Car Seat Headrest - 5

Solo lo-fi bedroom indie pop out of Williamsburg, VA. Personal but very accessible, with some vocal hooks and lyrical quirks I haven't been able to shake off over the last few days. This one could even get an honorable mention at the end of the year. This kid's already 5 albums deep, all of which are free via his bandcamp.

Para Siempre - Stranded

New 4 track EP from the San Ramos one-man show. A little less garage and a lot more shoegaze on this one. If you missed Hysteria from earlier this year, make sure to check it out.

The Men - Live at WFMU

The Men represent everything good about rock n' roll. They make no apologies and pull no punches. This live set recorded back in August is a fantastic snapshot of what makes them so great. I'm laying on the floor with a fucked up back loaded up on painkillers and blogging for the first time in months just to send this your way, so download this shit ASAP and thank me later.

Panda Kid - Scary Monster Juice

One-man experimental lofi beach punk with a little folk thrown in from Italy. Prepare to eat this shit up. Noisy and broken at times, but varied and consistant. I dare you to find a favorite track. Edition of 100 courtesy of Already Dead Tapes.

Apache Dropout - s/t LP + Shot Down b/w Sister Burnout 7"

The A-side of this one has been available for free on their bandcamp since earlier this year, but I just now got around to listening to this LP in its entirety. Acidic 60/70s psychedelic garage throwback greatness out of Bloomington, Indiana. West Coast fuzz meets a heavy 13th Floor Elevators influence. A strong contender for our end of the year list. Only 13 bones over at Family Vineyard Records. They also released a 7"a few months ago that requires your attention. Order it @ Trouble In Mind.

Dead Skeletons - Dead Magick

This much anticipated double LP is finally just over the horizon. Digital format came out in May, but if you aren't familiar with the band, it's time to get excited. Icelandic four piece (2 of which are current Brian Jonestown Massacre collaborators) that creates/conceives/births a fully-realized auditory experience. An altered state of consciousness. The vocals haunt, the rhythms churn. An absolutely essential purchase when the vinyl drops on 11/11/11. Pre-order it through Cargo Records.

Zorch - Cosmic Gloss / E.M.F.

Not sure why I didn't post this when we got the original submission in early August, but I was pleased to get a friendly reminder email a few days ago. Sometimes I need some prodding. Zorch is an Austin experimental noise duo that creates ethereal brain candy that has already grabbed the attention of Altered Zones, NPR, and Paste. There are moments in each of these 2 tracks that will bring to mind Battles, Animal Collective, and modern Boredoms. "E.M.F." is pretty killer around the 2 minute mark. The sold-out cassette was limited to 100 copies. Check out their awesomely mind-numbing video for their 2009 demo track below.

Waylon Thornton and the Heavy Hands - Berger Picard

Waylon and his weighty mitts are back and more blown out than ever. A manic surf explosion that'll have you doing the heavy hand jive.

Peopling - s/t EP

Experimental noise jams from Brooklyn. An epic battle of noisy man vs. noise machines. Definitely sounds like it could have been a product of Fort Thunder or Load Records. Really dig "Middle Vanessa Yeast". Keep an eye on bandcamp for future releases. Shoot an email to thepeopling@gmail.com if you're interested in a CD.
