Fiji's Marriott Resort Momi Bay opens

Fiji has been slow on the uptake of over-the-water accommodation, the dreamy, ocean-lapped options that pepper the south Pacific and which are so popular with honeymooners.

Marriott has risen to fill the void, opening the sparkling new Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay. The resort is the main island Vitu Levu's first with over-the-water accommodation and only the second of its kind for the Pacific holiday destination. (The other is Likuliku Lagoon Fiji. A third, Koro Sun Resort and Rainforest Spa has floating bures.)

What further distinguishes the new sophisticated property, is its man-made lagoon, a first for Fiji, and a set-up that creates incredible views from virtually everywhere. The resort has 22 over-water bure villas among its 250 rooms, all decorated in a contemporary style incorporating natural materials and strong Fijian motifs.

Momi Bay is on the western coast of Viti Levu, a 45-minute drive from Nadi International Airport.

It's also offering various dining and culinary experiences, three large swimming pools and private beach access.

MyFiji has a launch special giving seven nights in a deluxe lagoon front room or a duplex lagoon front bure, Fiji Airways flights, breakfast daily, return transfers. a $FJ1000 wine, dine & spa credit, massages, golf and more.

Valued at $3365 a person, it costs from $1990 a person. Valid for travel select periods April 20-December 16. Book before April 28. See myfiji.com; Marriott.com.au
