The Balkan Peninsula and the Balkans is a peninsula and a cultural area in Southeast Europe with different and disputed borders. The region takes its name from the Balkan Mountains that stretch from the east of Serbia to the Black Sea at the east of Bulgaria.
The Balkans meet the Adriatic Sea on the northwest, Ionian Sea on the southwest, the Mediterranean and Aegean Sea on the south and southeast, and the Black Sea on the east and northeast. The highest point of the Balkans is Mount Musala 2,925 metres (9,596 ft) on the Rila mountain range in Bulgaria.
From Antiquity through the Middle Ages, the Balkan Mountains had been called by the local Thracian name Haemus. According to Greek mythology, the Thracian king Haemus was turned into a mountain by Zeus as a punishment and the mountain has remained with his name. A reverse name scheme has also been suggested. D. Dechev considers that Haemus (Αἷμος) is derived from a Thracian word *saimon, 'mountain ridge'. A third possibility is that "Haemus" (Αἵμος) derives from the Greek word "haema" (αἵμα) meaning 'blood'. The myth relates to a fight between Zeus and the monster/titan Typhon. Zeus injured Typhon with a thunder bolt and Typhon's blood fell on the mountains from which they got their name.

Jordan Ashford is a fictional character from the ABC daytime soap opera General Hospital. The role has been portrayed by Vinessa Antoine since March 17, 2014.
In March 2014, Jordan Ashford arrived in Port Charles upon learning that her son T.J. Ashford (Tequan Richmond) had found himself caught in a mob war between Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Julian Jerome (William deVry). While T.J. and his guardian, Shawn Butler (Sean Blakemore), assured Jordan that T.J. was safe from Julian, Jordan still pressured her son to leave Port Charles with her. When T.J. refused, Jordan decided to remain in Port Charles with her son and took a job working for the Jerome Organization at an art gallery they owned. Shawn warned Jordan to stay away from the Jerome's and when she refused, he threatened to tell T.J. that the reason he had been sent to Port Charles in the first place was because she was serving a two-year prison sentence for dealing drugs. While Jordan attempted to convince Shawn that she had changed, she secretly offered to distribute drugs for Julian that he was running through town. Jordan is eventually arrested as part of a sting operation organized by the Port Charles Police Department, at which time she reveals she is working undercover with the DEA to bring down the Jerome Organization. Jordan confides in Anna Devane of her DEA status and Anna agrees to work with her to reveal the identity of Julian Jerome's boss.
Balkan Express (Serbian: Балкан експрес) is a 1983 Yugoslavian film by director Branko Baletić.
Tableau vivant (plural: tableaux vivants) means "living picture". The term, borrowed from the French language, describes a group of suitably costumed actors or artist's models, carefully posed and often theatrically lit. Throughout the duration of the display, the people shown do not speak or move. The approach thus marries the art forms of the stage with those of painting or photography, and as such it has been of interest to modern photographers. The most recent heyday of the tableau vivant was the 19th century, with virtually nude tableaux vivants or poses plastiques providing a form of erotic entertainment.
Occasionally, a Mass was punctuated with short dramatic scenes and tableaux. They were a major feature of festivities for royal weddings, coronations and royal entries into cities. Often the actors imitated statues, much in the manner of modern street entertainers, but in larger groups, and mounted on elaborate temporary stands along the path of the main procession.

Balkan is a new typeface system that consists of Latin and Cyrillic scripts. The use of Latin and Cyrillic typifies the former Yugoslavian countries, today Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro. The Balkan typeface system is a series of fonts that decodes Latin and Cyrillic; it demystifies, depoliticizes, and reconciles them for the sake of education, tolerance and, above all, communication. Though Balkan is a “font” in the usual sense, it is also capable of translating Croatian Latin into Serbian Cyrillic and vice versa. One could therefore think of it as educational software capable of reconciling discrete scripts. YES says Aral Balkan emphatically in this insightful, inspiring and often hysterically funny talk. Aral Balkan is an experience designer working to change the world through better design. Aral would go so far as to say that he wants to create and experience designs that make us feel like superheroes when we interact with them! Two years in the making, on May 23rd and 24th of 2011, Sarah Small and collaborators mounted a 120-participant Tableau at the former Williamsburg Savings Bank, now known as Skylight One Hanson. Chosen as one of Time Out New York's Top Critic's Picks, and listed in the New York Times, Flavorpill and more, this performance had the attention of many, long before the cast took the stage. Maintaining it's roots in her still photography series, The Delirium Constructions, and already the most ambitious project of her career, in 2011, for the first time, Small explored, within the Tableau Vivant, a specific social phenomenon: the ritual of marriage. With its airs of pageantry and religious rectitude, wedding ceremonies celebrate the most intimate joining of two individuals in the most public sphe...

Last December, I traveled to the Balkans in the winter. I wanted to share my experience and I hope this helps to guide your winter Balkans travel if you are interested in traveling to the Balkans in the winter. I started my trip in the capital of Macedonia, which is called Skopje. I flew there from Barcelona and found a really great flight through Wizz Air for only 35 euro! Macedonia in the winter is so cool and quiet, but still very beautiful despite all the fog in Skopje. I also went to Kosovo and Serbia. Something I didn't say in the video is that you cannot enter Serbia from Kosovo. Serbia does not recognize the Kosovo border because it doesn't recognize it as an independent state. So after I visited Kosovo, I went back to Macedonia and went to Belgrade, Serbia from Skopje. That took ...

Watch more VICE documentaries here: http://bit.ly/VICE-Documentaries As documented in numerous morning-radio parodies of the Beach Boys' "Kokomo," the 1999 War in Kosovo was a grisly, nebulous affair in which the disputed region's Serbian and Albanian populations accused one another of rape, ethnic cleansing, and other sordid atrocities. Thanks to a blow job, the United States decided to get involved, and following an intensive bombing campaign by NATO fighter jets, the situation in Kosovo is now... still fucked.
