Larry Lujack (June 6, 1940 – December 18, 2013) was a Top 40 Music radio disc jockey who was well known for his world-weary sarcastic style. "Klunk Letter of the Day", the darkly humorous "Animal Stories" with sidekick "Little Tommy," and the "Cheap Trashy Show Biz Report" were some of his more popular bits. He was also referred to as Superjock, Lawrence of Chicago, Uncle Lar, and King of the Corn Belt.
Lujack initially came to Chicago to work for WCFL-AM. He spent a few months there before being hired at WLS. While at WCFL, Lujack drew the air studio curtains during public visiting hours.
"Animal Stories" came about because WLS was still receiving farm magazines long after they went into Rock and Roll in 1960. Lujack started reading some of them and began airing stories from them instead of reading the grain reports connected with the Farm Report. When the Farm Report was officially discontinued, the feature became Animal Stories. A perfectionist about his work, Lujack would review every word he said on the air after each broadcast by listening to an audio cassette "skimmer" tape which would record only when the microphone was open.
Animal Stories is a British pre-school animated television series. Cartoon Network TOO began airing this program on 5 June 2006. It also aired on Playhouse Disney in the United States from 1999 to 2002. Animal Stories began airing on Tiny Pop in September 2013. The series gained a 2001 Children's BAFTA for Best Pre-school Animation.
Every episode centers on a different individual animal, who is unique in personality. Every animal story is in rhyme. There are morals in the stories told in rhyming couplets, narrated by Steve hosted Playhouse Disney's Circle Time segments.
Mill Creek Entertainment released Animal Stories- The Complete Series on DVD in Region 1 on 18 May 2010.
Larry is a masculine given name in English, derived from Lawrence, Laurence or Laraib. It can be a shortened form of those names.
Larry may refer to the following:
Tommy Edwards (February 17, 1922 – October 22, 1969) was a singer and songwriter. His biggest-selling record was with the multi-million-selling song "It's All in the Game."
Born Thomas Edwards in Richmond, Virginia, Edwards was an R&B singer most remembered for his 1958 hit "It's All in the Game", which appeared in the list of Billboard number-one singles of 1958. He sang his hit song on The Ed Sullivan Show, on September 14, 1958. The song was composed by then-future U.S. Vice-President Charles G. Dawes in 1912 as "Melody in A Major" with lyrics written in 1951 by Carl Sigman. Edwards originally recorded and charted the song in 1951, but it only climbed to #18. The better-known 1958 version was on the same record label (MGM) and was backed by the same orchestra leader (Leroy Holmes), but with a different arrangement more suited to the rock and roll-influenced style of the time. As well as topping the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, the song also got to number one on the R&B chart and the UK Singles Chart. The single sold over 3.5 million copies globally, earning gold disc status. The gold disc was presented in November 1958. He had a more modest hit with the follow-up, "Love Is All We Need," which climbed to #15 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

This is an edited version of a 73 minute tribute that I produced to honor the memory of Chicago Radio Legend Larry Lujack from WLS & WCFL. I received a holiday e-mail from Larry, and his wife Jude two days before he died. The 73 minute version relates to the 73 years he lived. A DVD of the uncut original video can be obtained at www.vuolovideo.com. I wanted this to be special. I hope that I succeeded. There was only one "Super Jock!"

Has to be one of The Best Animal Stories Ever! "Thanks for all the laughs growing up"... "Rest In Peace, Ol Uncle Lar".....
Remembering my childhood - I grew up in Sheboygan, Wisconsin during the time Rock and Roll radio was tops and personalities on radio were SUPREME. We would listen to WOKY in Milwaukee - The Mighty 92 with Bob Barry. Or WLS and WCFL in Chicago - those two states were always in battles - But it was not just the music you listened for it was the personality and the contests they had. I actually started my career in radio broadcasting. It was fun but the media was changing, therefore I went into producing and directing for television and film. This is dedicated to Larry Lujack who was a Top 40 Music radio disc jockey who was well known for his world-weary sarcastic style. "Klunk Letter of the Day", the darkly humorous "Animal Stories" with sidekick "Little Tommy," and the "Cheap Trashy Show B...

Superjock YOUR CHARMING AND DELIGHTFUL OLE' UNCLE LAR Larry Lujack was the best disc jockey of the AM Top 40 era. After his death, people nationwide recounted in minute detail things he said on radio over 40 years ago. Imagine the talent required to do that. Lujack became a DJ in the early 1960's during the emerging heyday of AM Top 40. A huge youth market across America of Baby Boomers was poised to listen to rock music, and the disc jockey's job was to fill airtime between music, news, traffic, and commercials with upbeat patter, jokes, and feigned excitement. Lujack was the groundbreaker, the first to abandon the standard DJ attitude. Sarcastic, barbed, and blessed with a great voice for radio, if he thought a record was bad, he'd tell his audience . But above all, he was sincere; ...

Here's a segment from Screaming Yellow Theater - the original Svengoolie, which aired on WFLD Channel 32 from 1970-1973. Svengoolie was played by Jerry G. Bishop. This Break #2 from an unknown episode number features Larry Lujack - "Superjock" disc jockey from (at the time) WLS-AM 890 radio. I'm thinking that "SYT #1" as the clapboard person says, refers to the fact that it's Movie #1. (2 movies a night were shown for most of the run of SYT) According to the TV listings, the two movies shown this night were "The Horrible Dr. Hichcock" and "Curse Of The Faceless Man", so we can say that this aired during the former. The song you hear in the background was Svengoolie's theme song, the 1958 instrumental "Rumble" by Link Wray and his Ray Men. (with a loop of some screams added for...
