Street Scenes, also known as Street Scenes 1970 is a documentary directed by Martin Scorsese. It documents two protest rallies against the Vietnam War that took place in May 1970: the Hard Hat Riot on Wall Street in New York City and Kent State/Cambodia Incursion Protest in Washington, D.C. The numerous camera operators do impromptu interviews with the protestors and the spectators. The New York protest turns violent as protestors were attacked by construction workers who supported the war. The Washington protest is peaceful. At the end, Scorsese, Harvey Keitel, Jay Cocks and Verna Bloom discuss the events and the current state of world affairs. Oliver Stone was one of the many camera operators.
A street is a public thoroughfare (usually paved) in a built environment. It is a public parcel of land adjoining buildings in an urban context, on which people may freely assemble, interact, and move about. A street can be as simple as a level patch of dirt, but is more often paved with a hard, durable surface such as concrete, cobblestone or brick. Portions may also be smoothed with asphalt, embedded with rails, or otherwise prepared to accommodate non-pedestrian traffic.
Originally the word "street" simply meant a paved road (Latin: "via strata"). The word "street" is still sometimes used colloquially as a synonym for "road", for example in connection with the ancient Watling Street, but city residents and urban planners draw a crucial modern distinction: a road's main function is transportation, while streets facilitate public interaction. Examples of streets include pedestrian streets, alleys, and city-centre streets too crowded for road vehicles to pass. Conversely, highways and motorways are types of roads, but few would refer to them as streets.
Kurt Julian Weill (March 2, 1900 – April 3, 1950) was a German composer, active from the 1920s in his native country, and in his later years in the United States. He was a leading composer for the stage who was best known for his fruitful collaborations with Bertolt Brecht. With Brecht, he developed productions such as his best-known work The Threepenny Opera, which included the ballad "Mack the Knife". Weill held the ideal of writing music that served a socially useful purpose. He also wrote several works for the concert hall, as well as several Judaism-themed pieces.
Weill was born on March 2, 1900, the third of four children to Albert Weill (1867–1950) and Emma Weill (née Ackermann; 1872–1955). He grew up in a religious Jewish family in the "Sandvorstadt", the Jewish quarter in Dessau, Germany, where his father was a cantor. At the age of twelve, Kurt Weill started taking piano lessons and made his first attempts at writing music; his earliest preserved composition was written in 1913 and is titled Mi Addir. Jewish Wedding Song.

This familiar instrumental theme was written by famed motion picture composer Alfred Newman in 1931 as part of his very first complete score for the movies. The film was King Vidor's atmospheric New York City drama "Street Scene," produced for Samuel Goldwyn and based upon the Pulitzer Prize winning stage play of 1929. The tune was later heard behind the opening credits of several well-known film noir features during the 1940s, though its most memorable placement was as the wide-screen Technicolor prelude/overture to 20th Century Fox's 1953 Cinemascope hit "How To Marry A Millionaire," a filmed concert performance with Fox music chief Newman conducting the studio orchestra. These are the sights and sounds of the World Naked Bike Ride in Madison, Wisconsin on June 18th, 2011. It shows the riders as they make their way through the city streets and includes interviews with people on the street witnessing the event. Shot by a participant in the ride, and a friend of the ride as he followed the tour around the city. This event was a breakthrough, because in 2010 the Madison Police ticketed a number of riders and generally made the event unpleasant for everyone. This year, they asked for one volunteer to be ticketed at the end of the ride. Riders were otherwise allowed to make their demonstration without interference. For that the riders were grateful.
