Nyon, a town with a population of almost 20,000, lies on the shore of Lake Geneva, about 25km (15 miles) from the city of the same name. Geneva is sometimes said by careless sports journalists to be the home of UEFA – in fact the headquarters of European football’s governing body are here in Nyon.
My short film takes a look at the town, with its castle and surviving Roman columns, as well as the more modern, clean and tidy streets and public park. You can see how popular the lakefront is, where people come to sunbathe or just enjoy the fresh air and long views. As the film shows, water transport is significant in these lakeside Swiss towns, and paddle steamers and smaller passenger craft are useful to tourists and locals alike. UEFA’s modern building is not welcoming, but I have done my best to film it from the outside at least.

Nyon
Nyon is a municipality in the district of Nyon in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. It is located some 25 kilometers north east of Geneva's city centre, and since the 1970s it has become part of the Geneva metropolitan area. It lies on the shores of Lake Leman and is the seat of the district of Nyon. The town has (as of December 2014) a population of 19,738. It is connected to the rest of Switzerland by way of the Route Suisse, the A1 Motorway and the railways of the Arc Lémanique.
Name
Nyon derives from one of the names used by the Romans for the town, Noviodunum or Noiodunum. Other names for the town, particularly of colonies placed there, are Colonia Iulia Equestris or Colonia Julia Equestris, Colonia Equestris Noiodunum, Equestris, Civitas Equestrium, and Civitas Equestrium Noiodunum.
History
Nyon is first mentioned around 367-407 as civitas Equestrium id est Noiodunus (in the "Notitia Galliarum"). In 1236 it was mentioned as Neveduni and in 1292 as Nyons.
Pre-Roman settlements
A few, scattered neolithic items were discovered in the 19th Century. North of the city some bronze rings and the ruins of a Bronze Age settlement were discovered.

As the film shows, water transport is significant in these lakeside Swiss towns, and paddle steamers and smaller passenger craft are useful to tourists and locals alike. UEFA’s modern building is not welcoming, but I have done my best to film it from the outside at least.

Nyon, a town with a population of almost 20,000, lies on the shore of Lake Geneva, about 25km (15 miles) from the city of the same name. Geneva is sometimes said by careless sports journalists to be the home of UEFA – in fact the headquarters of European football’s governing body are here in Nyon.
My short film takes a look at the town, with its castle and surviving Roman columns, as well as the more modern, clean and tidy streets and public park. You can see how popular the lakefront is, where people come to sunbathe or just enjoy the fresh air and long views. As the film shows, water transport is significant in these lakeside Swiss towns, and paddle steamers and smaller passenger craft are useful to tourists and locals alike. UEFA’s modern building is not welcoming, but I have done my best to film it from the outside at least.

13th World University Triathlon Championship - Nyon - Switzerland
The video was made by "Léman bleu TV" NYON - The sun was shining on Sunday, making it a beautiful day for this World Championship. The women opened the competition in the morning, with a very agitated lake. This challenging swim stage unfortunately resulted in a few athletes abandoning the race. The rest of the race however went very well, particularly for the three medalists; Yuko Takahashi from Japan for gold, Vanesa De La Torre from Mexico for silver, and Sandra Dodet from France for bronze. The men raced in the afternoon with a friendlier lake condition, but an even hotter sun, making the final run challenging. Only in the end was the winner evidently Grant Sheldon from the United Kingdom, who arrived way ahead. He was then followed by Jonas Schomburg from Turkey for silver and Léo B...

The video was made by "Léman bleu TV"
NYON - The sun was shining on Sunday, making it a beautiful day for this World Championship. The women opened the competition in the morning, with a very agitated lake. This challenging swim stage unfortunately resulted in a few athletes abandoning the race. The rest of the race however went very well, particularly for the three medalists; Yuko Takahashi from Japan for gold, Vanesa De La Torre from Mexico for silver, and Sandra Dodet from France for bronze.
The men raced in the afternoon with a friendlier lake condition, but an even hotter sun, making the final run challenging. Only in the end was the winner evidently Grant Sheldon from the United Kingdom, who arrived way ahead. He was then followed by Jonas Schomburg from Turkey for silver and Léo Bergere from France for bronze.
The Championship took place in parallel to popular races organized by Nyon Triathlon for the last 28 years. The student's athletes had the great opportunity to enjoy a spectacular show, and with also an incredible audience, cheering loud and clear at the transition and finish line.
The 2016 World University Triathlon Championship concluded with the award and closing ceremony, which took place on the shore of the Lake. The medal ceremony, full of good cheer, awarded not only the individual winners but also best teams.
For women teams, France made the gold, Switzerland the silver, and Italy the bronze.
For the men teams, the gold went to the United Kingdom, the silver for France, and the bronze for the United states .
The delegations then proceeded with a final parade, proudly representing their countries, before exchanging shirts, caps and pins among them. This great spirit of friendship persisted throughout the evening, which ended with delegations dancing all together, with members of the Organizing Committee
