ABOUT NABO

Nabo is the social network for your suburb connecting neighbours in over 6,500 communities across Australia.

Are you THAT cranky neighbour?

If you have done any of the things on this list, you may as well put up a ‘KEEP OUT’ sign in your front yard. Find out and read our tips to finding peace in your neighbourhood.

GIVING DEATH STARES

Are you the passive aggressive type who prefers to shoot daggers from your eyes towards the neighbours who play their favourite reality TV show with the volume up each night? Nobody wants to deal with a sour face and death stares might help your neighbours avoid you but it probably won't stop them from doing what annoys you the most. It's better to be upfront as soon as you can and voice what annoys you.

Nabo works better with more people. Build a stronger community.

STREET PARKING

Do you get a little territorial when it comes to the parking around your home? Have you ever knocked on a stranger's car window and informed them that they 'Cannot park there!'? As much as you may not own the on-street or visitor parking, it gets on your nerves when someone else occupies it.  Unfortunately, this is all shared parking and is not any one person's property. They, just like you, cannot monopolise these spots.

COMPLAINING TO STRATA

Do you complain about laughing children? Or, request that residents not make noise after 9PM? As urban areas become more and more densely populated, residents will need to adjust and be more accepting of the sounds that come with it. Remember that if noise is becoming an issue, speak to your neighbours nicely and come up with an arrangement you can both agree on. Unless half the building shares your grievances, you don’t need to demand changes to the strata regulations.

Chat with your neighbours about everything from local issues to bin collection.

OBJECTS WANDERING ONTO YOUR PROPERTY

Do you refuse to return property that wanders over the fence? If a ball bounces into your garden knocking over a potted plant, how do you resond? Shouting over the fence and being rude is not the best way to handle it. If toys and balls entering your property can potentially damage something valuable, speak to your neighbour and be sure to explain the situation in a friendly manner.

DON'T BE A CURTAIN TWITCHER

Don't be a curtain twitcher

Being angry at you neigbours for silly reasons is a waste of time. Try not to spy through the window if you don’t like the new happy-go-lucky couple who moved in next door or you‘re not a fan of hearing children playing in their front yard.  You do not need to be best friends with your neighbours, but you do need to show them respect.
