Tasik Kenyir or Kenyir Lake is an artificial lake located in the state of Terengganu in northeast Malaysia created in 1985 by the damming of the Kenyir River. The lake provides water to the Sultan Mahmud Power Station. It is the largest man-made lake in South East Asia.
The lake borders Kelantan in the west and Pahang in the south. This immense lake also serves as another gateway to Taman Negara. The lake has a surface area of 260 km² and contains 340 small islands, which were previously hilltops prior to the creation of the lake, more than 14 waterfalls and numerous rivers and rapids. Because the lake is a reservoir, the water level can vary depending on the month. The water level is highest (and the lake consequently the most beautiful) in March and April.
Kenyir Lake is also home to numerous species of freshwater fishes and exotic wildlife. With a water catchment area of 38,000 hectares, the lake is naturally a haven for freshwater fish. A recent study revealed that there are some 300 species of freshwater fish dwelling in the lake. The presence of dead trees around the lake serves as a perfect breeding ground for these fishes. Algae growing on dead trees and branches serve as the main form of sustenance for the fishes. From studies and observations conducted by the Department of Fisheries, species such as the big Lampam Sungai (barboides), Kelah (Malayan mahseer or Tor tambroides), Toman (snakehead), Kawan (Friendly Barb), Kalui (Giant Gouramy) and Kelisa (green arowana) are found in waters and around dead trees.
A lake is an area of variable size filled with water, localized in a basin, that is surrounded by land, apart from any river or other outlet that serves to feed or drain the lake. Lakes lie on land and are not part of the ocean (except for sea lochs in Scotland and Ireland), and therefore are distinct from lagoons, and are also larger and deeper than ponds, though there are no official or scientific definitions. Lakes can be contrasted with rivers or streams, which are usually flowing. However most lakes are fed and drained by rivers and streams.
Natural lakes are generally found in mountainous areas, rift zones, and areas with ongoing glaciation. Other lakes are found in endorheic basins or along the courses of mature rivers. In some parts of the world there are many lakes because of chaotic drainage patterns left over from the last Ice Age. All lakes are temporary over geologic time scales, as they will slowly fill in with sediments or spill out of the basin containing them.
Many lakes are artificial and are constructed for industrial or agricultural use, for hydro-electric power generation or domestic water supply, or for aesthetic or recreational purposes.
Taman Negara was established at the Titiwangsa Mountains, Malaysia, in 1938/1939 as the King George V National Park. It was renamed to Taman Negara after independence, which literally means "national park" in Malay. Taman Negara has a total area of 4,343 km2 and has a reputation as the world's oldest tropical rainforest, estimated to be more than 130 million years old. Despite the reputation, the title of "oldest tropical rainforest" more accurately belongs to the Daintree Rainforest in Queensland, Australia, estimated to be between 135 million years old and 180 million years old.
Taman Negara encompasses three states, Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu, each with its own legislation. The Taman Negara Enactment (Pahang) No. 2 of 1939 is enforced in the state of Pahang, the Taman Negara Enactment (Kelantan) No. 14 of 1938 in the state of Kelantan and the Taman Negara Enactment (Terengganu) No. 6 of 1939 in the state of Terengganu. The enactments have similar contents.
Taman Negara Pahang is the largest at 2,477 km2, followed by Taman Negara Kelantan at 1,043 km2 and Taman Negara Terengganu at 853 km2.
A national park is a park in use for conservation purposes. Often it is a reserve of natural, semi-natural, or developed land that a sovereign state declares or owns. Although individual nations designate their own national parks differently, there is a common idea: the conservation of 'wild nature' for posterity and as a symbol of national pride. An international organization, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and its World Commission on Protected Areas, has defined "National Park" as its Category II type of protected areas.
While this type of national park had been proposed previously, the United States established the first "public park or pleasuring-ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people", Yellowstone National Park, in 1872. Although Yellowstone was not officially termed a "national park" in its establishing law, it was always termed such in practice and is widely held to be the first and oldest national park in the world. The first area to use "national park" in its creation legislation was the US's Mackinac Island, in 1875. Australia's Royal National Park, established in 1879, was the world's third official national park. In 1895 ownership of Mackinac Island was transferred to the State of Michigan as a state park and national park status was consequently lost. As a result, Australia's Royal National Park is by some considerations the second oldest national park now in existence.

Not sure if people is curious but here's what it's like inside Tasik Kenyir or Kenyir Lake. Even at the clearest day, the visibility inside Kenyir is quite bad. At this High Altitude dive, at the bottom of the lake, trees still aplenty with some of the area near construction sites with thick layers of silt.
In this travel video travel guide to Malaysia, I travel to Malaysia's capital city, Kuala Lumpur, and to Terangganu, the country's second-largest city. I start off my trip by exploring Kenyir Lake, located just west of Terangganu, which is actually the largest man-made lake in Southeast Asia (it's the size of Singapore). I head to the far end of the lake by speedboat to go trekking into the hilly jungle where I come across a school of hungry fish waiting for eager tourists like myself to provide them with a cheap snack. I then head back on the lake to explore the many islands that call this lake home. Next, I head back onto the water -- this time onto the ocean -- to do a little squid jigging as part of the first annual Terengganu International Squid Jigging Fest. Squid jigging, for thos...

Meer op http://www.veelzijdigmaleisie.nl The lake view room we had at Lake Kenyir Resort was fantastic. It was big, it had a small 'living room' with a couch, desk and tv. The bed was perfect. The bathroom was really big. All was maintained well. Perhaps the most beautiful aspect of the room was the amazing view over the lake; especially in the early morning (though we didn't have direct view over sunrise). We did have fantastic views over the lake during sunset.
Kenyir Trip with the gals. Strolling at the treks, playing with fishes and swimming!
Exclusive HD video interview with Mr. Ang Ching Yang, CEO of the Kenyir Elephant Conservation Park in Terengganu, Malaysia. In this interview, filmed on 5 June 2015 at the Elephant Park itself, we ask the Mr. Ang Ching Yang about the first year of operations, how many visitors it attracted and what percentage were from Malaysia. We also ask where the elephants come from, how many they have, what expansion plans they have and how they respond to critics of similar elephant camps elsewhere that are accused of being more about profit than conservation. We also ask why they started an Elephant Show when that had not been expected in March 2014, and whether they have a voluntourism programme in place already. All that and much, much more. http://www.asiatraveltips.com

Fishing in Malaysia” is extraordinarily diverse and incredibly unusual. In a voyage of discovery throughout the Malay Peninsula we first encounter Kelantan fishermen who use palm tree branches to lure fish. Further south we join Penarik trawlers as they work at night using floating lights to attract their catch. In the wetlands of Tasik Bera, Semalai aborigines maintain their traditions catching jungle perches and catfish with spears and bamboo traps. In Pahang, fishermen use buffalos to transport freshly caught anchovies from the beach to the processing unit. But fishing in Malaysia is not just a job it is also the country’s most popular hobby. Deep in the jungles of Kenyir Lake (one of the largest in South East Asia) anglers try to catch large and fierce species such as snakeheads and m...
