid north to subtropical forests in the wetter south. The Himalaya, Karakoram, Pamir and Tian Shan mountain ranges separate China from South and Central Asia. The Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, the third- and sixth-longest in the world, run from the Tibetan Plateau to the densely populated eastern seaboard. China's coastline along the Pacific Ocean is 14,500 kilometres (9,000 mi) long, and is bounded by the Bohai, Yellow, East and South China Seas.
Wuhan is the capital of Hubei province,China, and is the most populous city in Central China. It lies in the eastern Jianghan Plain at the intersection of the middle reaches of the Yangtze and Han rivers. Arising out of the conglomeration of three cities, Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang, Wuhan is known as "Jiusheng Tongqu (the nine provinces' leading thoroughfare)"; it is a major transportation hub, with dozens of railways, roads and expressways passing through the city and connecting to major cities in Mainland China. Because of its key role in domestic transportation, Wuhan was sometimes referred to as the "Chicago of China."
Holding sub-provincial status, Wuhan is recognized as the political, economic, financial, cultural, educational and transportation center of central China. The city of Wuhan, first termed as such in 1927, has a population of 10,220,000 people (as of 2013). In the 1920s, Wuhan was the national capital of a leftist Kuomintang (KMT) government led by Wang Jingwei in opposition to Chiang Kai-shek, as well as wartime capital in 1937. At the 2010 census, its built-up (or metro) area made of 8 out of 10 urban districts (all but Xinzhou and Hannan not yet conurbated) was home to 8,821,658 inhabitants.
Big World is a 1986 live album of original songs by Joe Jackson. The album was recorded in front of an invited audience at the Roundabout Theatre in New York City on 22–25 January 1986. The songs are loosely linked by lyrics covering a general theme of post-World-War-2 international relations and global travel.
Jackson's intent for the recording was to capture the intensity and spontaneity of a live performance, but without the distraction of noise from the crowd. He requested that the audience remain silent while his performance was recorded, so no applause is heard. In the manner of a remote broadcast, the music was mixed live from microphones on each musical instrument, and sent directly to a stereo digital tape recorder. Unlike most remote recordings, no post-recording mixing or overdubbing was performed. The individual tracks were selected from performances on various nights.
Regarding the production, Joe says: ‘I want to clear up two myths about this record which still crop up all the time. Myth 1: During the live recording of the album, the audience was forbidden to applaud. Fact: There was plenty of applause. We were just playing a lot of unfamiliar material, and recording it for an album, so the audience were asked to hold it until they were sure a song was finished. They understood this and there was no problem. Myth 2: It’s a double album with a side missing. Fact: This was my first album to be released on CD, where the running time was not an issue. I was having a hard time deciding what to leave out for the LP, though, and I suggested making a 3-sided one, and selling it for the price of a regular album. Much to my surprise, the record company said yes. So rather than a side missing, you got an extra side. Critics, of course, hadn’t had to pay for it.’
The Grand Canyon (Hopi: Ongtupqa; Yavapai: Wi:kaʼi:la, Spanish: Gran Cañón) is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in the state of Arizona in the United States. It is contained within and managed by Grand Canyon National Park, the Kaibab National Forest, Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, the Hualapai Tribal Nation, the Havasupai people and the Navajo Nation. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of preservation of the Grand Canyon area, and visited it on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery.
The Grand Canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, up to 18 miles (29 km) wide and attains a depth of over a mile (6,093 feet or 1,857 meters). Nearly two billion years of Earth's geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. While some aspects about the history of incision of the canyon are debated by geologists, several recent studies support the hypothesis that the Colorado River established its course through the area about 5 or 6 million years ago. Since that time, the Colorado River has driven the down-cutting of the tributaries and retreat of the cliffs, simultaneously deepening and widening the canyon.
Walking along the cliffs of the beautiful Enshi Grand Canyon in Hubei, China! Possibly my favorite place in China followed by the Li River and the Summer Palace.

A 688-meter-long sightseeing escalator made its debut during the past week-long National Day holiday, contributing to tourists' visits at Enshi Grand Canyon in Enshi city, Central China's Hubei province. "The escalator is the world's longest sightseeing one, costing each visitor 20 yuan ($2.98)", said an insider, who went on saying that visitors can enjoy the beautiful sights by taking less time and effort thanks to the escalator. Using a steel concrete structure and a wooden structure, the escalator was built along the mountain in a "∑" shape at Qixingzhai scenic spot, a must-see at Enshi Grand Canyon. "The whole engineering plan focused on ecological protection, which can be seen from the wooden structure and grey tile at the top of the escalator", said Xiong Yan, who is in charge of ...
A city is like a living element that transforms organically by the forces of human ambitions or the limits imposed by nature. Shenzhen is a vibrant, fast paced, rhythmic urban area, where different cultures from all over the wide region coexist. Inside its boundary Hubei urban village represents the most ancient history of Shenzhen. It’s a link to the past of the city. Many people I’ve been talking with in the past months told me Hubei is a treasure and a pride of the people of Shenzhen. And I fully agree with them. Short-documentary presented at the International Urban Images, Shenzhen - China

Travel video about destination Chengde in China. The Qing emperors knew exactly where to shelter during Peking's hot summer months, in the Valley of Coolness, a beautiful forested river valley 250 kilometres northeast of Peking. In former Rehe Province, today's Chengde, is the old summer residence of the Manchu Dynasty that took more than a century to construct. The Forbidden Palace and its park and gardens are now open to the public. Just as in Peking, the emperor went about his official business in the southern front hall with the royal living quarters situated in the rear section of the complex. The huge garden, with its many ponds and bridges is encircled by a 10 kilometre wall beyond which are several large valleys. The garden covers 560 hectares and is the largest Imperial park comp...

Peking opera or Beijing opera (Jingju) is a form of traditional Chinese theatre which combines music, vocal performance, mime, dance and acrobatics. With a history of over 200 years, it arose in the late 18thcentury and became fully developed and recognized by the mid-19thcentury. Originally, it was a form of local theatre, but now it has become the National Opera of China. Before Peking Opera, Kunqu Opera was a very popular opera in Beijing, especially in the Imperial Palace and among the upper class in Beijing. About 200years ago, Qing Emperor Qianlong toured to the south of China and developed an interest in the local operas. On his 80thbirthday, he had different local opera troupes come to Beijing to perform for him. After the birthday celebration, four famous troupes from Anhui Provin...

Don't cry baby
It's no big deal
It's not like it really matters
How I feel
I knew that you would break my heart
I knew it right from the start
But I wouldn't listen to a thing
CHORUS
How could I have been a fool
To put my trust in you
And how did I get here
Drowning in your tears
When you were nowhere near
I can't get mad at you
Over what you put me through
It's what stupid people do
Don't say maybe
'Cause that won't do
Here to take on tomorrow
It's nothing new
I heard you went around the block
Making all your frequent stops
But I wouldn't listen to a thing
CHORUS
It's what stupid do
Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh
Stupid people do
Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh
Yeah Yeah Yeah
I don't need your sympathy
So get used to never seeing me ...dork
Don't' cry baby, it's no big deal
CHORUS
Stupid people do
I don't need your sympathy
