She's used to attending the Emmys, SAGs and BAFTAs, but not even pneumonia could keep Australian native Yael Stone away from the Logies on Sunday night.

The Orange is the New Black star, 32, best known for portraying Litchfield Penitentiary inmate Lorna Muccio (nee Morello), pulled herself out of her sick bed to attend Australian television's night of nights where she was nominated in the most outstanding actress category for her role in SBS drama, Deep Water.

Logies 2017: Red carpet looks

Reds shine on the red carpet as stars of television put their best feet forward at the 59th Logie awards.

"I have pneumonia and I'm on antibiotics, so I'm not going to any after-parties," she told Fairfax Media on the red carpet.

She added: "I was in hospital [on Saturday], but I've rallied through and I'm here now. I am very glad.

"I have to be at work at 8am, so I'm just really going to try and make this work tonight."

When asked how serious her condition is, she said: "It's as serious as pneumonia but it's not bad pneumonia. It's just down here [pointing to her lower rib cage]."

For the red carpet, Stone opted for a cream mini-dress with daisy and frill detailing by "beautiful Sydney sisters", Macgraw, matched with Jimmy Choo heels.

"[Beth and Tessa MacGraw] are pretty insane. Their designs are about to explode all over the world. They are so creative and whimsical. I love it," she said.

The star said she was most looking forward to mingling with Newton's Law's Claudia Karvan, singer Jessica Mauboy and Wentworth's Hunter Page.

"I'm thrilled to be here and get a chance to meet everyone," she added.

The Sydney-born actor, who has returned to Australia to work on Foxtel series Picnic at Hanging Rock, is gearing up for the fifth season of the Netflix prison dramedy, which starts on June 9.

"I am so excited for it. I have not seen any of it yet," she said.

Season four ended with the death of a high-profile character and a prison riot, but not much else is known about the fifth season.

Netflix prefers to keep things under wraps, and Stone wouldn't give away any spoilers.

"What can I say? I can tell you that the whole season takes place over three days. It's a very intense look at what is going on. High drama, high tension as usual. We are going to laugh and we are going to cry," she said.
