Rites and Rituals: your brief and video tutorial for the April Clique Challenge

Your April Challenge theme is “Rites and rituals”.

A first birthday, school formal, wedding, or an early morning swim – your brief is to create an entry that documents a rite or ritual.

Rites and rituals can include coming of age moments such as losing a baby tooth, to religious holiday activities celebrated every year such as collecting eggs on Easter Sunday. April is busy with religious holidays and events, so remember to plan ahead.

You could also document everyday rituals that are more specific to an individual or group. This can include a morning run, a team huddle before a sports game, or reading the newspaper with a cup of coffee in the morning.

Fairfax photographer Janie Barrett joins us for the April video tutorial with advice on capturing rites and rituals.

Rules of entry

  • Make sure you’re logged into your correct Clique account before uploading below.
  • You can enter a maximum of one entry per Challenge.
  • Your image must be under 100MB, 300 dpi and in JPEG form to upload successfully.
  • Entries for the Clique monthly Challenges in 2017 must have been made in 2017 (on or after January 1, 2017).
  • Late entries will not be accepted.
  • A limited amount of image post-processing is allowed, but images having excessive “manipulation” (in the opinion of the judge/s) may be scored down.
