Brass is a metal alloy made of copper and zinc; the proportions of zinc and copper can be varied to create a range of brasses with varying properties. It is a substitutional alloy: atoms of the two constituents may replace each other within the same crystal structure.
By comparison, bronze is principally an alloy of copper and tin. However, bronze and brass may also include small proportions of a range of other elements including arsenic, phosphorus, aluminium, manganese, and silicon. The term is also applied to a variety of brasses, and the distinction is largely historical. Modern practice in museums and archaeology increasingly avoids both terms for historical objects in favour of the all-embracing "copper alloy".
Brass is used for decoration for its bright gold-like appearance; for applications where low friction is required such as locks, gears, bearings, doorknobs, ammunition casings and valves; for plumbing and electrical applications; and extensively in brass musical instruments such as horns and bells where a combination of high workability (historically with hand tools) and durability is desired. It is also used in zippers. Brass is often used in situations in which it is important that sparks not be struck, such as in fittings and tools around explosive gases.
"Flight of the Bumblebee" is an orchestral interlude written by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov for his opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan, composed in 1899–1900. The piece closes Act III, Tableau 1, during which the magic Swan-Bird changes Prince Gvidon Saltanovich (the Tsar's son) into an insect so that he can fly away to visit his father (who does not know that he is alive). Although in the opera the Swan-Bird sings during the first part of the "Flight", her vocal line is melodically uninvolved and easily omitted; this feature, combined with the fact that the number decisively closes the scene, made easy extraction as an orchestral concerto piece possible.
Here is the text of the scene where the Swan-Bird sings during this music:
Although the "Flight" does not have a title in the score of the opera, its common English title translates like the Russian one (Полёт шмеля = Polyot shmelya). Incidentally, this piece does NOT constitute one of the movements of the orchestral suite that Rimsky-Korsakov derived from the opera for concerts.
Canadian Brass is a Canadian brass quintet formed in 1970 in Toronto, Ontario by tubist Charles Daellenbach and trombonist Gene Watts. The group performs internationally and has recorded more than 130 CDs and DVDs. They have commissioned, performed, and recorded hundreds of transcriptions and original works for brass quintet. Canadian Brass has a library of more than 600 compositions and arrangements specially and uniquely fashioned for them.
As of 2016, the quintet is composed of trumpeters Caleb Hudson and Chris Coletti, hornist Bernhard Scully, trombonist Achilles Liarmakopoulos and Charles Daellenbach.
The "Kings of Brass," as described by the Ottawa Citizen, had their first European tour in 1972 with the Festival Singers. The Canadian Brass (known for their unique performance attire of formal black suits with white running shoes) made its American debut at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC in 1975. A significant international visit was made in 1977 when they were sent to mainland China as a cultural exchange between Canada and China. The ensemble was chosen and sent on this cultural mission by then-Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau. They are now remembered in China as the first Western musicians allowed into China after the Cultural Revolution had suppressed Western art and music.
Brass knuckles, also sometimes called knuckles, knucks, brass knucks, knucklebusters, or knuckledusters, are weapons used in hand-to-hand combat. Brass knuckles are pieces of metal shaped to fit around the knuckles. Despite their name, they are often made from other metals, plastics or carbon fibers. Designed to preserve and concentrate a punch's force by directing it toward a harder and smaller contact area, they result in increased tissue disruption, including an increased likelihood of fracturing the victim's bones on impact. The extended and rounded palm grip also spreads across the attacker's palm the counter-force that would otherwise be absorbed primarily by the attacker's fingers, reducing the likelihood of damage to the attacker's fingers.
Metal ring and knuckle style weapons date back to ancient times and have been used all over the world for many hundreds of years. The Nihang Sikhs used an early variant called Sher Panja in the 18th century. Cast iron, brass, lead, and wood knuckles were made in the United States during the American Civil War (1861–1865). Soldiers would often buy cast iron or brass knuckles. If they could not buy them, they would carve their own from wood, or cast them at camp by melting lead bullets and using a mold in the dirt.

Plot: In a film advertised and sold as a Damon Runyon story, but actually combined elements from his "All Scarlet" and another story written by J. Robert Bren and Norman Houston called "Odds Are Even", horse breeder Tom Martin, in a streak of bad luck, is persuaded by his daughter Doris to enter a mare in the feature race at the county fair. There, Martin rejects a tout's proposition to throw the race, and he also meets his old friends, the "Judge" and the "Warbler". The race starts and the mare, just short of reaching the wire and winning the race, is crowded into the rail and ruined as a racer. The Martins return home, where Ruth busies herself in training a colt, Katydid. She enters the horse in a claiming race at Santa Anita, where she gets lots of publicity as a novelty girl trainer.Wealthy, amateur horseman Steve Wendall offers her a job as trainer of his stable, but she refuses. Katydid wins but is claimed by Bradford, Wendall's trainer, on behalf of Wendall, who has done so simply to get Ruth to accept his job offer. She does, and goes East and then to Europe, winning time and again with the Wendall horses she has trained. But there is a falling out between Ruth and Wendall, who doesn't think Katydid can win the Santa Anita, and Ruth who thinks Wendall has had the horse kidnapped to keep it out of the race.

The process begins with procuring cooled cakes of metal that are flattened into thin plates and then hammered into curved shapes. Utensils are manually finished by polishing with sand and tamarind juice. They may be manufactured for ritual or utilitarian purposes, both for individual and community use on special occasions such as weddings or at temples. The process of manufacturing is transmitted orally from father to son. Country(ies): India © 2009 by Punjab Heritage Tourism Promotion Board, Punjab Duration: 00:10...
Autumn's back and it's cool again.
And, the better things that you feel set into the cold.
Grab your jacket, fix your hat, and face the snow.
Throw your pack across your back before you go.
A slow goodbye and the batt'ry dies
'Fore your breathe your last is your second life. You're alive.
Pay your pleasantries to all the passers by.
Say the words to them, but never beg the why.
Sleeping in to save your cold goodbye.
Slipping down the same old rope. Goodbye.
The blink of an eye and the tears you cry.
Carry luggage along the electric line this time.
Swear your heart out yours won't intersect with mine.
Unwrap your silverware as you prepare to dine.
And you're carried away to the nearest place.
Yeah, you've seen it before, the familiar face, this town.
Jason's chomping at his bit to send your 'round.
Hanging upside like a spider spin you down.
You're sleeping to beat of the real thing.
'Cause you got and cold and unescapable feeling, yeah.
You put the horse before the car.
You got a mark on your head and a battle scar.
Take the title to escape your past.
