The Magic: The Gathering Banned and Restriction list notes all the cards removed or limited in competitive play. It has been around since the first tournament of MTG and continues to define the competitive scene to this day. Many cards have found themselves banned, restricted, and later removed throughout the history of MTG.. and this series examines that history.
In this video, Nizzahon examines some of the first cards ever to be banned and restricted in competitive Magic: The Gathering. With the release of Legends, a lot of new faced the all mighty ban hammer with some cards like Chaos Orb and Falling Star having weird effects that we don't see anymore. Strange cards that change the game get banned all the time, but Legends also saw pure power banned as well with Maze of Ith finally getting some recognition. The introduction of new Legends and the Legend rule lead to this new creature type being restricted for purely flavor reasons. As there were no text to describe the Legend rule, it was easier just to restrict them all.

Magic: The Gathering
Magic: The Gathering (MTG; also known as Magic) is a trading card game created by Richard Garfield.
First published in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast, Magic was the first trading card game produced and it continues to thrive, with approximately twenty million players as of 2015.Magic can be played by two or more players in various formats, the most common of which uses a deck of 60+ cards, either in person with printed cards or using a deck of virtual cards through the Internet-based Magic: The Gathering Online, on a smartphone or tablet, or other programs.
Each game represents a battle between wizards known as "planeswalkers", who employ spells, artifacts, and creatures depicted on individual Magic cards to defeat their opponents. Although the original concept of the game drew heavily from the motifs of traditional fantasy role-playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons, the gameplay of Magic bears little similarity to pencil-and-paper adventure games, while having substantially more cards and more complex rules than many other card games.

The Magic: The Gathering Banned and Restriction list notes all the cards removed or limited in competitive play. It has been around since the first tournament of MTG and continues to define the competitive scene to this day. Many cards have found themselves banned, restricted, and later removed throughout the history of MTG.. and this series examines that history.
In this video, Nizzahon examines some of the first cards ever to be banned and restricted in competitive Magic: The Gathering. With the release of Legends, a lot of new faced the all mighty ban hammer with some cards like Chaos Orb and Falling Star having weird effects that we don't see anymore. Strange cards that change the game get banned all the time, but Legends also saw pure power banned as well with Maze of Ith finally getting some recognition. The introduction of new Legends and the Legend rule lead to this new creature type being restricted for purely flavor reasons. As there were no text to describe the Legend rule, it was easier just to restrict them all.
