Following her high-profile engagement and subsequent not-so-amicable split with Good Charlotte's Benji Madden, you might think that Sophie Monk would want to stay well clear of rock stars on The Bachelorette.

But when asked by Fairfax Media at her The Bachelorette role unveiling on Sunday's Logies red carpet if rockers need apply for the show, the 36-year-old said they could on one condition.

Sophie Monk confirmed for The Bachelorette

The former Bardot singer confirms she will star in the next season of Channel Ten's reality dating show.

"They can if they are awesome," she laughed, giving a not-so-subtle dig at Madden.

Monk, an actor and formerly of girl band Bardot, and Madden, a guitarist alongside his identical twin brother Joel in American pop-rock band Good Charlotte, started dating in 2006. They got engaged in 2007 but broke up in 2008. He is now married to actor Cameron Diaz.

During her fleeting days as a presenter on 2Day FM, Monk recounted an awkward run-in she had with Madden at a restaurant a few years after their split.

"I walked over and said, 'Hi, how are you?' and my body just threw over him and my arms hugged him," she said.

But her gesture was not reciprocated. "No arms back, no hug, he just stood there like, 'What are you doing?'" she said.

Monk continued to Fairfax Media: "But I'm not looking for any job type. I'm looking for someone loving, caring and funny and [who has] good self-esteem. A bit up himself, you know?"

Following her split with Madden, Monk became engaged to French millionaire businessman, Jimmy Esebag, nearly 20 years her senior, after three months of dating in 2011. They split six weeks later.

When asked if rich and successful was still high on her desired list of traits, she laughed: "Not really, but I'd like them to be able to buy me dinner one day."

It was Monk's mother Sandi who encouraged her daughter to star on The Bachelorette, a role previously undertaken by Sam Frost and Georgia Love.

"My mum said to me, 'You're not going to meet anyone in your industry, you may as well go on The Bachelorette,' and I was like, 'No,' and then I thought, 'Ya, actually that makes perfect sense'. Then I met with [the producers] and it all happened really quickly. It all got pretty much locked in [Sunday].

"I'm nervous but at the same time you got to just be like, 'It's life and I'll go on the journey and hopefully meet someone awesome'."
