About Coolangatta

Coolangatta: The Gateway to the Gold Coast

Located firmly on the border between Queensland and New South Wales, Coolangatta offers a prime location for a holiday. Coolangatta is known as one of the twin towns, as it has a similar town known as Tweed Heads on the New South Wales side. Of the two, Coolangatta is the place to be for a laid back, relaxing holiday; however, there is still plenty of fun and excitement to be had. This town benefits from a humid subtropical climate, which means there is never a bad time to visit, with even the cooler months being extremely comfortable. There is a vast selection of holiday rental options in Coolangatta. Holidaymakers have access to everything from holiday homes to gorgeous apartments overlooking the water.

A Water Lover's Dream

There are many beaches in and around Coolangatta, so the sands are never overly crowded and there is ample room to stretch out and relax. Coolangatta Beach is the main beach in the area, and it is patrolled during the busiest times of year. The beach boasts unspoiled sands and calm spots that are ideal for wading in, though there are also some spots with rougher surf that is more suited to surfers. Protected from the wind that rolls in off the open ocean, Kirra Beach is both quiet and beautiful. This beach is patrolled for visitor safety and there is plenty of parking onsite. Snapper Rocks is the place to be for surfing. This spot is popular with locals and boasts some of the most beautiful scenery in the area, with the waves crashing over the natural rock formations.

Pamper Yourself

After a day on the beach, why not pamper yourself in one of Coolangatta's many spas? Since taking scenic walks through the area is rough on your body, treat yourself to a massage. Choose from many options such as aromatherapy, deep tissue or even get a couple's massage to enhance your romantic holiday. If you are getting ready for a big night out in Coolangatta or in a neighboring town, try one of the spas' facials, manicures or pedicures. Of course, there are other ways to pamper yourself, such as visiting Coolangatta's Healing Centre. Here, get a massage, have your tarot cards read, enjoy traditional spa offerings or cleanse your spirit; you truly have the ability to pamper your soul and your body.

Stay Active

Sometimes, lounging in the golden sand just does not cut it when it comes to holidays, and for days like that, Coolangatta offers plenty to do. Surfing is, of course, extremely popular in the area and even beginners have the opportunity to catch some waves, thanks to Walkin' on Water Surf School. Based on Greenmount Beach, the surf school is the only fully licensed and registered school in the state and offers instructors that are trained to help surfers of all ages. Though the views from the coast are great, snorkeling and diving are great ways to explore Coolangatta offshore. Guided tours are offered. To take in the sights from above, try your hand at skydiving with Gold Coast Skydive. During your jump, enjoy all of the Gold Coast scenery from 12,000 feet above the water.

Fun in Town

Spend some time in town, starting with the Sports Club. Rack up the balls on the billiards tables, or sample some of the food the club offers. Hosting Showcase Shopping Centre on Marine Parade is the place to be for shopping. There are a variety of quirky local shops and convenience stores that provide everything you need for a comfortable holiday. Bistros, restaurants, cafes and other eateries are found throughout the main part of town, as well. At certain times during the month, Coolangatta hosts farmers and arts and crafts markets that make for fun perusal.

Getting to Coolangatta

Getting to Coolangatta could not be easier, as there is an international and domestic airport located right in town: Gold Coast Airport. From here, use the services of a shuttle or public transportation or hire a car to reach your rental accommodations.
