Nissan to sell Dandenong headquarters
Nissan is following in the tracks of other major automotive manufacturers and listing its Melbourne headquarters for sale, but for different reasons.
The Japanese carmaker has put its 11-hectare national corporate office and warehousing distribution centre at 260-270 Frankston Dandenong Road in the city's south-east on the market.
While other automotive giants such as Holden and Toyota are selling substantial brownfield sites as they shut down their Australian operations, Nissan is selling because of its expanding workforce.
CBRE's David Aiello and Stephen Adgemis have been appointed to sell Nissan's head office, a two-storey building with 4846 square metres of net lettable area, and three separate warehouse facilities with a total building area of 27,584 sq m.
The property will be offered with vacant possession, Mr Aiello said.
"With only 28 per cent of the site utilised in its current form, there is a huge opportunity to further capitalise on its position through value-add or expansion possibilities," he said.
Nissan has outgrown the office and administration portion of the site and will look at relocating staff to another office in Melbourne's south-east.
The distribution side of Nissan's business is now handled by the global logistics company CEVA Logistics, which recently opened a half-a-kilometre-long storage and distribution facility in Truganina.
The Nissan facility may fetch about $35 million, market insiders suggest.
