Mothers Day meets roller derby

by Contributer

Roller derby is a fast-paced, hard hitting game played on roller skates…and you can watch it right here in Toowoomba!

The Toowoomba City Rollers have been bringing roller derby to the Darling Downs since 2009, and are proud to host their first local event for 2017. Mother’s Mayhem is guaranteed to have plenty of thrills and spills, all with a mother’s day-themed twist.

Mothers’ Mayhem will feature two games of roller derby. In the first game, Toowoomba’s junior roller derby team (Range Rascals) will take on the Ipswich Scare Force. Junior roller derby is played by skaters aged between 6 and 17. There might be some comical height differences between team members, but these tough kids and teenagers know the meaning of teamwork. Some skaters from the Range Rascals recently participated in the Australian Junior Roller Derby nationals in New South Wales and are excited to show their skills on home turf.

The second game will see the Toowoomba City Roller’s women’s team (Range Renegades) skating against the Buzz Kills from Brisbane’s very own Sun State Roller Girls. Adult women’s roller derby is an exciting show of strength and strategy. The Range Renegades are currently training for two high-level tournaments that will take place later in the year, and this game will prepare them well as they match up against some friendly foes.

Door open at 5:00PM on Saturday the 6th of May at the Clive Berghofer Arena (235 Herries Street). Entry is $5 per person and free for kids aged 5 and under. There will also be raffles, commentators, plenty of seating, hot food, and an 18+ bar area. See the Mothers’ Mayhem Facebook event for full details:

Mothers’ Mayhem isn’t just a treat for mum – it’s a night out for the whole family!
