Los Angeles (i/lɒs ˈændʒəlᵻs/ loss AN-jə-ləs or loss AN-jə-liss) (Spanish for "The Angels"), officially the City of Los Angeles and often known by its initials L.A., is the second-largest city in the United States after New York City, the most populous city in the state of California, and the county seat of Los Angeles County.
Situated in Southern California, Los Angeles is known for its mediterranean climate, ethnic diversity, sprawling metropolis, and as a major center of the American entertainment industry. Los Angeles lies in a large coastal basin surrounded on three sides by mountains reaching up to and over 10,000 feet (3,000 m).
Historically home to the Chumash and Tongva, Los Angeles was claimed by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo for Spain in 1542 along with the rest of what would become Alta California. The city was officially founded on September 4, 1781, by Spanish governor Felipe de Neve. It became a part of Mexico in 1821 following the Mexican War of Independence. In 1848, at the end of the Mexican–American War, Los Angeles and the rest of California were purchased as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, thereby becoming part of the United States. Los Angeles was incorporated as a municipality on April 4, 1850, five months before California achieved statehood. The city experienced rapid growth with the discovery of oil.
Organic farming is a form of agriculture that relies on techniques such as crop rotation, green manure, compost, and biological pest control. Depending on whose definition is used, organic farming uses fertilizers and pesticides (which include herbicides, insecticides and fungicides) if they are considered natural (such as bone meal from animals or pyrethrin from flowers), but it excludes or strictly limits the use of various methods (including synthetic petrochemical fertilizers and pesticides; plant growth regulators such as hormones; antibiotic use in livestock; genetically modified organisms; human sewage sludge; and nanomaterials) in pursuit of goals including sustainability, openness, independence, health, and safety.
Organic agricultural methods are internationally regulated and legally enforced by many nations, based in large part on the standards set by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM), an international umbrella organization for organic farming organizations established in 1972. The USDA definition as of April 1995 is:

A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Films may be of recent date and, depending upon the festival's focus, can include international and domestic releases. Some festivals focus on a specific film-maker or genre (e.g., film noir) or subject matter (e.g., horror film festivals). A number of film festivals specialise in short films of a defined maximum length. Film festivals are typically annual events. Some film historians do not consider Film Festivals as official releases of film, like Jerry Beck. The best known film festivals are the Venice Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, the Toronto Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival, the latter being the largest film festival worldwide, based on attendance. The Venice Film Festival is the oldest major festival. The Melbourne International Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the oldest in the world. A 2013 study found 3,000 active films festivals worldwide—active defined as having held an event in the previous 24 months.
A farm is an area of land that is devoted primarily to agricultural processes with the primary objective of producing food and other crops; it is the basic facility in food production. The name is used for specialised units such as arable farms, vegetable farms, fruit farms, dairy, pig and poultry farms, and land used for the production of natural fibres, biofuel and other commodities. It includes ranches, feedlots, orchards, plantations and estates, smallholdings and hobby farms, and includes the farmhouse and agricultural buildings as well as the land. In modern times the term has been extended so as to include such industrial operations as wind farms and fish farms, both of which can operate on land or sea.
Farming originated independently in different parts of the world as hunter gatherer societies transitioned to food production rather than food capture. It may have started about 12,000 years ago with the domestication of livestock in the Fertile Crescent in western Asia, soon to be followed by the cultivation of crops. Modern units tend to specialise in the crops or livestock best suited to the region, with their finished products being sold for the retail market or for further processing, with farm products being traded around the world.

Watch and read more here about Urban Farms: http://bit.ly/1KR4fFs Growing one's own food in urban areas can seem like a far-fetched idea. But not for one Pasadena family. The Dervaes family has been growing their own food for more than a decade. They've been at the forefront of urban homesteading by growing thousands of pounds of food annually in an average-size backyard. "I brought the country to the city rather than having to go out to the country," said Jules Dervaes, the man behind the self-sufficient farm he created with his three adult children. The Dervaes' urban homestead is sustainable and dense. They grow and raise 400 varieties of vegetables, fruits, and edible flowers that amount to about 6,000 pounds of food a year, enough to feed the family with surplus left over to sell....
This is an Urban Food Farm that we installed in the back parking lot of the building where I live in Los Angeles. It's only 8x8 foot print but takes over 170 plants. You can see how we installed the greenhouse kit, the greenhouse polycarbonate walls and all the components that go after, the drip irrigation, hydroponic gutters, coco coir growing medium... It took about 2.5 days to install the entire vegetable growing solution. We got some plants brought from the other demo in Santa Barbara. The cilantro, parsley and zucchini suffered a bit during transportation and they waited outside for a few hours while we installed the hydroponic channels and drip irrigation. This is a true city farm. 8x8 footprint small but 64 feet of growing space! The center floor hydroponic gutters offer 24 feet of...

Daily News @ http://RevolutionNews.US ~ VENICE, CA — Raw Food SWAT Police Confiscate Yogurt at Gunpoint... It was an average weekday morning last month at Rawesome Foods in Venice, California when federal, state, and local authorities busted in, guns drawn, looking for an illicit stash of raw milk. Law enforcement at its finest. The Los Angeles Times has the details of the raid, and Rawesome Foods's surveillance video, which shows police entering the premises as if they're busting into a warehouse full of cocaine. The authorities were there to confiscate jugs of raw goat and cow milk, which Rawesome sells to local connoisseurs. One official told the LAT, "This is not about restricting the public's rights. This is about making sure people are safe." Still reeling from the experience, ...

SANTA MONICA (CBS) — The group is called Mercy For Animals...and this animal rights group is known for being in your face. Literally. Thursday night, they set up 80″ large screen TV's on the 3rd Street Promenade and showed the 12-minute documentary film "Farm to Fridge," depicting — in living color — how animals are slaughtered for food. CBS 2 weekend anchor and reporter Rob Schmitt talked to meat lovers and gauged their reaction to the disturbing images. He reported that the images shown were "jarring" to say the least. "The group's goal," he added, "was to change dinner orders in this crowd from burgers to salads." The mission might have worked. Schmitt talked to at least one woman choking back tears for being a meat eater. The Mercy For Animals truck is on a nationwide ...

Go to https://FoodAbundance.com to join the Food Abundance movement. Over 6,000 pounds of food per year, on 1/10 acre located just 15 minutes from downtown Los Angeles. The Dervaes family grows over 400 species of plants, 4,300 pounds of vegetable food, 900 chicken and 1,000 duck eggs, 25 lbs of honey, plus seasonal fruits throughout the year. From 1/10th of an acre, four people manage to get over 90% of their daily food and the family reports earnings of $20,000 per year (AFTER they eat from what is produced). This is done without the use of the expensive & destructive synthetic chemicals associated with industrial mono-cropping, while simultaneously improving the fertility and overall condition of the land being used to grow this food on. Scaled up to an acre, that would equal $2...
This is week 4 of the urban farming project. We brought some plants from the outside to see what it looks like with grown plants. Soon this project will be in full production and supply organic tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries, zucchini, eggplant and many others vegetables, fruit and herbs. The Urban Food Farm is designed for efficiency and simplicity. The maintenance on this 8x12 is only 1.5 hour per week. As you can see, we have not yet installed a water recuperation tank. We have to measure how much fertilizer the water retains and calculate our water recycling rate. We found that even in a city like Los Angeles, lights would help if we really want full production of tomatoes and cucumbers in the winter; they still produce but at a slower rate. We are trying to keep the project as g...

Helen Chavez, widow of civil rights and labor leader Cesar Chavez, has died at age 88. A family statement released through the United Farm Workers says Helen Chavez died Monday at a hospital in Bakersfield, California, surrounded by many of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. No cause of death was given. Born in the town of Brawley in the California desert near the Mexico border, she met Cesar Chavez in the mid-1940s and married him in 1948. In the early 1960s, the couple left a comfortable middle-class existence in East Los Angeles to organize farm workers in California's Central Valley. They had eight children, and Helen Chavez had to care for them alone for long stretches while he was traveling. Cesar Chavez died in Arizona in 1993.

They said you were clever
Let's see what you can do
Cause I never wanted
Wanted to leave it

You said you were leaving
Heading out to the east coast
Cause your heart was bleeding
And people can be so
But you must remember
That it ain't the weather
That's gonna protect you
They will still neglect you
But I'll always love you
Said I've always loved you
(So come on home)
Said I've always loved you
So get back in your car and head west to California
The sun will be shining
And we could be dining by the ocean blue
Cause I never wanted
Wanted to leave
Said I can't believe it
