Bob Dylan (/ˈdɪlən/; born Robert Allen Zimmerman, May 24, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter, artist and writer. He has been influential in popular music and culture for more than five decades. Much of his most celebrated work dates from the 1960s when his songs chronicled social unrest, although Dylan repudiated suggestions from journalists that he was a spokesman for his generation. Nevertheless, early songs such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are a-Changin'" became anthems for the American civil rights and anti-war movements. After he left his initial base in the American folk music revival, his six-minute single "Like a Rolling Stone" altered the range of popular music in 1965. His mid-1960s recordings, backed by rock musicians, reached the top end of the United States music charts while also attracting denunciation and criticism from others in the folk movement.
Dylan's lyrics have incorporated various political, social, philosophical, and literary influences. They defied existing pop music conventions and appealed to the burgeoning counterculture. Initially inspired by the performances of Little Richard, and the songwriting of Woody Guthrie, Robert Johnson, and Hank Williams, Dylan has amplified and personalized musical genres. His recording career, spanning 50 years, has explored the traditions in American song—from folk, blues, and country to gospel, rock and roll, and rockabilly to English, Scottish, and Irish folk music, embracing even jazz and the Great American Songbook. Dylan performs with guitar, keyboards, and harmonica. Backed by a changing line-up of musicians, he has toured steadily since the late 1980s on what has been dubbed the Never Ending Tour. His accomplishments as a recording artist and performer have been central to his career, but songwriting is considered his greatest contribution.

Plot: Not The Messiah (He's a Very Naughty Boy) is a comic oratorio based on Monty Python's Life of Brian, which retells the tragic tale of Mandy, impregnated by a Roman soldier, giving birth to Brian, a reluctant revolutionary of the People's Front of Judea who falls in love with Judith, gets mistaken for a Messiah and is arrested by the Romans and sentenced to be crucified. It ranges in reference from Handel, through a naughty Mozart duet, to the Festival of Nine Carols, Bob Dylan, and the classic finale "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life".

Plot: With a set of drums and an 8mm color home movie camera, Mickey Jones toured the world in 1966 with Bob Dylan and The Band. He captured on film what became known as "The tour that changed Rock and Roll forever." The booing crowds, the scathing reviews, the stomping feet, the infamous catcall of "Judas!" ... all of this in response to Dylan trading in his acoustic folk guitar for an electric sound. Now, for the first time, drummer-turned-actor Mickey Jones (Sling Blade, Home Improvement), with the help of Director Joel Gilbert, chronicles the legendary 1966 Bob Dylan World Tour through his recently discovered home movies. The updated release includes new, exclusive full-length interviews with Charlie Daniels, Johnny Rivers, 1966 World Tour and Gaslight tapes sound man Richard Alderson, and new insights and revelations by Mickey Jones.

Plot: This epic is a mass amalgamation of three separate film-types that is, contrary to popular opinion, coherent and a unified whole. Bob Dylan is shown in concert, often masked, during the Rolling Thunder Revue. The film also features documentary footage, including Ruben "Hurricane" Carter's struggle against the forces that have imprisoned him. The third element is fictional "role-playing" footage with Bob Dylan in the guise of guitar-strumming Renaldo and his wife Sara as his companion Clara. Ronnie Hawkins takes on the role of Bob Dylan in these sequences. The film includes footage of a visit to the grave of Jack Kerouac, an Allen Ginsberg poetry reading and various friends and acquaintances, namely David Blue (playing pinball by a swimming pool), discussing experiences on the road.

Plot: A committee investigating TV's first uncensored network examines a typical day's programming, which includes shows, commercials, news programs, you name it. What they discover will surely crack you up! This outrageous and irreverent spoof of television launched the careers of some of the greatest comedians of all time.

Hello everyone. Today I upload a new concert after being absent for a while. This time, we're jumping in 1978 and what was one of Dylan's darkest period and one of his most controversial tour. A lot of people thought the 1978 World Tour or "Alimony Tour" was bad, due to the Live at Budokan double LP. In fact, it was one of the most exciting, especially in Europe in Summer and the US in Autumn. This tape is from the Pavillon de Paris concert in July. You can find it on the bootleg "Border Beneath the Sun". It was the fourth night from a series of six concerts in Paris. Bob is on fire and you can hear the power of the big band. He's rocking with all he can and the Street-Legal songs are amazing. The sound is excellent. This is a must have for any fan of Bob Dylan during that time. I in...

I'm still looking for the first show of the tour in Stockholm, even though it's still early. A historic biography about the poet of protest music in America This four-hour biography of Bob Dylan, directed by Martin Scorsese, synthesizes rare and raw footage of Dylan’s entry onto the music scene in the early 1960s. This film about the reclusive poet-singer who rose to fame during the protest era held together by a single long, reflective interview with Dylan. The documentary also includes interviews with seminal popular musicians, music producers and towering cultural figures who knew Dylan well, including Allen Ginsberg, Joan Baez, Peter Yarrow, and Pete Seeger. Telling the story of the coming of age of an iconic musician, it is a portrait of an existential man bursting with metaphors and compelled to sing them out loud. It is also a story about alienation that illuminates a pe...
On Bob Dylan’s 70th birthday, Democracy Now! airs a special program on his life and music. Dylan was born Robert Allen Zimmerman on May 24, 1941, in Duluth, MN. He moved to Greenwich Village in 1961 and within a few years, he would be viewed by many as the voice of a generation as he wrote some of the decade’s most famous songs, including “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “The Times They Are a-Changing,” “Like a Rolling Stone,” “Masters of War,” “Desolation Row” and “Mr. Tambourine Man.” After emerging from the New York City folk scene, Dylan explored many other genres, from rock to country to the blues. He continues to tour to this day. In 2008, the Pulitzer Prize jury awarded him a special citation for "his profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of ex...

I read this quote from an old Dylan interview and decided it sounded like song lyrics, so I grabbed my mando and banged this out. Sort of accidentally copped the melody from The Mountain Goats' "Going to Alaska." Playboy Magazine: Mistake or not, what made you decide to go the rock-'n'-roll route? Bob Dylan: Carelessness. I lost my one true love. I started drinking. The first thing I know, I'm in a card game. Then I'm in a crap game. I wake up in a pool hall. Then this big Mexican lady drags me off the table, takes me to Philadelphia. She leaves me alone in her house, and it burns down. I wind up in Phoenix. I get a job as a Chinaman. This was recorded in 1966 so it was a few years before The Band split and did their own thing. I think it's pretty cool to see Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Garth Hudson, and Richard Manuel playing with Dylan at such an early time, so early The Band didn't even look like themselves because this was before they got the look that we're all so familiar with. Hope you enjoy! EDIT: Robbie plays an amazing solo at the very end of the song right after the camera pans away from Richard
“I had little in common with and knew even less about a generation that I was supposed to be the voice of…”, Bob Dylan writes in his 2004 autobiography “Chronicles Volume One”. Plain words that symbolised his diffi cult relationship with the off stage world. Adored by his fans and thought of as some kind of Messiah by the media, Dylan spent the better part of his life trying to escape their stifl ing embrace. Even Bob Dylan himself can’t deny the social impact of his songs. For four decades, “The thinking man‘s Elvis” (Warhol) has been a captivator, provoker, confuser and innovator who released more than 500 songs and played thousands of sometimes wondrous, sometimes wonderful concerts around the globe. One of those concerts was on May 23rd 1976 when Dylan played in the frame of his “Rolli...

So glad to be able to share this! We, and by we I mean http://isthis.gd, built a MIDI orchestra for Grey London and Brother from old computer junk. Photocopiers, scanners, fax machines, printers, hard drives, modems and the like. We thought it'd be most fun to do it for real. We were really inspired by Tristram Cary, James Houston, BD594 and other radical tinkerers. Making cold stuff warm is fun. We found loads of old machines destined for landfill, took them to bits and reverse engineered them to make noises that we could control via MIDI. Badman Will Cohen made an arrangement of Bob Dylan's 'The Times They Are A-Changin' but the orchestra can play any MIDI arrangement, or indeed be performed live. Maximum respect to Neil Mendoza, Marek Bereza, Will Cohen, Stefan Dzisiewski-Smith, ...

Shadows (song by Gordon Lightfoot - Bob said it was a request, Bob on grand piano, Donnie on pedal steedl, Stu on acoustic guitar, Charlie on dobro) October 10, 2012 Once again, Bob Dylan did not perform anything from his new album at his concert in Edmonton, Alberta, last night. However, fans witnessed something even more special. Dylan played an unexpected "request" at the show, according to a post at Bob Links. It was the live premiere of "Shadows," a song by Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot. Dylan has been a big supporter of Lightfoot's, even covering "Early Morning Rain" on 1970's "Self Portrait," and performing "I'm Not Supposed to Care" on stage. Lightfoot, like Dylan, was managed by Albert Grossma...

Again new video for today. I gathered all the takes I could find and upload from this iconic album into one compilation, starting with most of the original pressing before the late December 1974 sessions (what many call the "Original" Blood On The Tracks) and then in chronological order the takes from all the sessions that are allowed by copyright laws. I strongly encourage you to read also the text from Pete Hamill that was on the back cover of the album. It resonates more and more as the day goes by. Here is an excerpt: "In the end, the plague touched us all. It was not confined to the Oran of Camus. No. It turned up again in America, breeding in-a-compost of greed and uselessness and murder, in those places where statesmen and generals stash the bodies of the forever young. The pl...
Hello everyone, New video today, with Bob back in the studio. The eighties were a very contrasted period for a lot of artists. Some found a new career (Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits), others confused their audience and almost disappeared (Bob Dylan, Neil Young). But when you look closer, Bob had real gems and without the dated production, it could have been a true masterpiece. Infidels is the perfect example. Bob rushed the production, because he didn't want to wait for Mark Knopfler (producer, guitarist and singer from Dire Straits) to finish sequencing the album. On a personal note, you could still hear some religious themes in this album, remnants from the Gospel Years, but closer to his jewish roots. The outrageous replacement of Blind Willie Mc Tell, Foot of Pride, and Someone's Got ...
Hello everyone, As promised, you have the first available show from the current tour. It was recorded just three days ago in Stockholm and it's the second concert of the 2017 Europe Spring Tour. The set has changed a bit but the core is still the same. Things Have Changed remains the intro. To Ramona is again in for the first time since 2015. Highway 61 Revisited stays since Desert Trip 2016 and the rest is the usual mix of Sinatra songs and Modern Bob. Great gig. I hope I can find the first Stockholm concert with Standing In The Doorway (first played since 2005). Stay tune for more Setlist 1. Things Have Changed 2. To Ramona 3. Highway 61 Revisited 4. I'm still looking for the first show of the tour in Stockholm, even though it's still early. One fine day, back in May, two strangers unknowingly shared a moment on a train... A man named Nigel was traveling from Nottingham to London, keeping himself to himself, when he couldn’t help but overhear a conversation that blew his mind. He listened in as a fellow passenger revealed that she’d once been to a gig to see a ‘Really boring, old guy… really boring, really old… Bob… Bob something…Bob Dylan!’. ‘BOB DYLAN!?’, he thought to himself. He was gobsmacked by her ignorance towards his life-long hero, raising an eyebrow in incredulity. Nigel was so gobsmacked, in fact, that he went home and wrote a song about it...This song, ‘Me & Dylan’, and how it came about, was the inspiration behind the ‘Listen with Nigel’ project- a unique musical experiment which captures a one-off moment in Bri...
● MAN OF CONSTANT SORROW (Traditional) The traditional American folk song "Man of Constant Sorrow" (also known as "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow") first published around 1913, by American folk musician and songwriter Richard Daniel (Dick) Burnett (1883 - 1977) a partially blind fiddler from Kentucky. Another earlier version was recorded by Emry Arthur in 1928, which gave the song its current titles. There exist a number of versions of the song that differ in their lyrics and melodies. The song was popularized by "The Stanley Brothers" who recorded the song in the 1950s and many versions were recorded in the 1960s, most notably by Bob Dylan, also been recorded under the titles of "Girl of Constant Sorrow" by Joan Baez. Public interest in the song was renewed after the release of the 2000 f...

New Video’s Docurama Films® presents the first Blu-ray release of Dont Look Back, newly mastered in high definition (HD) and featuring this brand new and exclusive interview with D.A. Pennebaker, the film's director, and renowned rock and culture critic Greil Marcus. When acclaimed documentary filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker (Monterey Pop, The War Room) filmed Bob Dylan during a three-week concert tour of England in the spring of 1965, he had no idea he was about to lens one of the 1960s most iconic feature films. Wanting to make more than just a concert film, Pennebaker decided to seek out both the public and private Bob Dylan. With unobtrusive equipment and rare access to the elusive performer, he achieved a fly-o...

The pl...

Well, if I had to do it all over again,
Babe, I'd do it all over you.
And if I had to wait for ten thousand years,
Babe, I'd even do that too.
Well, a dog's got his bone in the alley,
A cat, she's got nine lives,
A millionaire's got a million dollars,
King Saud's got four hundred wives.
Well, ev'rybody's got somethin'
That they're lookin' forward to.
I'm lookin' forward to when I can do it all again
And babe, I'll do it all over you.
Well, if I had my way tomorrow or today,
Babe, I'd run circles all around.
I'd jump up in the wind, do a somersault and spin,
I'd even dance a jig on the ground.
Well, everybody gets their hour,
Everybody gets their time,
Little David when he picked up his pebbles,
Even Sampson after he went blind.
Well, everybody gets the chance
To do what they want to do.
When my time arrives you better run for your life
'Cause babe, I'll do it all over you.
Well, I don't need no money, I just need a day that's sunny,
Baby, and my days are gonna come.
And I grab me a pint, you know that I'm a giant
When you hear me yellin', "Fee-fi-fo-fum."
Well, you cut me like a jigsaw puzzle,
You made me to a walkin' wreck,
Then you pushed my heart through my backbone,
Then you knocked off my head from my neck.
Well, if I'm ever standin' steady
A-doin' what I want to do,
Well, I tell you little lover that you better run for cover
'Cause babe, I'll do it all over you.
I'm just restin' at your gate so that I won't be late
And, momma, I'm a-just sittin' on the shelf.
Look out your window fair and you'll see me squattin' there
Just a-fumblin' and a-mumblin' to myself.
Well, after my cigarette's been smoked up,
After all my liquor's been drunk,
After my dreams are dreamed out,
After all my thoughts have been thunk,
Well, after I do some of these things,
I'm gonna do what I have to do.
And I tell you on the side, that you better run and hide
