'A tale that's truly inspirational' The Sun
An ordinary lad from Sheffield, Jamie Vardy has become known as an against-the-odds footballing hero the world over. Yet a few years ago, things couldn’t have been any more different. Rejected as a teenager by his boyhood club, Jamie thought his chance was gone. But from playing pub football and earning £30 a week at Stocksbridge Park Steels, while still working in a factory, his off-the-cuff performances saw him rise.
Jamie had a wild and turbulent youth, something he doesn’t shy away from. But football became his saving grace and, once he filled his boots with goals at FC Halifax Town and Fleetwood Town, he moved to Leicester City. With a growing sense of focus, Jamie put his head in the game. After the miracle of surviving relegation, Leicester set out on their fairy-tale season. The team of unlikely outsiders bonded together to achieve the unthinkable: Jamie set the record as the first player to score in 11 consecutive Premier League matches and Leicester beat odds of 5000-1 to become champions. Defying all expectations, this is the story of the boy from nowhere who reached the top in his own unflinching, honest words.
“Even now there are moments when I shake my head at the madness of it all – going from the factory floor and playing Sunday morning pub football with my mates, to scoring for my country against the World Cup winners in Berlin. It's the stuff of dreams. It hasn't always been an easy journey, some doubted that I was capable, and at times I was probably guilty of not helping myself, but nobody can question my passion for football or my commitment once I set foot on the pitch. There is so much that people don’t know and I look forward to sharing all of that and more in what I hope will be an inspiring story.” Jamie Vardy

Despite not being a fan of any of the clubs he has represented I enjoyed reading his journey up the football ladder. Very open and very honest with plenty of stories of nights out with a few scraps along the way, it reminded me of players a whole generation before the current modern footballer whom are perceived to be more professional than ever.
However Jamie Vardy bucks the trend of the modern professional footballer not just in the way he “made it” but also how he behaved in his early years too.
I found the book to be relatable to my early 20s. Jamie Vardy comes across as down to earth lad who achieved his dream the unconventional way and makes for a good read. Worth the money.
He explained everything with ease and was very honest, and also a bit of comedy in it!
Perfect!
A player who has progressed so much over the past few years and has demonstrated to the world that you don't need to play in a BIG football academy your whole life and then at the age of 15-16-17 sign a big contract with a big club, but that if you keep your head high up during difficult times and you never give up, you can make it even if you play non-league at the age of 25.
He seems to have a great family and even though he went through some problems with his parents he decided he could create his own family if they didn't want to fully accept him and his girlfriend/wife.
Really funny guy who is just actually a normal bloke that likes to have a drink here and there and that does and did all the things we do.
The photos were allso great and he made a great choice by chosing and describing the photos.
Read it in one sitting.
Even though I support Spurs and I rarely read other clubs footballers autobiographies I decided to give it a goand was very surprised and happy with it.
Cheers Vards!!!
Really reccomend to every football fan.
Especially recommended for Wednesday fans like me, as much as it hurts to admit we threw away a diamond. Also for sports fans the world over, especially after the Leicester fairytale!
Addictive reading, smashed it out in a day on holiday and was left wanting more.
Although the broad outline of Vardy's journey from factory worker in Sheffield to Footballer Of The Year and Premier League title winner is well known, the numerous ups and downs he endured in the course of that journey are not. This book represents a wish to enlighten, as well as enthrall. It succeeds on both counts.
Vardy's story transcends football - and indeed, sport. It symbolises a triumph of human spirit, a willingness to nurture, cherish and pursue dreams until they are finally realised.
The author is far from a saint, but acknowledges his past mistakes with a candour and humility which many others in current British public life would do well to learn from and copy.
Here is a tale that deserves to be told, and read.
