Erroneously linked at first as a tribute to Michael Jordan old Emsley A. Laney High School, the Air Jordan 5 "Shanghai Shen" actually celebrates Shanghai's unique standing. Known to many as the "Pearl of the Orient" or "Paris of the East," this vibrant coast city also went by an older designation of "Shen," one which prominently displayed in yellow on AJ5′s lateral side. In reference to the city itself, where modernity seamlessly intersects with traditions, Jordan Brand designers actualized the concept by keeping the upper in the classic black nubuck, while adding a splash of non-conventionalism in the forms of teal light blue and bold yellow to the shoe's midsole. Elaborating on symbolism once again, the color blue represents Shanghai's dependance on water as a port city. Yellow, in the meantime, signifies Huangpu District and the culturally important Luwan neighborhood within it.

Türkiye’nin Şangay Beşlisi içerisinde yer alabileceğini söyleyen Erdoğan, Türkiye’nin “Benim için varsa, yoksa AB” görüşünde olmaması gerektiğini belirtti. Erdoğan; “Mesela, “Şanghay 5’lisi içerisinde niye olmayalım?” Şanghay 5’lisinin içerisinde olanlara da söyledim. Başlangıçta 5 ülkenin kurduğu birliğe daha sonra Özbekistan, Pakistan gibi girdi. İran da istiyor. Putin, “Değerlendiriyoruz” dedi. Türkiye’nin Şanghay 5’lisi içerisinde yer alması, bu konuda çok daha rahat hareket etmesini sağlayacaktır.” açıklamasında bulundu.
ŞANGHAY 5’LİSİ (ŞANGAY BEŞLİSİ) NEDİR?
1996 yılında, Çin’in Şanghay kentinde, Rusya, Çin, Kazakistan, Kırgızistan ve Tacikistan’ın katılımıyla, ‘Şanghay Beşlisi’ adını alan ve bölgesel güvenlik alanında derin işbirliğini öngören oluşum ortaya çıktı.
2001 yılında, Özbekistan’ın da katılımıyla, üye sayısı altıya yükselirken, oluşumun adı da, Şanghay İşbirliği Örgütü (ŞİÖ) olarak değişti. Örgüt, özellikle 2000’li yılların ortalarından itibaren, ABD’nin bölgedeki askeri varlığına karşı tavırlar ortaya koyarken, örgüt üyesi ülkelerin liderlerinin yaptıkları açıklamalar, örgütün bölgesel güvenlik konusunun dışında, ‘tek kutuplu dünya düzenine’ karşı bir alternatif olmaya yöneldiği değerlendirmelerini güçlendirdi. Türkiye, geçtiğimiz yıllarda, ŞİÖ’ye, Diyalog Ortağı olarak katıldı.
HİNDİSTAN VE PAKİSTAN DA DAHİL OLDU
2015 yılında Rusya'ya bağlı Başkurdistan Cumhuriyeti'nde düzenlen Şangay İşbirliği Örgütü (Shanghai Cooperation Organization -SCO) liderler zirvesinde konuşan Rusya Devlet Başkanı Vladimir Putin; "Bugünkü zirveyle, örgütün gelişiminde yeni bir dönem başlıyor. SCO kurulduğundan bu yana ilk kez Hindistan ve Pakistan için yeni üye kabul prosedürü başlatılıyor" demişti. Vladimir Putin, Hindistan ve Pakistan'ın katılımıyla Şangay İşbirliği Örgütü'nün gelişiminde yeni bir dönemin başladığını söylemişti.
Örgütün yeni üyeleri olan Hindistan ve Pakistan daha önce gözlemci ülke statüsünde yer alıyordu. Türkiye ise yeni katılacak ülkeler (Azerbaycan, Ermenistan, Kamboçya, Nepal) yanında Sri Lanka ile birlikte diyalog ortağı statüsünde bulunuyor.

Shanghai
Shanghai is the largest Chinese city by population and the largest city proper by population in the world. It is one of the four direct-controlled municipalities of China, with a population of more than 24 million as of 2014. It is a global financial center, and a transport hub with the world's busiest container port. Located in the Yangtze River Delta in East China, Shanghai sits on the south edge of the mouth of the Yangtze in the middle portion of the Chinese coast. The municipality borders the provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang to the north, south and west, and is bounded to the east by the East China Sea.
For centuries a major administrative, shipping, and trading town, Shanghai grew in importance in the 19th century due to European recognition of its favorable port location and economic potential. The city was one of five forced open to foreign trade following the British victory over China in the First Opium War while the subsequent 1842 Treaty of Nanking and 1844 Treaty of Whampoa allowed the establishment of the Shanghai International Settlement and the French Concession. The city then flourished as a center of commerce between east and west, and became the undisputed financial hub of the Asia Pacific in the 1930s. However, with the Communist Party takeover of the mainland in 1949, trade was reoriented to focus on socialist countries, and the city's global influence declined. In the 1990s, the economic reforms introduced by Deng Xiaoping resulted in an intense re-development of the city, aiding the return of finance and foreign investment to the city.

Shanghai SIPG F.C.
Shanghai SIPG F.C. (Chinese: 上海上港; pinyin: Shànghǎi Shànggǎng) is a professional football club that currently participates in the Chinese Super League under licence from the Chinese Football Association (CFA). The team is based in Xuhui, Shanghai and their home stadium is the Shanghai Stadium that has a seating capacity of 56,842. Their owners are the Chinese group Shanghai International Port (Group) and "SIPG" is an abbreviation of their name.
The club was founded on December 25, 2005 as Shanghai Dongya F.C. by former Chinese international football coach Xu Genbao. The club would use graduates from Genbao Football Base, a football academy also founded by Xu to form their first team as they made their debut in the third tier of China's football league pyramid in the 2006 league season. They would work their way up to the top tier and the highest position they have ever finished is second in the 2015 Chinese Super League season.

On May 16, 2000 former Chinese international football coach Xu Genbao founded the Genbao Football Base and enrolled 96 academy members born between 1988 and 1991, who were to be trained in the recently built Genbao Football Base Arena.

Chinese Super League
The Chinese Football Association Super League (Chinese: 中国足球协会超级联赛; pinyin: Zhōngguó Zúqiú Xiéhuì Chāojí Liánsài), commonly known as Chinese Super League (中超联赛) or CSL, currently known as the Ping Ping Chinese Football Association Super League for sponsorship reasons, is the highest tier of professional association football in China, operating under the auspices of the Chinese Football Association.
The Chinese Super League was created by the rebranding of the former top division Chinese Football Association Jia-A League in 2004. (see Chinese Jia-A League, not to be confused with Chinese Football Association Jia League, which is the current second tier league.)
Originally contested by 12 teams in the inaugural year, the league has been expanding. There are 16 teams in the current season. The title has been won by seven teams: Shanghai Shenhua, Shenzhen Jianlibao, Dalian Shide, Shandong Luneng, Changchun Yatai, Beijing Guoan, and Guangzhou Evergrande. The current Super League champions are Guangzhou Evergrande.

Super League
Super League, officially the First Utility Super League for sponsorship reasons, is the top-level professional rugby league club competition in Europe. The league has twelve teams: eleven from England and one from France. The current champions are Leeds Rhinos.
Super League began in 1996, replacing the RFL Championship and switching from a winter to a summer season. Each team plays 23 games between February and July: 11 home games, 11 away games and a Magic Weekend game at a neutral venue. At the end of the season, the top eight teams enter a Super 8 stage, playing each other once more. The top four then enter the play-off series leading to the Grand Final (formerly Championship Final) which determines the champions.
The Super League champions play the National Rugby League (NRL) champions from Australasia in the World Club Challenge.
History
1996–2001: Establishment
The competition was first mooted during the Australian Super League war as a way for Rupert Murdoch to gain the upper hand during the battle for broadcasting supremacy with the Australian Rugby League. Murdoch also approached the British clubs to form Super League. A large sum of money aided the decision, and the competition got under way in 1996. Known to many as the "Pearl of the Orient" or "Paris of the East," this vibrant coast city also went by an older designation of "Shen," one which prominently displayed in yellow on AJ5′s lateral side. In reference to the city itself, where modernity seamlessly intersects with traditions, Jordan Brand designers actualized the concept by keeping the upper in the classic black nubuck, while adding a splash of non-conventionalism in the forms of teal light blue and bold yellow to the shoe's midsole. Elaborating on symbolism once again, the color blue represents Shanghai's dependance on water as a port city. Yellow, in the meantime, signifies Huangpu District and the culturally important Luwan neighborhood within it.

Erdoğan; “Mesela, “Şanghay 5’lisi içerisinde niye olmayalım?” Şanghay 5’lisinin içerisinde olanlara da söyledim. Başlangıçta 5 ülkenin kurduğu birliğe daha sonra Özbekistan, Pakistan gibi girdi. İran da istiyor. Putin, “Değerlendiriyoruz” dedi. Türkiye’nin Şanghay 5’lisi içerisinde yer alması, bu konuda çok daha rahat hareket etmesini sağlayacaktır.” açıklamasında bulundu.
ŞANGHAY 5’LİSİ (ŞANGAY BEŞLİSİ) NEDİR?
1996 yılında, Çin’in Şanghay kentinde, Rusya, Çin, Kazakistan, Kırgızistan ve Tacikistan’ın katılımıyla, ‘Şanghay Beşlisi’ adını alan ve bölgesel güvenlik alanında derin işbirliğini öngören oluşum ortaya çıktı.
2001 yılında, Özbekistan’ın da katılımıyla, üye sayısı altıya yükselirken, oluşumun adı da, Şanghay İşbirliği Örgütü (ŞİÖ) olarak değişti. Örgüt, özellikle 2000’li yılların ortalarından itibaren, ABD’nin bölgedeki askeri varlığına karşı tavırlar ortaya koyarken, örgüt üyesi ülkelerin liderlerinin yaptıkları açıklamalar, örgütün bölgesel güvenlik konusunun dışında, ‘tek kutuplu dünya düzenine’ karşı bir alternatif olmaya yöneldiği değerlendirmelerini güçlendirdi. Türkiye, geçtiğimiz yıllarda, ŞİÖ’ye, Diyalog Ortağı olarak katıldı.
HİNDİSTAN VE PAKİSTAN DA DAHİL OLDU
2015 yılında Rusya'ya bağlı Başkurdistan Cumhuriyeti'nde düzenlen Şangay İşbirliği Örgütü (Shanghai Cooperation Organization -SCO) liderler zirvesinde konuşan Rusya Devlet Başkanı Vladimir Putin; "Bugünkü zirveyle, örgütün gelişiminde yeni bir dönem başlıyor. SCO kurulduğundan bu yana ilk kez Hindistan ve Pakistan için yeni üye kabul prosedürü başlatılıyor" demişti. Vladimir Putin, Hindistan ve Pakistan'ın katılımıyla Şangay İşbirliği Örgütü'nün gelişiminde yeni bir dönemin başladığını söylemişti.
Örgütün yeni üyeleri olan Hindistan ve Pakistan daha önce gözlemci ülke statüsünde yer alıyordu. Türkiye ise yeni katılacak ülkeler (Azerbaycan, Ermenistan, Kamboçya, Nepal) yanında Sri Lanka ile birlikte diyalog ortağı statüsünde bulunuyor.

ŞANGHAY 5’LİSİ (ŞANGAY BEŞLİSİ) NEDİR?
1996 yılında, Çin’in Şanghay kentinde, Rusya, Çin, Kazakistan, Kırgızistan ve Tacikistan’ın katılımıyla, ‘Şanghay Beşlisi’ adını alan ve bölgesel güvenlik alanında derin işbirliğini öngören oluşum ortaya çıktı.
2001 yılında, Özbekistan’ın da katılımıyla, üye sayısı altıya yükselirken, oluşumun adı da, Şanghay İşbirliği Örgütü (ŞİÖ) olarak değişti. Örgüt, özellikle 2000’li yılların ortalarından itibaren, ABD’nin bölgedeki askeri varlığına karşı tavırlar ortaya koyarken, örgüt üyesi ülkelerin liderlerinin yaptıkları açıklamalar, örgütün bölgesel güvenlik konusunun dışında, ‘tek kutuplu dünya düzenine’ karşı bir alternatif olmaya yöneldiği değerlendirmelerini güçlendirdi. Türkiye, geçtiğimiz yıllarda, ŞİÖ’ye, Diyalog Ortağı olarak katıldı.
HİNDİSTAN VE PAKİSTAN DA DAHİL OLDU
2015 yılında Rusya'ya bağlı Başkurdistan Cumhuriyeti'nde düzenlen Şangay İşbirliği Örgütü (Shanghai Cooperation Organization -SCO) liderler zirvesinde konuşan Rusya Devlet Başkanı Vladimir Putin; "Bugünkü zirveyle, örgütün gelişiminde yeni bir dönem başlıyor. SCO kurulduğundan bu yana ilk kez Hindistan ve Pakistan için yeni üye kabul prosedürü başlatılıyor" demişti. Vladimir Putin, Hindistan ve Pakistan'ın katılımıyla Şangay İşbirliği Örgütü'nün gelişiminde yeni bir dönemin başladığını söylemişti.
Örgütün yeni üyeleri olan Hindistan ve Pakistan daha önce gözlemci ülke statüsünde yer alıyordu. Türkiye ise yeni katılacak ülkeler (Azerbaycan, Ermenistan, Kamboçya, Nepal) yanında Sri Lanka ile birlikte diyalog ortağı statüsünde bulunuyor.

The long way to bangkok Trailer
First attempt at a trailer for the video of "the long way to Bangkok." I decided to make a few trailers just to give me a chance to practice before I go ahead and make the real thing - and to check all my software and hardware can cope with the HD video content. I'm off to the countryside tomorrow to do some Muay Thai for a couple of weeks so won't have another chance to practice for a little while - but will get to work on some more light hearted trailers! I hope this trailer conveys some of the epic scenes we encountered on our journey to Bangkok. The map is a bit blurred I know...need to find a higher res map so If anyone has one... This is the second in a short series of videos documenting our October 2015 tour of China with the Road Scholar company. It's been about a year since I sent out “Part 1: Sightseeing” but it's been a busy year full of domestic travel and video documentation of those events. “Road Scholars in China, Part 2: Transportation” is a 13 minute short film and is in full HD so it is best viewed on a large screen – or at least something larger than a smartphone. Shanghai literally means 'on top of the sea' in Chinese and with 23 million people it is currently the biggest city in China. The map below has a list of all the best places in Shanghai of which some have a dedicated article and video.
Prices in Shanghai are very affordable, a large bowl of delicious noodles with braised pork and vegetables will cost you less than $2 thus you can comfortably live on $10 budget per day.
The skyline of Shanghai was shaped in less than 26 years, and even holds landmarks like the Jin Mao tower, World Financial Center and Shanghai Tower, world's second tallest building at 632 meters.
Watch the breathtaking view of Shanghai's business district (Pudong) while standing on the Bund, especially at night when all the neon lights come on. For a great observatory view I recommend Flair restaurant on top of the Ritz-Carlton which is FREE to enter.
My favorite way to explore Shanghai was during my daily jogs. I recommend starting on Nanjing Road and make your way to People's Park, especially during the weekend since you may find yourself running into the Shanghai Wedding Market. At which Parents of unmarried adults go to the park every weekend, from noon to 5pm, to trade information on their kids.
China, being a communist country, I've never seen such a large gap between rich and poor. This was one of the last places, after North-Korea, where I would expect to see such a huge income gap. I made a few Chinese friends during my stay in Shanghai, we all went for duck feet dinner on Nanjing Road and a few drinks at Sir Elly's on top of the Peninsula hotel which honestly is the most incredible rooftop bar in Shanghai. A must-see if you ever decide to visit Shanghai!
Shanghai has a strong French influence which you can explore at the French Concession area in the Xintiandi district, one of the most luxury areas of the city. Surprisingly, I visited Shanghai during fashion week and Octoberfest, if there is on time to go it is visiting Shanghai around this time due to all the events being thrown around the city.
Now my most important tip is ExpressVPN, China has a very strict internet policy, because they cannot control information on Google, Facebook, Gmail, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram, thus they decided to ban it altogether. The ExpressVPN app has a 30-day free trial and allows you to establish a secure private connection with an offshore server so you can still access the apps and sites you want while staying in China. This is extremely helpful if you relay on Google Maps to navigate you around, even without - don't be discouraged to visit Shanghai, it was one of the most amazing experiences I've had. I stayed in Shanghai for quite a bit to bring you places like Flair, Yu Garden, French Concession, Pudong, Xintiandi, Shanghai Nightlife and how to cheat China's internet ban. Featuring all must-see locations!
Shanghai literally means 'on top of the sea' in Chinese and with 23 million people it is currently the biggest city in China. The map below has a list of all the best places in Shanghai of which some have a dedicated article and video.
Prices in Shanghai are very affordable, a large bowl of delicious noodles with braised pork and vegetables will cost you less than $2 thus you can comfortably live on $10 budget per day.
The skyline of Shanghai was shaped in less than 26 years, and even holds landmarks like the Jin Mao tower, World Financial Center and Shanghai Tower, world's second tallest building at 632 meters.
Watch the breathtaking view of Shanghai's business district (Pudong) while standing on the Bund, especially at night when all the neon lights come on. For a great observatory view I recommend Flair restaurant on top of the Ritz-Carlton which is FREE to enter.
My favorite way to explore Shanghai was during my daily jogs. I recommend starting on Nanjing Road and make your way to People's Park, especially during the weekend since you may find yourself running into the Shanghai Wedding Market. At which Parents of unmarried adults go to the park every weekend, from noon to 5pm, to trade information on their kids.
China, being a communist country, I've never seen such a large gap between rich and poor. This was one of the last places, after North-Korea, where I would expect to see such a huge income gap. It was once referred to as 'The Whore of Asia', 'Capital of Crime', 'the Paris of the East' and 'The Centre of Maoism'. But today, the city is ruled by modern-thinking communists and the Yangzi Delta is not only China's largest port but also its new shining star of capitalism.
The Oriental Pearl Tower is a mighty 468 metre high television tower that contains an entertainment centre, futuristic luxury hotel, fine restaurant and offers the most superb views across the city.
In the centre of the city's labyrinth-like shopping alleys a zigzag bridge extends across a small pond to a famous tea house. The bridge was designed in order to fend off evil spirits who, it was believed, could walk only in a straight line!
Located in the countryside, Suzhou is above all famous for its gardens. The 'Garden of the Policy of the Common People' is one of China's four most famous gardens. The complex was built between 1522 and 1566 at the command of an important mandarin and designed according to his wishes.
South of Suzhou is Zhou Zhuang, that is said to have been the first water village in China. A journey on its canals is certainly worthwhile, as the surrounding area is covered with thousands of canals and rivers and where many villages in the area are only accessible by boat.
Shanghai and its surrounding area has now freed itself from its early growing pains and from the restrictions imposed by Chairman Mao and today enjoys the rich rewards of capitalism.

We traveled to Shanghai, China and visited People's Square, ate delicious Chinese street food all day and booked a room in a hostel - all for less than 20 dollars (130 RMB)!

Cost to travel Shanghai for the day:
Meals:
For breakfast, I bought two baozi buns for 3 RMB (1.5 RMB apiece). After that, I bought pineapple on a stick from a roadside vendor for 5 RMB.
For lunch, I ate at Yang’s Fried Dumplings, a famous chain that serves up amazing Sheng Jian Bao. That meal cost me 8 RMB.
For dinner, I ate YangZhou fried rice (18 RMB) and had a beer (12 RMB), which totaled out to 30 RMB.
Transportation:
As far as transportation goes, the underground public transit system (the Metro) is connected to virtually every part of the city and you can travel from one end of the city to another for less than a dollar. Throughout the day, I only spent 6 RMB ($1) on transportation!
Accommodation:
A standard dorm room bed at the Shanghai City Central Youth Hostel cost me 70 RMB.
Total cost today:
123 RMB ($19)

The Bund
The Huangpu river is the divide between the eastern Pudong district and western Huangpu district. On the Bund, you'll find a spectacular view of the familiar Shanghai skyline on the opposite western riverbank.
Nanjing walking street
This long street is closed off to cars and decked out with shops and vendors selling stuff you never even knew you wanted. What Khao San Road is to Bangkok, Nanjing Lu is to Shanghai.
Yu garden
After experiencing the crowds and intensity of Nanjing Lu, visiting Yuyuan Garden will ease your nerves. For 40 RMB, you can buy a ticket to tranquility in a more than 400-year-old lush 5-acre garden.
French Concession
This area of the Huangpu District is so western that I almost forgot I was in China. Trendy cafes, restaurants and bars line the streets with patios under urban treetop canopies.
Tianzifang
Tianzifang is a lively marketplace within a maze of tight alleyways loaded with tiny boutique shops, art galleries and cozy restaurants.
More Than Toilet
Hidden within Tianzifang lies one restaurant that's so odd and interesting, I had to stop in to check it out for myself. More Than Toilet is a restaurant where you can eat pancakes, ice-cream and coffee off of bathroom tableware while sitting on a cushioned commode.
World Financial Observatory
To the east of the Huangpu river is the Pudong District, which is hardly China as much as it is an Asian reflection of New York city. Here you can visit the 474-meter-tall observatory for a dizzying view of the city (if it's not too smoggy outside).
Din Tai Fung
After visiting the observatory, stay in the World Financial Center and drop down to the 3rd floor for some grub in Din Tai Fung. This restaurant serves the most juicy, delicious dumplings I've ever had the pleasure of digesting.
Known dually as the 'Paris of the East' and the 'Whore of the Orient,' Shanghai is a city where east meets west in a clash of modernity and ancient society. The crowds, the food, and the familiar skyline drew me in like a moth to a flame. I was only there for a few days, but I tried to capture some cool spots that every out-of-towner should check out during a visit to China's financial and artistic epicenter.

I decided to make a few trailers just to give me a chance to practice before I go ahead ...
First attempt at a trailer for the video of "the long way to Bangkok."
I decided to make a few trailers just to give me a chance to practice before I go ahead and make the real thing - and to check all my software and hardware can cope with the HD video content. I'm off to the countryside tomorrow to do some Muay Thai for a couple of weeks so won't have another chance to practice for a little while - but will get to work on some more light hearted trailers! I hope this trailer conveys some of the epic scenes we encountered on our journey to Bangkok.
The map is a bit blurred I know...need to find a higher res map so If anyone has one...
All video content straight from the camera - always learning new things about video...I already wish I had taken more footage and used a higher contrast setting. Its all practice though and the videos are just going to get better and better!
June 14th 2010, three students and one full time worker were about to embark on a huge adventure. Myself, David Schulte, Sasirapa Charlanawat and Wei Tang had decided to go to Thailand from London by land. We were going to use buses, local drivers, trains, boats and a good pair walking boots to get us to our final destination of Bangkok by the 4th August 2010.
It took a few months of planning due to the mass of required visas and the coordination of dates that are associated with time restricted travel. The route developed naturally - or shall I say, I wanted as tough a route as possible and to get away from all commercial tourism.
It was originally just myself who planned to take on this trip and infact, my class mates laughed when they first heard my plan. Little did they know that several months later they would be sitting on a three day bus journey through the heart of Mongolia. After hearing an urge to travel from my good friend Dave, I invited him along for the ride.
The rough plan was to head quickly through Europe by train torwards Moscow. We would spend a few days in Moscow before getting a train to Novosibirsk which was around 50 hours away from Moscow. This is where my desire for tough travel started to kick in. It is a fairly simple task to ride a train from Moscow to Ulaanbaatar directly and this is what most tourists do. Not satisfied with that, I found some information on other routes into Mongolia, primarily through the Altai region. There wasn't so much information available on the net and pretty much zero information in the guide books so I thought this would be the right route for Sam Spicer. I sent a few emails to the UK embassy in Mongolia to check up on the border crossings and whether they were still open. Upon recieving a reply from the embassy the route was decided. We would get off at Novosibirsk, catch a bus down to Barnaul where we would then find a local guide and his jeep to take us down through the Altai Republic heading torwards the Mongolian Border. Once at Kosh Agach (a small market town before the strictly controlled border area) we would need to hitch a ride over the border into Mongolia. Ofcourse this was all a bit unpredictable but thats how I like to travel. The back up plan would be to back track back to Novosibirsk and wait for a train direct to Ulaanbaatar.
Next up we would have to catch a bus or hire a vehicle to take us from Western Mongolia to Ulaanbaatar, the capital city. We planned to stay a whole week in Ulaanbaatar so we would be there for the Naadam games which was quite an experience to say the least. We had reserved train tickets for the Mongolia - Beijing train leaving on the 16th July knowing full well a lot of Naadam festival tourists would be taking the same route.
After Beijing, Shanghai was next on the list followed by a train right across China into Yunnan province. From the city of Kunming we would make our way down by bus to the Mekong river to catch a special boat which goes directly to Thailand (Via laos and Burma without the need for visas). The original plan was to be in Thailand by the first of August to meet with my Thai teacher who lives in Chiang Mai. Not all went to plan, but I'll let you read the photo descriptions for an explanation.
The final leg would be a simple overnight train down from Chiang Mai to Bangkok where we would send Dave off to the airport back to sunny England...or maybe to be a dog sledge racer in Alaska (A slight development mid trip).
Not all went to plan but it was an amazing trip. Dave, Sasi and Vivien had not travelled like this before and did really well making it through some of the tougher parts of the journey. Even Sam Spicer himself was struggling on the three day bus journey.
I am intending to send this link to the various emails of people I met along the way so I'd like to take this opportunity to say;
Thanks to everyone we met along the trip, you all made it a truely magical and memorable trip and it is not something I will be forgetting in a hurry.

This is the second in a short series of videos documenting our October 2015 tour of China with the Road Scholar company. It's been about a year since I sent out “Part 1: Sightseeing” but it's been a busy year full of domestic travel and video documentation of those events.
“Road Scholars in China, Part 2: Transportation” is a 13 minute short film and is in full HD so it is best viewed on a large screen – or at least something larger than a smartphone.
Tech stuff: I shot this in a mix of HD and 4k using a Panasonic GH4 camera (and occasionally my iPhone 6!), and several Panasonic lenses including the 12-35mm f2.8 zoom. Audio was recorded primarily with a Rode VideoMic Pro but I also used the built-in camera mics at times and a Zoom H1 hand-held recorder. Adobe applications PremierePro, AfterEffects, Audition, and Photoshop were all used in postproduction.

“Aibogae” by Byungki Hwang, from the “Music From the Heart • Melody” CD

With little more than two backpacks, a camera, and a tarp, Mandarin-speaking American brother and sister Nate and Mary Kate Tate traveled more than 9,700 miles throughout China to share the country's inspiring culture and cuisine with kitchens in the West. What began as a travelblog (feedingthedragon.com) documenting the duo's journey has evolved into a visual narrative of food, culture, and travel inside Feeding the Dragon.
Arranged by the authors' travel itinerary to highlight the uniqueness of nine specific regions in China, Feeding the Dragon is part cookbook and part cultural travelogue, overflowing with sumptuous but easily prepared authentic dishes. From Buddhist vegetarian dishes enjoyed on the snowcapped mountains of Tibet to lamb kebabs served on the scorching desert of Xinjiang Province, one hundred recipes are presented alongside first-person narratives and travel photographs.
Western cooks will find healthy recipes brimming with authentic ingredients and flavors, such as Lychee Martini and Shanghai Soup Dumplings, Pineapple Rice, Coca-Cola Chicken Wings, Green Tea Shortbread Cookies, and Wild Mushroom Salad. Feeding the Dragon also provides handy reference sidebars to guide cooks with time-saving shortcuts such as buying premade dumpling wrappers instead of making them from scratch, or using a blow-dryer to finish your Peking Duck. A comprehensive glossary of Chinese ingredients and their equivalent substitutions complete the book. Feeding the Dragon is not an Americanized adulteration of classic Chinese cuisine. Instead, the Tates offer readers and cooks a beautiful journey through Chinese history, culture, tradition, and food.
