It's not every day you get to witness the birth of a baby via c-section, and it's even less likely the baby in the video will be breech.

Footage of a breech c-section birth has been shared by Venezuelan Obstetrician Dr Jham Frank Lugo on his Instagram page, and it's incredibly beautiful.

Shared in black and white, the viewer is spared the more challenging aspects of viewing a c-section video and is drawn in to the gentle arrival of a newborn baby boy.

The caption has been translated from Spanish by Doula Science and Soul.

"One of the most common reasons to perform a c-section is the 'podalica position' (sitting or breech) which is when the baby is placed with the foot down. It is a position which, no doubt, poses serious problems for vaginal birth, but, however makes it impossible for the baby," writes Dr Lugo.

With the health and comfort of the baby and mother the first priorities, Dr Lugo tenderly guides the boy out of the incision bottom first, pausing to give time for the baby to adjust to each movement.

"We can see in this video a birth, respectful and careful with obstetric manoeuvers, and with a vigilance that ensures the safety of the baby and the mother."

"With patience, listening to the music that the parents choose for this moment, and with the support of the father and their doula, the mother can be held throughout the whole process. After birth the baby can immediately be with his mother. Delayed cord clamping. Early attachment; in union doctor and patient can achieve a birth that is respectful."

The joyful arrival of this baby boy is something to behold, and we can't help being reminded of how dangerous such a birth would have been in past eras.

You can also watch a second video of the baby meeting his parents as the placenta is delivered. Get the tissues; you'll cry happy tears.
