Show comments

Rather than tea and scones, it's a curry and a box set over at the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's place.

Prince William and Duchess Kate gave a glimpse into their seemingly normal private lives at Kensington Palace during a light-hearted studio chat with BBC Radio 1 on Friday.

Eat like a Royal, have a curry

During a light-heartedheared, studio chat with BBC Radio 1, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge talked about their preferred choice of television and takeaway.

They opened up about their favourite takeaway, Prince William's sensitivity to spicy food, his dad dancing, the royal family WhatsApp group, how they use their phones "far too much", Prince George's DIY gift to Queen Elizabeth II for her 91st birthday, and their desire to attend British music festival Glastonbury.

Prince William said they both "loved" music and he joked about donning a beard and a hat to go incognito at concerts, but added: "I've got into enough trouble with my dancing recently, so it's probably best to stay away from that one to be honest."

They forgo The Crown, but love watching box sets, including Homeland and Game of Thrones, "once the kiddies are in bed", the Duchess said.

Prince William admitted to watching Australian soap Neighbours after school.

But with George, 3, and Princess Charlotte, 1, about, he said they watch "a lot of children's programs" at the moment.

"You have to pretend you're really interested because George gets quite upset if you're not showing due diligence to the characters," Prince William explained.

"Fireman Sam has taken an awful lot of interest, George has gone past Peppa Pig stage, Charlotte will probably be into Peppa Pig soon."

When it comes to a takeaway, there is no doubt about Duchess Kate's food of choice.

"Curry, definitely," she said.

However, Prince William is not as sure. "It's a real conundrum when it comes to it – pizza, curry or Chinese."

"You do struggle for choice," Duchess Kate said to Prince William.

"I'm not so good with the spicy food," he explained.

However, the delivery person doesn't call around to Kensington Palace. Instead, they have someone pick it up for them.

It was the Queen's 91st birthday on the day the pair visited Radio 1, but she's not so easy to buy for.

"It's quite hard to know what to give the Queen for her 91st birthday that she hasn't already got," said Prince William.

"Now the great-grandchildren are around you see they can make stuff and that goes down really well. It doesn't matter what it looks like.

"George does, he's very good at arts and crafts."

Duchess Kate quipped to Prince William: "Are you taking credit for the arts and crafts?"

Prince William laughed: "Just putting the marriage on the line there."

Prince William and Duchess Kate called into the studio to help raise awareness for their mental health campaign Heads Together, and to surprise presenter Adele Roberts, who is running the London Marathon on Sunday for the charity.

Before they headed off they helped Greg James kick off The Official Chart, with Prince William joking about Harry [Styles] "coming along to spoil Easter" for Ed Sheeran.

"Sounds familiar," he quipped about another Harry – his brother.
