Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome to Cabaret. The winner of eight Academy Awards, it boasts a score by the legendary songwriting partnership behind another film that would energize the movie musical genre with equal razzle-dazzle 30 years later: Chicago's John Kander and Fred Ebb. Inside the Kit Kat Club of 1931 Berlin, starry-eyed singer Sally Bowles (Liza Minnelli) and an impish emcee (Joel Grey) sound the clarion call to decadent fun, while outside a certain political party grows into a brutal force. Cabaret caught lightning (and won Oscars) for Minnelli, Grey and director Bob Fosse, who shaped a triumph of style and substance. Come to this Cabaret, old chum. You'll never want to leave. The old timer would have been a veteran of the great war, thinking Ahhh shit! Here we go again.. Scene and song were writte by a Jewish guy ,so any Neo Nazi morons trying to claim this as an anthem are REALLY reinforcing their own stupidity!! Which is unnecessary...Joel Grey's look at the end speaks a thousand words!! No rights are claimed to this material.

A famous song from Cabaret movie (1972) with Liza Minelli, Joel Gray and Michael York. The rise of Nazi-party (NSDAP) in early 1930s in Germany is shown very good in the movie.
"What good is sitting alone In your room? Come hear the music play. Life is a Cabaret, old chum, Come to the Cabaret. Put down the knitting, The book and the broom. It's time for a holiday. Life is a Cabaret, old chum Come to the Cabaret. Come taste the wine, Come hear the band. Come blow a horn, Start celebrating; Right this way, Your table's waiting. What good's permitting Some prophet of doom To wipe every smile away. Life is a Cabaret, old chum, So Come to the Cabaret! DON'T FORGET TO SUBSCRIBE! RATE IT AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK! "Mein Herr" Written by John Kander and Fred Ebb Sung by Liza Minnelli Bob Fosse Choreographed and Directed Liza Minnelli Performing Mein Herr in "Cabaret" before her arthritis, 3 hip replacements and a recent knee replacement. Dancers have a very poor shelf life. Gwen Verdon could not keep her head steady for decades. The world's best dancers always wind up crippled. Madonna paid homage to this number, Dancing with a Chair, for her "Confessions on a Dance Floor" tour which was her tribute to the stars of the 70s. Fosse stole it from Marlene Dietrich. Nothing is new. The smart ones only steal from the best.
Important: This is NOT meant to be a complete dark cabaret band/song list. If you feel I left someone out, check out my previous dark cabaret song collections, both here and on my other channel (Wiremux), you might find your favourite performers there. :) This is just a personal collection of songs that I think go well together. A few classics, some rare songs and gems that I couldn't find here on youtube. Plus it is a tribute to some of my latest favourite bands. Some songs are closer to dark folk rather than cabaret, and there is a bit of rock too, but they kinda belong to the same atmosphere, Talking of bands, if you feel these artists deserve more recognition, please consider purchasing their albums. Most artists presented here can be found on bandcamp. Playlist: 0:00 The Hearse So...

Cabaret takes place from 1929-1930, a time when Berlin, in the midst of a Post-World War I economic depression, is transitioning from an underground, avant-garde cultural epicenter to the beginnings of Hitler's totalitarian regime and the rise of the Nazi Party. Into this world enters Clifford Bradshaw (Liam Jeon '17), a struggling American writer looking for inspiration for his next novel. On his first night in Berlin, Cliff wanders into the Kit Kat Klub, a seedy nightclub overseen by the strange, omniscient and gender-bending Master of Ceremonies, "the Emcee" (Abigail Lupi '18). Here, Cliff meets Sally Bowles (Lucy Binswanger '17), a vivacious, talented cabaret performer, and an utterly lost soul. As Cliff and Sally fall further into an unconventional romantic relationship, the world aro...
This list includes my favourite female dark cabaret singers and songs. Please note that while I'm pretty sure I left out a bunch of great performers, this playlist was meant to reflect my personal favourites, and anyway, it is simply impossible to include and find every single work in the genre. Most songs here range from spooky to quirky. A bit of typical odd cabaret humour is there in almost every piece, and musical genres vary from more classical jazz and cabaret to swing or even rock and folk sometimes. Enjoy, and if you happen to have heard of similar singers, feel free to promote them here. The picture shows Theda Bara. This is a ultra rare recording of a performance of Cabaret during it's 1987 revival on broadway. This production stars Joel Grey as his signature role of the Master of Ceremonies. This recording dates back to 1988 and may have been recorded for the cast and production team. I'm not sure how it got out to the public. *I will take this video down if the copyright owners wish me to.
What good is sitting alone in your room?
Come hear the music play.
Life is a Cabaret, old chum,
Come to the Cabaret.
Put down the knitting,
The book and the broom.
Time for a holiday.
Life is Cabaret, old chum,
Come to the Cabaret.
Come taste the wine,
Come hear the band.
Come blow your horn,
Start celebrating;
Right this way,
Your table's waiting
No use permitting
soem prophet of doom
To wipe every smile away.
Come hear the music play.
Life is a Cabaret, old chum,
Come to the Cabaret!
I used to have a girlfriend
known as Elsie
With whom I shared
Four sordid rooms in Chelsea
She wasn't what you'd call
A blushing flower...
As a matter of fact
She rented by the hour.
The day she died the neighbors
came to snicker:
"Well, thats what comes
from to much pills and liquor."
But when I saw her laid out like a Queen
She was the happiest...corpse...
I'd ever seen.
I think of Elsie to this very day.
I'd remember how'd she turn to me and say:
"What good is sitting alone in your room?
Come hear the music play.
Life is a Cabaret, old chum,
Come to the Cabaret."
And as for me,
I made up my mind back in Chelsea,
When I go, I'm going like Elsie.
Start by admitting
From cradle to tomb
Isn't that long a stay.
Life is a Cabaret, old chum,
Only a Cabaret, old chum,
And I love a Cabaret!
