What a game that was. A true battle with neither giving an inch. Reminiscent of many grand slam finals I've watched over the years.

Kyrgios can take a lot from that. Whether he can build on it is up to him and his mental state, but talent-wise he belongs at the top four level.

Here's the final point as Federer made yet another final and Kyrgios was left fuming at a missed opportunity.

That's all from me. Thanks for following along for what was a belter of a match.

Until next time,

Jamie out.

Kyrgios exits to more boos, jeers and whistles. Uncalled for as he has by and large been well-behaved tonight. Broken rackets are pretty part-and-parcel of modern tennis.

He showed his true potential tonight. Federer is the form player on tour and Nick matched him in every set.

Federer, meanwhile, shows no signs of aging. He will meet Rafa Nadal in the final to write another chapter in their epic rivalry.

The broken racket of Kyrgios

Federer wins

A big serve wide and Kyrgios can't get his return over. Kyrgios bashes his racket into the court with rage as Roger salutes the partisan crowd.

Federer wins 7-6 (11-9), 6-7 (9-11), 7-6 (7-5).

6-5 Federer match point

Kyrgios goes big with his second serve but it goes long. Double fault and Federer has match point.

5-5

Kyrgios explodes at the crowd after he skews his return from a very deep Federer shot. Exasperation finally getting the better of the Aussie.

To his credit, he is 100 per cent in the right there.

5-4 Kyrgios

Federer over hits (just) and Kyrgios gets the advantage. He serves now.

4-4

Kyrgios sends a rocket of a forehand at Federer who had rushed the net, but Roger manages to control the volley and win the point.

4-3 Kyrgios

A thunderbolt serve to Federer's body and Kyrgios takes the lead.

3-3

Federer challenges a Kyrgios shot mid-point and gets away with it. The shot is long and we're back level.

3-2 Kyrgios

Nick sends his shot long to give Roger a reprieve.

3-1 Kyrgios

Federer was completely in control in that point but sent his winner long. Kyrgios suddenly with the advantage.

2-1 Kyrgios

And again, Nick's serve leaves Federer with no chance.

Another tiebreak

Kyrgios unleashes a thunderbolt to win the game and we're going to another tiebreak.

40-0.

Federer sends his forehand long off a deflection from the top of the net.

Ace.

Kyrgios goes to his number one weapon and goes 15-0 up.

6-5 Federer

Roger wins his service game to love showcasing his full range of skills and the pressure is back on Nick to stay in this game.

Is another tiebreak looming?

Will Kyrgios melt down again?

Will I ever get some lunch?

All these questions to be answered after the change of ends.

5-5

But if the pressure was on, Kyrgios was not aware. A massive serve in the first deuce point gives him the advantage, followed by a regulation serve-volley to take the game.
