Looking for beauty in the mundane

An exhibition now on show tries to find beauty in the mundane.

An Inconsistent Look, at Magnet Gallery, presents the work of three photographers: Barry Douglas, Carlo Oggioni and Felipe Devoto.

"The works of these three focus on the uneasy and distract from the norm," Magnet Gallery said.

Featured photographer Carlo Oggioni's series – which documented commuters in Melbourne over the course of several years – was an observation in the dehumanising forces at play in an urban setting.

"My work specifically focused on the way that humans are almost dehumanised when they're commuting. It is such a daily routine," Carlo Oggioni told Fairfax Media.

"Commuting has become almost robotic", Oggioni said, "One of the most radical changes I observed was the greater amount of time that people spend commuting as they live further away from the city."

An Inconsistent Look is now on show at Melbourne's Magnet Gallery until 27 April.
