A royalty is a payment made by one party (the "licensee") to another that owns a particular asset (the "licensor") for the right to ongoing use of that asset. Royalties are typically agreed upon as a percentage of gross or net revenues derived from the use of an asset or a fixed price per unit sold of an item of such, but there are also other modes and metrics of compensation. A royalty interest is the right to collect a stream of future royalty payments.
A license agreement defines the terms under which a resource or property are licensed by one party to another, either without restriction or subject to a limitation on term, business or geographic territory, type of product, etc. License agreements can be regulated, particularly where a government is the resource owner, or they can be private contracts that follow a general structure. However, certain types of franchise agreements have comparable provisions.
A landowner with petroleum or mineral rights to their property may license to another party rights to extract those resources in exchange for a resource rent, or a royalty on the value of the resources sold. When a government owns the resource in question, the transaction is often subject to legal and regulatory requirements.
De La Soul is an American hip hop trio formed in 1987 on Long Island, New York. The band is best known for their eclectic sampling, quirky lyrics, and their contributions to the evolution of the jazz rap and alternative hip hop subgenres. The members are Posdnuos, Dave and Maseo. The three formed the group in high school and caught the attention of producer Prince Paul with a demo tape of the song "Plug Tunin'". With its playful wordplay, innovative sampling, and witty skits, the band's debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising, has been called "a hip hop masterpiece."
It is the band's biggest commercial success to date, with their subsequent albums selling progressively less, despite receiving high praise from critics. They were influential in the early stages of rapper/actor Mos Def's career, and are a core part of the Spitkicker collective. They are the second longest standing Native Tongues Posse group, after the Jungle Brothers. In 2006, the group won a Grammy for their collaboration with Gorillaz on the single "Feel Good Inc."
Christopher Maurice "Chris" Brown (born May 5, 1989) is an American singer, dancer, rapper and actor. Born in Tappahannock, Virginia, he was involved in his church choir and several local talent shows from a young age. Having signed with Jive Records in 2004, Brown released his self-titled debut studio album the following year. It peaked at number two on the US Billboard 200 and was later certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). With his first single "Run It!" peaking atop the US Billboard Hot 100, Brown became the first male artist as a lead since Diddy in 1997 to have his debut single top the chart. His second album Exclusive (2007) spawned his second Hot 100 number one "Kiss Kiss", in addition to "With You" and "Forever". The album was also certified double platinum by the RIAA.
In 2009, Brown received much media attention after pleading guilty to felony assault of his then girlfriend, singer Rihanna; he was sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community service. His third album Graffiti was released later that year, and included the top-twenty single "I Can Transform Ya". Brown's fourth album F.A.M.E. (2011) became his first to top the Billboard 200; it spawned the successful singles "Yeah 3x", "Look at Me Now", and "Beautiful People". F.A.M.E. earned Brown his first Grammy Award for Best R&B Album at the 54th Grammy Awards. His fifth album Fortune was released in 2012. However, after the release of Exclusive, Brown's albums have not been well received commercially or by music critics, with the exception of X, which received a normalized rating of 63. Brown's seventh studio album Royalty was released on December 18, 2015.
Anthony Ray (born August 12, 1963), better known by his stage name Sir Mix-a-Lot, is an American rapper and producer based in Seattle, Washington.
Anthony Ray was born on August 12, 1963 in Seattle, Washington. He was a fan of hip hop growing up and started rapping in the early 1980s.
In 1983, Sir Mix-a-Lot and his partner, Nasty Nes, founded the Nastymix record label. Mix-a-Lot's first hit, released in 1987, was the single "Posse on Broadway," whose title referred to Broadway in Seattle's Capitol Hill district. The "Godzilla" remix of "Posse on Broadway" contained a sample from David Bowie's 1975 hit "Fame," but neither the album version nor the original seven-inch edit, which was used for the video, used the Bowie sample. The song made the Top 100 but quickly disappeared, although it remains popular in the Seattle area for its references to many local landmarks.
Swass, Mix-a-Lot's debut album, was released in 1988 with two other singles: "Square-Dance Rap" and a hip hop cover of the Black Sabbath song "Iron Man" backed by the band Metal Church. In 1990, the Recording Industry Association of America certified Swass platinum.
McNally Smith music business instructor Dave Olsen talks about how artists & songwriters get paid: royalties.
http://www.vladtv.com - Legendary entertainer Sir Mix-a-Lot opened up to VladTV about the importance of publishing for artists, calling it "long money." He explained that a lot of artists get caught up in the joys of the royalty check at the beginning of their career, but Sir Mix-a-Lot broke down why owning your publishing is the best thing to do. The Seattle-born emcee said that he owns about 98% of his publishing, and has used it to recoup money on various projects over the years. He then shared a story about The Pussycat Dolls sampling "Swass" for their track "Don't Cha," which became a big hit. Mix-a-Lot said that he came out on top in the scenario, because he never thought "Swass" would do anything when he put it out.

I wrote this song to let you know that no matter what, you don`t ever need to be someone that you`re not. You don`t need to emulate other people. Who you are is good enough. Sometimes we tend to get wrapped up in so much social media and other people`s lives, or in trying to be the most "popular" and get...
Just push me out the way.
I'm not the one who's going to be your easy break.
This is my home, it was my everything.
Now that it's gone, I'm left here to say:
Just let it go,
be strong, stand up to it and make it happen
You better know.
I couldn't be
the one to finally embrace my fear.
You're in the clear.
Just let it go, I need a barrier.
You need someone to push down.
You need to bury this.
Put it six feet in the ground.
I think therefore I am just a feeble hearted man.
I am not your god, where did we go wrong.
This is not your home. It belongs to me.
This is not your place. I won't set it free.
I won't set it free.
This is not your home. It belongs to me.
This is not your place. I won't set it free.
I'll take it back, don't underestimate me.
You better be waiting 'cause I will be coming for you.
This is not our fate.
You're risking everything.
I won't sit here alone.
For me, just let this go.
Just let it go,
be strong, stand up to it and make it happen
You better know.
I couldn't be
the one to finally embrace my fear.
You're in the clear.
I won't set it free.
Come on.
