Anzac Commemorations in the Inner West

It's almost time for Anzac Day, the occasion that commemorates all Australian soldiers who served and died in war. We've compiled a list of the top places to remember these wartime heroes. Whether it's through attending a dawn service, memorial, or by playing two-up with some mates at your local pub, we've got you covered.
 

ANZAC SUNDAY MEMORIAL SERVICE (Ashfield)

Ashfield's RSL Club will host its annual Anzac Day Memorial Service on Sunday 23 April. Starting at 930am and concluding at 1015am, the service will be held at the Memorial Obelisk at Ashfield Park. There will be a shuttle bus leaving the RSL car park between 8am and 9am. A march contingent will form on Pembroke Street and back to the RSL, followed by light refreshments in the club auditorium.

ANZAC DAY DAWN SERVICE (Balmain)

Each year, Leichhardt Council, in conjunction with Balmain RSL, hosts a Commemorative Anzac Service at Loyalty Square. Taking place this Tuesday 25 April, the service will be undertaken next to one of the world’s oldest World War l Memorials. Beginning at 6am and concluding at 7am, the service is free to attend, meaning you don't have to be a club member to come along to pay your respects.

BURWOOD ANZAC COMMEMORATION MARCH & DAWN SERVICE (Burwood)

Burwood Council is holding an extensive service at the Memorial Arch in Burwood Park. The commemorations will begin with an Anzac Day march, departing from the corner of Church Street and Burwood Road at 6am. Following this, the service will start at 630am in the park. After the Anzac ceremony, Club Burwood will be open for breakfast available between 730am and 9am.

ANZAC DAY AT ERKO'S (Esrkineville)

Mark this day of remembrance in classic Aussie form by catching up with your mates for a beer at the Erko. The Erskeneville Hotel is hosting an Anzac Day celebration from 12pm to late with traditional games of two-up, good food and a karma keg - don't be stingy, come along with a wad of cash - all proceeds will go to Legacy Australia, an organisation that cares for incapacitated or deceased veterans' widows.

ANZAC DAY HOSTED BY THE OXFORD TAVERN (Petersham)

Calling all carnivores! This Anzac Day, the Oxford Tavern will be kicking off its celebrations at 12pm, promising it's infamous Black Betty BBQ and $5 beers. The pub boasts the Inner West's best two-up and will host Aussie Battler DJs in the Garden from 2pm. Make sure you come along for good fun and big laughs with host and comedian Daniel Muggleton.
