Roundtable on the Borderline
..... compiled by Qursana!,
Anarchists from Israel and Lebanon discussed together about the effects of the latest war, their helplessnes, fear and the reasons behind it. Eyal and Anat, holding Israeli passports; and Hazem and Imad holding Lebanese passports are all risking persecution simply for talking to each other. According to Lebanese and Israeli law communication between the respective citizens is prohibited and in some cases punished with a court-martial (though more applied in Lebanon). For this, this is an illegal roundtable – part of it was a defying, challenging and painful conversation that did not go smooth without tears, rage, apologies, pain, guilt, affinity, discussion, smiles, and tight embraces. This conversation is not representative of the mass majority of both populations; it is rather an anarchist worm-eye view of the latest Israeli war on Lebanon. The meeting was facilitated by networks of global solidarity within autonomous spaces in Europe, and also through the growing global anti-capitalist anti-authoritarian movement. A movement that is witnessing crises, but also signs of life!

Israel still bombing - "this is not Djibouti"
Tales from Lebanon,
Israeli jets announced Israel’s official acceptance of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 – calling for a cessation of hostilities – by bombing Beirut’s southern suburbs 20 times within two minutes. The Israeli Cabinet’s decision had just appeared as breaking news on the TV broadcasts when the bombing started. Over the next few minutes – as the bombs continued to explode, and as the kids ran inside yelling, and as I flipped through all the channels trying to figure out where they were hitting – the breaking news continued with the specifications of who had voted how in the Israeli Cabinet.

The children of Ein el Helweh
Raida Hatoum,
As I am writing this, the news says that people who live in all districts of south beirut like Borj El Brajneh including the Palestinian refugee camp there, Hay El Sellom, Sheyah, etc. are being evacuated from their homes by UNICEF cars heading to north Lebanon after Israel stared bombing houses full of people warning the people to flee or it would bomb them.. while the Israeli Arabs of Haifa say answering the call of Nasralla for them to leave Haifa so they won't be killed in Hezbollah missiles, that they have learnt their lesson since 1948 and would not leave and however left with no shelters and no where to go they would stay in Haifa, also the news talks that now Israeli soldiers are besieging hundreds of people some of them are members of Lebanese army in the small town of Marjeioun southern Lebanon using them as human shields against Hezbollah who has besiged the Israelis...

Bomb Number Five, Salaam
Raida Hatoum,
I've lost count of the Days. And the Bombs. And the Dead
Beirut, first weekend of August
The Israeli war of genocide, destruction and siege is now on Day 24, but for myself I lost count ...as if this is how I lived all my life. Only when the numbers of those who are killed day after day are mentioned in the media I realize that I was paralyzed or numbed... and I realize that the war has eaten up another day of people’s lives.

URGENT APPEAL FOR SOLIDARITY WITH LEBANESE CIVIL SOCIETY
Indymedia Beirut,
The Israeli offensive against Lebanon is an act of aggression against the whole Lebanese people. The IOF (Israeli Occupation Forces) claims to be attacking an “infrastructure of terror”, but the attacks on bridges, roads, airports and ships are cutting the country into pieces, threatening to create a disastrous situation by impeding the transportation of food and medicines, and terrorizing everyone. Besides the hundreds killed and injured, thousands of people are fleeing the country, and thousands of people are fleeing from the areas where the bombing is heaviest into central Beirut. Even here in the “safe” parts of the city we can hear the bombs throughout the day and night, and electrical and water supplies are tenuous.
