Watch: Assad's regime attacked major hospital in Syria

A video published by the Syrian Opposition provides an exceptional glimpse into a brutal attack by the Assad regime on the city of Aleppo, where the bombardment of public buildings is designed to crush the population that is still in the area. In the framework of Assad’s attempts to retake the city of Aleppo, over the last few weeks, the Syrian military has concentrated its efforts on civilian targets including hospitals. Western military experts argue that it is a deliberate strategy and its message is a cruel one: surrender or die. Rare footage from the Syrian Opposition reveals footage of one such bombardment of bombings from the lobby inside a hospital. In a video from the security cameras at the Omar bin Abdul Aziz Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in Aleppo, one can see the terrible footage of the bombing. The patients, families and doctors are fleeing in all directions, trying desperately to find shelter. In this bombing, medical teams and patients were injured. Following the heavy destruction, the hospital stopped functioning. Over the weekend, the Assad regime destroyed six medical centers in Aleppo among them four hospitals for adults, a children’s hospital for boys, and a children’s hospital for girls. In addition, the city’s only blood bank and pathology lab were shut down. All of these medical institutions were shut down completely due to the damage. According to locals, the Syrian regime did not stop there. They sent out snipers to attack people who tried to escape from the hospitals. Aleppo, which is Syria’s largest city to fall to the rebels, has been under siege in recent weeks. The Russian Air Force together with Hezbollah and Iranian Forces have joined the battle to fight with the rebels over the supply pathways into the town. Last July, Aleppo was bombed daily with ground-to-air missiles and explosive barrels; there is now no way to enter into or leave the city. The shelling of hospitals comes alongside the destruction of grain farms, schools, mosques and other facilities. “The goal is to prevent the civilian population from surviving, thus forcing them to become refugees and to surrender to the Police forces,” a French human rights activist stated. According to the reports, there is now only one hospital left in Aleppo that can take care of the sick and injured; there are very limited resources for this hospital. Meanwhile, Reuters reported that the rebels in Aleppo launched an attack in order to reopen supply routes to the city. “We are making rapid progress,” a spokesman for the Free Syrian Army stated.
