The chickpea or chick pea (Cicer arietinum) is a legume of the family Fabaceae, subfamily Faboideae. It is also known as gram, or Bengal gram, garbanzo or garbanzo bean, and sometimes known as Egyptian pea, ceci, cece or chana, or Kabuli chana (particularly in northern India). Its seeds are high in protein. It is one of the earliest cultivated legumes: 7,500-year-old remains have been found in the Middle East.
The name "chickpea" traces back through the French chiche to cicer, Latin for 'chickpea' (from which the Roman cognomen Cicero was taken). The Oxford English Dictionary lists a 1548 citation that reads, "Cicer may be named in English Cich, or ciche pease, after the Frenche tongue." The dictionary cites "Chick-pea" in the mid-18th century; the original word in English taken directly from French was chich, found in print in English in 1388.
The word garbanzo came first to American English as garvance in the 17th century, from an alteration of the Old Spanish word arvanço (presumably influenced by garroba), being gradually anglicized to calavance, though it came to refer to a variety of other beans (cf. calavance). The current form garbanzo comes directly from modern Spanish. This word is still used in Latin America and Spain to designate chickpeas. Some have suggested that the origin of the word arvanço is in the Greek erebinthos. Another possible origin is the word garbantzu, from Basque — a non-Indo-European tongue — in which it is a compound of garau, seed + antzu, dry.
Everyday Food from the test kitchens of Martha Stewart Living was a digest size cooking magazine and PBS public television program published and produced by Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (MSLO). Both feature quick and easy recipes targeted at supermarket shoppers and the everyday cook.
Everyday Food was established in 2003. The television show, which is distributed nationwide on PBS by WETA-TV, includes recipes and tips from the magazine and is hosted by five members of the MSLO senior editorial staff. It stopped print versions in December 2012.
A companion series, Everyday Baking from Everyday Food, with John Barricelli as the principal chef, is also presented on PBS by WETA-TV.
Unlike most other PBS cooking shows, these programs are heavily edited, using extreme closeups, and never show any of the product brands used.

Deb will be making a variant of the classic hamburger, great if you have vegetarian friends coming over: the chickpea burger. Find this and many more recipes on the Giallozafferano App in English http://itunes.apple.com/app/giallozafferano-recipes/id384387249?mt=8 *** Tonight my vegetarian friend Hanna is coming over for dinner, so I decided to make a variant of the classic hamburger, the chickpea burger. It takes less than 30 minutes to make; I'm using canned chickpeas, but you can also use dried chickpeas, as long as you soak them for at least 10-12 hours. So, put the chickpeas in a food processor... then cut the shallot. This recipe is great not only for vegetarians, but also to get your kids to eat legumes, since they're usually a little bit reluctant. Roughly cut the garlic, to...

Every time when I'm feeling blue
I look inside me and I remember you
Every time when I'm feeling blue
I remember you
Some words in my mind
Talk about it all time
Again and again
And they just make me cry
Oh baby, come on
Before you give up and go
Could you believe in love?
Bad words and good times
In my mind don't survive
Again and again
And they just make me die
Oh baby, come on
Before you give up and go
Do you believe in love?
Baby, I wanna shake you up
Shake you up, shake you up
Do you wanna take my heart?
Baby, I wanna shake you up
Shake you up, shake you up
Take me up, baby, give up
Baby, I wanna shake you up
Come on, baby, shake you up
All I want is another way
Baby, I wanna shake you up
Oh my baby, shake you up
All I need is another say
Sometimes on my mind
I remember those times
Again and again
And they just tell me lies
Oh baby, come on
Before you give up and go
Could you believe in love?
Bad words and good times
In my mind they revive
Again and again
And they don't say, "Goodbye"
Oh baby, come on
Before you give up and go
Do you believe in love?
Baby, I wanna shake you up
Shake you up, shake you up
Do you wanna take my heart?
Baby, I wanna shake you up
Shake you up, shake you up
Take me up, baby, give up
Every time when I'm feeling blue
I look inside me and I remember you
Every time when I'm feeling blue
I remember you
Baby, I wanna shake you up
Shake you up, shake you up
Do you wanna take my heart?
Baby, I wanna shake you up
Shake you up, shake you up
Take me up, baby, give up
Baby, I wanna shake you up
Come on, baby, shake you up
All I want is another way
Baby, I wanna shake you up
Oh my baby, shake you up
All I need is another day
