Kruger National Park is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. It covers an area of 19,485 square kilometres (7,523 sq mi) in the provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga in northeastern South Africa, and extends 360 kilometres (220 mi) from north to south and 65 kilometres (40 mi) from east to west. The administrative headquarters are in Skukuza. Areas of the park were first protected by the government of the South African Republic in 1898, and it became South Africa's first national park in 1926.
To the west and south of the Kruger National Park are the two South African provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga. In the north is Zimbabwe, and to the east is Mozambique. It is now part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, a peace park that links Kruger National Park with the Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe, and with the Limpopo National Park in Mozambique.
The park is part of the Kruger to Canyons Biosphere an area designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as an International Man and Biosphere Reserve (the "Biosphere").
A national park is a park in use for conservation purposes. Often it is a reserve of natural, semi-natural, or developed land that a sovereign state declares or owns. Although individual nations designate their own national parks differently, there is a common idea: the conservation of 'wild nature' for posterity and as a symbol of national pride. An international organization, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and its World Commission on Protected Areas, has defined "National Park" as its Category II type of protected areas.
While this type of national park had been proposed previously, the United States established the first "public park or pleasuring-ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people", Yellowstone National Park, in 1872. Although Yellowstone was not officially termed a "national park" in its establishing law, it was always termed such in practice and is widely held to be the first and oldest national park in the world. The first area to use "national park" in its creation legislation was the US's Mackinac Island, in 1875. Australia's Royal National Park, established in 1879, was the world's third official national park. In 1895 ownership of Mackinac Island was transferred to the State of Michigan as a state park and national park status was consequently lost. As a result, Australia's Royal National Park is by some considerations the second oldest national park now in existence.
A park is an area of natural, semi-natural, or planted space set aside for human enjoyment and recreation or for the protection of wildlife or natural habitats. It may consist of grassy areas, rocks, soil, and trees, but may also contain buildings and other artifacts such as monuments, fountains or playground structures. In North America, many parks have fields for playing sports such as soccer, baseball and football, and paved areas for games such as basketball. Many parks have trails for walking, biking and other activities. Some parks are built adjacent to bodies of water or watercourses, and these parks may comprise a beach or boat dock area. Often, the smallest parks are in urban areas, where a park may take up only a city block or less. Urban parks often have benches for sitting and they may contain picnic tables and barbecue grills. Parks have differing rules regarding whether dogs can be brought into the park: some parks prohibit dogs; some parks allow them with restrictions (e.g., use of a leash); and some parks, which may be called "dog parks," permit dogs to run off-leash.
National may refer to:
South Africa, officially the Republic of South Africa, is the southernmost sovereign state in Africa. It is bounded on the south by 2,798 kilometers of coastline of southern Africa stretching along the South Atlantic and Indian Oceans, on the north by the neighbouring countries of Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe, and on the east by Mozambique and Swaziland, and surrounding the kingdom of Lesotho. South Africa is the 25th-largest country in the world by land area, and with close to 53 million people, is the world's 24th-most populous nation. It is the southernmost country on the mainland of the Old World or the Eastern Hemisphere.
South Africa is a multiethnic society encompassing a wide variety of cultures, languages, and religions. Its pluralistic makeup is reflected in the constitution's recognition of 11 official languages, which is among the highest number of any country in the world. Two of these languages are of European origin: Afrikaans developed from Dutch and serves as the first language of most white and coloured South Africans; English reflects the legacy of British colonialism, and is commonly used in public and commercial life, though it is fourth-ranked as a spoken first language.

This sighting of two lions killing a buffalo happened at Jones's Dam on the S36. The sighting took place 21 October 2016. It was very dry and there was no water in the dam. We drove to the dam and saw nothing at the dam. Just as we left we saw a herd of buffalo charging over the road towards the dam with the lioness chasing after them. We returned to the dam to see the lioness still persueing the herd of buffalo. Just as the buffalo went over the rige and out of sight the lioness turned around. The lioness went and crouched behind the anthill and layed there for a while. Then an old buffalo bull that could not keep up with the rest walked towards the anthill without spotting the lioness. The lioness charged the buffalo. That is when I started filming on my fathers point and shoot camera. W...
Travel video about destination Kruger Park in South Africa. South Africa is famous for its exceptional natural beauty and amazing variety of flora and fauna and in this respect the Kruger National Park is somewhat akin to a modern day Noah's Ark.The park's Black Rhinos were once an endangered species due to ruthless poaching but now the park is a welcome sanctuary for these wonderful creatures and it also protects the Hyena as well as the African continent's most endangered predator, the Wild Dog. In the dry season most of the park's wildlife gathers around a few remaining waterholes and it is then the perfect time to observe the animals at close quarters. The fascinating fauna that is to be found in South Africa along with its incredible range of wildlife, scenery and unique ambience, de...
Travel video about nature park Kruger National Park. In 1898, a small area between Sabie and Crocodile River was designated as a National Wild Animal Reserve, thus making the Kruger National Park Africa’s oldest animal sanctuary. It is 450 kilometres long and about 55 kilometres wide and is one of the largest animal parks in the world, with 147 animal species, over 500 bird varieties, and 114 different reptiles. The Kruger Park is divided into three areas. Whilst bush land and mopane trees form the northern half, the wide grass plains of the central region are home to a large number of wild animals. In the lush vegetation of the southern half, that consists mainly of acacia trees and bush land, is the preferred habitat of rhinos, hippos and many other wild animals. The elephant, rhino, Afri...

If you gave me a list of only 10 more bucket-list travel experiences I could potentially have for the rest of my life, experiencing an African wildlife safari would be right near the top. After making the long bus journey from Johannesburg to Kruger National Park, I couldn't believe this - once in a lifetime - experience was finally about to happen. Waking up at the crack of dawn, we boarded our Land Rover and drove off in the dark to the gates of Kruger National Park. It wasn't long before we witnessed sunrise and our first animal encounter spotting prancing impalas. Visitors were watching a rare sighting of interaction between an Elephant and 2 Rhinos when a Safari Guide first drove off road to pass a car and then carried on driving 'through' the sighting.
