The Republic of the Congo (French: République du Congo), also known as Congo, Congo Republic,West Congo, or Congo-Brazzaville, is a country located in Central Africa. It is bordered by five countries: Gabon to the west; Cameroon to the northwest; the Central African Republic to the northeast; the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the east and south; and the Angolan exclave of Cabinda to the southwest.
The region was dominated by Bantu-speaking tribes, who built trade links leading into the Congo River basin. Congo-Brazzaville was formerly part of the French colony of Equatorial Africa. Upon independence in 1960, the former colony of French Congo became the Republic of the Congo. The People's Republic of the Congo was a Marxist–Leninist one-party state from 1970 to 1991. Multi-party elections have been held since 1992, although a democratically elected government was ousted in the 1997 Republic of the Congo Civil War and President Denis Sassou Nguesso has ruled for 26 of the past 36 years.
Rio de Janeiro (/ˈriːoʊ di ʒəˈnɛəroʊ, -deɪ ʒə-, -də dʒə-/; Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈʁi.u dʒi ʒɐˈnejɾu];River of January), or simply Rio, is the second-largest city in Brazil, the sixth-largest city in the Americas, and the world's thirty-ninth largest city by population. The metropolis is anchor to the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area, the second most populous metropolitan area in Brazil, the seventh-most populous in the Americas, and the twenty-third largest in the world. Rio de Janeiro is the capital of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil's third-most populous state. Part of the city has been designated as a World Heritage Site, named "Rio de Janeiro: Carioca Landscapes between the Mountain and the Sea", by UNESCO on 1 July 2012 as a Cultural Landscape.
Founded in 1565 by the Portuguese, the city was initially the seat of the Captaincy of Rio de Janeiro, a domain of the Portuguese Empire. Later, in 1763, it became the capital of the State of Brazil, a state of the Portuguese Empire. In 1808, when the Portuguese Royal Court transferred itself from Portugal to Brazil, Rio de Janeiro became the chosen seat of the court of Queen Maria I of Portugal, who subsequently, in 1815, under the leadership of her son, the Prince Regent, and future King João VI of Portugal, raised Brazil to the dignity of a kingdom, within the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil, and Algarves. Rio stayed the capital of the pluricontinental Lusitanian monarchy until 1822, when the War of Brazilian Independence began. This is one of the few instances in history that the capital of a colonising country officially shifted to a city in one of its colonies. Rio de Janeiro subsequently served as the capital of the independent monarchy, the Empire of Brazil, until 1889, and then the capital of a republican Brazil until 1960 when the capital was transferred to Brasília.
Pedro García or Garcia may refer to:
Pedro Lobo (Rio de Janeiro, 1954) is a Brazilian photographer. He currently lives in Portugal.
Lobo has exhibited his work in Brazil, Denmark, Germany, Colombia and in the United States. His interest in popular architecture as a construction of human individuality has led him to photograph slums (or favelas) and prisons such as the one in Sao Paulo known as Carandiru (later demolished). The latter pictures were shown in the exhibition Imprisoned spaces/Espaços aprisionados at Blue Sky Gallery, in Portland, Oregon, in 2005.
His first one-man show in Portugal was Favelas: Architecture of Survival at Museu Municipal Prof. Joaquim Vermelho in 2009 in Estremoz, later exhibited in Galeria 3+1 in Lisbon.
In 2010, the Art Institute of Charleston partnered with the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art at the College of Charleston and the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs to bring Lobo to Charleston, South Carolina as their first international artist in residence. Lobo presented several lectures to Art Institute of Charleston photography students and took them on a guided tour of his solo exhibition at The City Gallery at Waterfront Park.
Santa Teresa (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈsɐ̃tɐ teˈɾezɐ]) is the name of a neighborhood in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is located on top of the Santa Teresa hill, by the centre of Rio, and is famous for its winding, narrow streets which are a favourite spot for artists and tourists.
The neighborhood originated around the Santa Teresa Convent, built in the 1750s on the Desterro hill. At the end of the 19th and early 20th century it was an upper class borough, as testified by its magnificent mansions, many of which are still standing.
Santa Teresa ceased being an upper-class neighbourhood long ago, but it has been revived as an artistic hotspot. It is home to several artists and art studios and galleries. The offer of restaurants and bars is also varied.
One of Santa Teresa's most illustrious inhabitants was Raimundo Otoni Castro Maya, an art collector who lived in his Chácara do Céu mansion in the neighborhood. The mansion was turned into a museum (Museu da Chácara do Céu) and its exhibits include works by Matisse, Jean Metzinger, Eliseu Visconti, Di Cavalcanti, and Candido Portinari. It is located near the cultural center Parque das Ruínas. In 2006, some paintings were stolen, and haven't been recovered yet.

While some places are on this list due to armed conflicts and violence, other places are on the list thanks to physical or biological calamities. Regardless of the reasons, the one thing all of these places have in common is that most western governments do not advise travel to them unless it is absolutely necessary. These are the 25 most dangerous places to visit as a tourist. Also, before we continue, just remember, being on this list doesn't necessarily mean the entire country is bad to visit (although it can). Just make sure to check on regional travel warnings. Changing the face of African travel, the Republic of the Congo has opened up Central Africa’s great equatorial rainforests and intrepid travellers can now walk through sunlit jungle in search of gorillas and chimpanzees, stake out salt licks to wait for shy forest buffalo and elephant, and sweep a spotlight around at night to look for rare antelope and stealthy predators. With most of its population concentrated in the south and the capital Brazzaville, Congo has managed to keep most of its northern forests and wetlands intact, the epitome of which is the spectacular Odzala-Kokoua National Park. Here, over 13 000 km² of primary rainforest provides Central Africa’s most important sanctuary for lowland gorillas and forest elephants. Odzala’s best accommodation is a trio of luxurious fly-in ...
The Congo contains some of the most fascinating natural wildlife habitats in Africa. This fascinating country is home to a remarkable creature, the Mountain Gorilla. Our destination is the Virunga National Park that extends along the borders of the Congo, Uganda and Ruanda. Close to the border with Uganda is the village of Goma that contains several dwellings and a good market that displays an amazing variety of exotic fruit. After a short but very welcome break the journey continues in a four-wheel drive minibus but this does not last very long as it soon becomes necessary to travel by foot, a daunting prospect but also one inspired by the possibility of spotting the rare Mountain Gorilla in its natural habitat on a journey that will take around two days. The excitement continues to moun...
It is a deep dive into the heartland of Africa, into the mysterious Democratic Republic of Congo. A dream of many backpackers and often cited as a dangerous country to travel. Moving from A to B in the DRC is an adventure for outsiders and still challenge for locals and not everything is true about what comes into your mind for Congo. Yes, it still struggles for peace in its eastern region. The UN and other organizations trying to stabilize and support the country and as many refugees from other countries flood over the border, it is a challenge to be faced here. Despite all these efforts, for me Congo resembles still an authentic and real Africa off the beaten track. Rarely a visitor crosses into the DRC and while in Congo for little bit over three weeks, I only met two other travelers - ...
3x3 52 486 is an experimental short film made by Attila Lorant. The film was made with stop motion technique, photographed frame by frame. Approximately 7500 photos from 8 countries (Czech Republic, Egypt, Congo, Hungary, Sweden, Turkey, United States of America and Spain) were used in this production. This experimental film constitutes a part of a new project - called 3x3 52 486 - of a versatile artist (photographer, writer, director, designer) Attila Lorant. The gist of the project is a 148 pages long photo album, along which an other film was also produced - a 5 minutes long "How to make" documentary. From this project, an exhibition and an iPad application are also coming out soon. “3x3 is a mosaic, a diary, an encyclopaedia. It is a personal project, a self-confession. It’s a medit...

Again I start this but I'll add a new twist
So the masses can't resist
The message brought by a Panther strictly
To relieve the disease of the sickly
So long your mind's been trapped
Slave, 'cause you're shamed to be black
Ignorant of the purpose of the plan
To keep the black man down under
So I'll address y'all this time
Make a statement that's on my mind
Brothers scared of revolution should be
Thinkin' of the way that we could be
Miss blue eyes, how'd you do that?
Tried to put him in but the skin is still black
Thinkin' of a way to escape the darkness
See the weave and indeed I start this off
Black is black is black is black off
Black is black is black is black
S E D I T I O N
In the mood of the move I'm showin'
See the way the clinches have been torn
Cold spittin' facts to the miracle Earth born
So what's your next move, black?
Go to school or maybe join a frat
Still you seem lost, the mind is brainwashed
It can't be good 'cause your mind's the cost
So flip on your Young MC
Or Jazzy Jeff or whatever the case be
Mindless music for the masses makes ya
Think less of the one that hates ya
Then trained to respect the game
And you turn your back on a black with the same claim
Oh, blessed but you guess they mean less
Because another brother can't afford to dress
The way you do but who said you're all that?
Made a little money, now your skin ain't black?
C'mon I don't think your shit don't stink
You can't run from the one whose primal instinct
Is to fought the words I taught ya
Thought you moved quick but I just caught ya
Now you try to say that you don't remember me
I'm P-Dog from the B.P. posse
Or a mob, that's known as Scarface
Pro-black and some think pro-hate
But in fact it's a call for unity
Heed the plea of weak we're soon to be
Move, start this
Black is black is black is black
Enter the dark side
Black is black is black is black
Yeah, funky
Dance
Now who did you think that you were steppin' to
Once your job came through
Don't get big, 'cause I caught your accent
Shoulda been real but you wanted mass appeal
Next time you might think of this
Might remember why I'm above this
But for now, my brother, I'll say
