The Czech Republic (i/ˈtʃɛk rᵻˈpʌblɪk/ CHEK-rə-PUB-lik;Czech: Česká republika [ˈt͡ʃɛskaː ˈrɛpuˌblɪka]) is a landlocked country in Central Europe bordered by Germany to the west, Austria to the south, Slovakia to the southeast and Poland to the northeast. The capital and largest city, Prague, has over 1.2 million residents. The Czech Republic includes the historical territories of Bohemia,Moravia, and Czech Silesia.
The Czech state was formed in the late 9th century as the Duchy of Bohemia under the Great Moravian Empire. After the fall of the Empire in 907, the centre of power transferred from Moravia to Bohemia under the Přemyslids. In 1004, the duchy was formally recognized as part of the Holy Roman Empire, becoming the Kingdom of Bohemia in 1212, and reaching its greatest territorial extent in the 14th century. The King of Bohemia ruled not only Bohemia itself, but also other lands, which together formed the so-called Crown of Bohemia, and he had a vote in the election of the Holy Roman Emperor. In the Hussite wars of the 15th century driven by the Bohemian Reformation, the kingdom faced economic embargoes and defeated five crusades proclaimed by the leaders of the Roman Catholic Church and organized mainly by the emperor and princes of the Holy Roman Empire.

The capital of the Czech Republic is also called ‘the golden city’, the ‘mother of cities’, but its most fitting name is the ‘city of 100 spires’. In the old town there are the towers of the City Hall, the Tyn temple and the Magazine. The puppet play of its famous Astronomical clock is marvelled at by thousands every hour. The Jewish district is famous of its old cemetery and the Synagogue. The Charles Bridge with its 30 statues lead to the other side of the Vltava. The other part has plenty of very good restaurants. The green dome of the Saint Nicholas Church can be seen above the citizens houses. The Prague Castle is one of Europe’s most beautiful castle districts with gothic, renessaince and baroque palaces, with a royal palace, parks, temples. Whoever visits Prague, won’t forget the We...

Prague, capital city of the Czech Republic, is bisected by the Vltava River. Nicknamed “the City of a Hundred Spires,” it's known for its Old Town Square, the heart of its historic core, with colorful baroque buildings, Gothic churches and the medieval Astronomical Clock, which gives an animated hourly show.

In the early 20th century the city had only 3,000 inhabitants, but suffered a total transformation thanks to intervention of the industry businessman Tomas Bata. Bata did not limit himself to only set up his factories in Zlin, but he also created the whole city according to the needs of his industry. To do this, he designed all city buildings: factories, homes, leisure centres, offices, public buildings... all with the same red bricks, and under the same functi...
Travel video about destination Olomouc in Czech Republic. The city of Olomouc is located on the Czech Republic’s Hanna Plain on the March River and was one of the centres of the realm of Great Moravia and is one of the oldest seats of the Přemyslids. Today, modern fountains distract at historic Horni Náměsti, or Upper Ring where, in 1306, Václav The Third was murdered. In 1469, a Hungarian, Matthias Corvinius, was proclaimed King Of Bohemia and the Hussite armies were forced to withdraw. The Hauenschild Palace is a sixteenth century Renaissance building with a richly decorated portal and bay windows, as well having a musical history. In 1767 the eleven year old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived there and composed a symphony. Even today mighty Baroque buildings shape the old town. The House Of...
https://www.expedia.com/Prague.d180014.Destination-Travel-Guides Step into a child’s storybook when you first arrive in Prague, a city in the Czech Republic where sleek, modern buildings share space with ancient gothic architecture. Wander down the twisting cobblestone streets – you’re sure to find something new and exciting. After all, even locals get lost here. Prague tourism usually involves the Royal Route, a historic coronation path that will take you through Old Town. Walk a few blocks to Old Town Square and sample local street fare in the shadow of old castles and palaces. Old Town itself is full of cafes, restaurants, and galleries, and will provide days of exploration for intrepid visitors. Cross over the Charles Bridge and climb up to Prague Castle, a network of palaces, churc...
The Central European city of Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic and is one of the world's great architectural jewels. Like a city from a children's story book the city conjures up images of romantic fairy stories and dark gothic folk tales. The city is a cobblestone labyrinth where even locals get happily lost. An easy way to discover Prague is to follow the Royal Route, which starts at the Powder Tower and ends at Prague Castle. Along the way, stop at Old Town Square, a plaza surrounded by former palaces. Highlights here include the Astronomical Clock and Tyn Church. Explore the Old Town to discover sidewalk cafes, galleries and the ancient Jewish Quarter. Pass beneath the Bridge Tower, cross the beautiful Charles Bridge, then climb the hill to Prague Castle. Rising above the...
A travel guide St Petersburg. This video won the Best Comedy Award in the American Motion Picture Society festival 2008. This video was awarded a Silver Diploma in The Cotswold Festival 2008 in the UK. It has also one of the nominated films in the International festival of Outdoor Films held in the Czech Republic To the English, Russia is a place of mystery, danger and secrecy and defiantly not a holiday destination. So when a chance to visit St Petersburg came my way, I signed up without a moment’s hesitation. This guide explores an Englishman’s preconceived ideas about Russia and Russian culture. I think I learnt a lot on my visit, and although I only know a few words in Russian they certainly came in handy more than once. During my visit in October 2006 I took a lot of photos ...
3x3 52 486 is an experimental short film made by Attila Lorant. The film was made with stop motion technique, photographed frame by frame. Approximately 7500 photos from 8 countries (Czech Republic, Egypt, Congo, Hungary, Sweden, Turkey, United States of America and Spain) were used in this production. This experimental film constitutes a part of a new project - called 3x3 52 486 - of a versatile artist (photographer, writer, director, designer) Attila Lorant. The gist of the project is a 148 pages long photo album, along which an other film was also produced - a 5 minutes long "How to make" documentary. From this project, an exhibition and an iPad application are also coming out soon. “3x3 is a mosaic, a diary, an encyclopaedia. It is a personal project, a self-confession. It’s a medit...
This is a summary of 30 min travel show of E! Latin America hosted by Patricia Zavala. I directed the show with the idea in mind to do a fashion film, and Patricia and the Czech Republic were the perfect inspiration: both are stylish and beautiful to photograph. The frame and the light of every shoot were very important and we (10 people team) did it the entire job in three days. CREDITS Client | The Czech Republic and E!
