Seoul undertakes the mutations that make it a city of the XXIst century, where the man lives in a harmonious environment and where the dynamic management assures the multiplication of the parklands. Next to this recovered nature, an artificial nature comes to life at dusk: it is the Fractal Flowers. These gigantic fractal flowers are made up of different colors, of shapes and are generated endlessly, thanks to software of Cyrille Henry. Intended on the embankments of the Cheonggyecheon River, these gigantic virtual plants proliferate on the surface of the stone. These are the autonomous virtual seeds that are born uncertainly, that grow, bloom and disappear to leave place for the others. We are here in a half-plant universe, half-mineral, constituted of filarial structures that recall the facets of a diamond. These fractal flowers have a real monumentality with their geometric shapes and at the same time have an evanescent aspect. These flowers bend themselves as if to make a reverence to the walker and to welcome him/her in the potentiality of this intriguing garden. They react to our movements. In their own special generative and chromatic language, they dialogue with us. They answer us. They also question us by their unusual apparition and disappearance. These new "flowers" of Miguel Chevalier came out of the plant to embrace the cosmic. And we contemplate them, amazed by this fractal anatomy that unites the beauty and the fragility and it celebrates this union by an explosion of color...

Over the 4th of July weekend tens of thousands of music lovers descended upon the Double JJ Ranch in Western Michigan for the Electric Forest Music Festival. The festival rose from the ashes of the Rothbury Festival that was held on the same site in 2008 and 2009 and Electric Forest had a tough act to follow. Those who attended the past Rothbury events deemed the venue one of the best festival settings and many were disappointed when last year’s Rothbury was not held. This year long-running jam band The String Cheese Incident recreated the festival as theirs and headlined the final three nights. The lineup featured many well-known acts in the laid back style of SCI, but at night the intensity was turned up a notch with a slew of young electronic acts such as Bassnectar, Skrillex, and Pretty Lights.

Duckumentary 44.7ºN, 178.1ºE (Part 1) (2008) A film by Patrick Gofre and Marga Houtman, 2008, 42 mn 48 s. When, in 2003, visual artist Marga Houtman read a newspaper report about the fate of thousands of plastic toy ducks lost overboard in 1992 during a storm on the Pacific, she became both fascinated and compassionate. In 2005 she created the Mother Duck, a gigantic plastic duck 2.5 metres in length, that sets out to find her children. Patrick Gofre (visual artist and filmmaker) and Marga Houtman filmed the quest. Among other places, they landed in Cornwall where – just as along the Dutch coast – people expect that in the near future some of the plastic ducks that were shipwrecked in 1992 will come ashore. The adventurous journey made by the little ducks over the world’s seas had also awakened the interest of oceanographers, since any ducks that might come ashore could help to map the ocean currents. In addition to the search carried out on beaches and on the sea, the biggest duck race in the world was also visited, and a number of scientists had burning questions put to them, such as: what is the origin of the plastic duck as a bath time toy? Where do the warm feelings come from that a toy duck calls up in young and old? It is not just Gofre and Houtman who are fascinated by the phenomenon of the plastic duck: the public was captivated everywhere the artists turned up with the mother duck. And then you have the collectors. One of them said that the plastic ducks help him in the struggle against ageing and conformity. This film demonstrates more than clearly that the plastic duck is not just a children’s toy.

Intro: We started our client-agency relationship with the festival in 2008, and in 2014 Scandinavia’s largest city festival turned 30 years. The grand party took place in August and roughly 1.4 million people visited the festival over 8 consecutive days. Solution: We wanted Malmöfestivalen to be able to celebrate in style. Therefore we created the largest physical graphic identity the world has ever seen, a gigantic physical art installation measuring 13x8 meters, enabling the visitors to interact, climb and jump on it. To produce the identity we used 10 000 nails, 175 litres of paint, 280 plywood sheets, 14 people during 900 hours, and we rented a skylift to photograph it 30 meters up in the air. 2014 graphic identity for Malmofestivalen has been featured in hundreds of articles around the globe – AdWeek, Creative Review, HOW Design and many more. The praise from visitors in the streets and from the global creative community has exceeded all our expectations.

JR exhibits his work freely, in streets around the world. His work combines art with action, expressing commitment, freedom, identity and constraints. For the past year, as part of his WOMEN project, JR has been involved in a large-scale event in the oldest favela (shanty town) of Rio de Janeiro. In August 2008, some 20 gigantic portraits of women living in the favela were pasted on more than 40 houses (see http://www.jr-art.net ). For the first time, it was art and culture that put Morro da Providência in the headlines: it has had the reputation of being the most dangerous favela in Rio. In April 2009, JR returned to Brazil to organise a major exhibition both in the streets of Rio and a local museum. For him, the journey was above all a chance to return and see the people living in Morro da Providência, and to finalise a project on which he had been working for several months: this was the opening of the "Casa Amarela" (Yellow House), a cultural centre for children right in the very heart of the shanty town. The Canon Group, which had contacted JR some while before, offered him support in this seemingly crazy project. Attracted both by JR's artistic initiative and the social and cultural commitment of the project, Canon donated 15 EOS 450D digital SLR cameras and a PIXMA printer to the Casa Amarela, for use by children at the centre. At the end of April, the Casa Amarela finally opened – a space for freedom and creativity where none was left, a space accessible to all inhabitants of the favela, so that art and culture would remain there for ever. In the "Yellow House", a splash of colour on a mountain of concrete, children of the favela now enjoy photography; they held their first exhibition to mark the grand opening on 25 April 2009. JR, to whom Canon lent a prototype of the new EOS 500D Full HD digital SLR, has now brought back this short video that tells the story of the birth of the Casa Amarela.
