VIDEO: Pink Mountaintops - While We Were Dreaming

I wonder how many birds are nesting in Stephen McBean's beard?

The Golden Dawn - Power Plant

A reunited Golden Dawn will be closing out the Beauty Ballroom side of Austin Psych Fest Sunday night by performing their 1968 album, Power Plant. Speaking of, hopefully I'll be able to track down some "power plant" while I'm there. If you aren't able to make it to Austin, you can live vicariously through Steve and I via Twitter as we drunkenly live-tweet our shenanigans. Although, if I do successfully track down some "power plant", you can probably disregard that last sentence.

Mind Spiders - Meltdown

Austin Psych Fest approacheth, and Mind Spiders are one of the many acts that'll be blowing my tits off this weekend. Incredibly catchy punk/garage/pop with some of the most infectious hooks I've heard in a while. If you haven't already been blasting this one for the last two months, here's your chance.

Gusman - s/t

A psychedelic rock conceptual album conceived by two amigos out of Aguacalientes, Mexico. Gusman tells the story of two friends separated at the age of ten, and reunited after many years in London when Gustav (Gus man) is invited over for a nice meal. Would their friendship be the way they once remembered? Or would a silent and unappreciative Gus get stabbed in the fucking left eye? You'll have to listen to find out. Gusman is a one time recording project for this album only, but I certainly hope we'll be hearing more from these two dudes in the near future. This one was originally submitted to our facebook page, which has been a great source of new tunes recently. Join, listen, share.

Hollow Stars - Neshama EP

Hollow Stars is the former side project (now full-time gig) of ex-Deerhunter guitarist Colin Mee. Mee left Deerhunter back in 2007 shortly after the band's breakthrough album Cryptograms was released. While I'm sure he doesn't want to be "that guy that used to be in Deerhunter" it's still worth mentioning because this record sounds nothing at all like his former band. Instead, Mee and co. have crafted a Middle Eastern influenced indie/space rock mash-up of sorts that does a good job of defying easy categorization. This EP is a nice snapshot of what Hollow Stars are capable of and I'm looking forward to future releases.
