Rajkot: Australian batsman Chris Lynn and Gautam Gambhir have shared a record opening stand to give Kolkata Knight Riders victory over Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League.
Lynn, who has played five T20 and a single one-day international for Australia, and Indian veteran Gambhir made 184 without loss to claim a thrilling 10-wicket victory in Rajkot and the highest opening partnership in IPL history.
It was also the biggest chase with all 10 wickets intact in all Twenty20 cricket.
Lynn finished on 93 from 41 balls, a strike rate of almost 230, while Gambhair made 76 from 48 deliveries as the pair mowed down the total with more than five overs to spare.
Knight Riders captain Gambhir won the toss and elected to field. Suresh Raina top-scored for the Lions with an unbeaten 68 as his side posted what would have seemed a respectable 4-183.
Praveen Kumar was the only bowler to concede less than 10 runs an over as Lynn, opening the batting for just the third time, and Gambhir let fly. Worst hit was Dwayne Smith, whose solitary over went for 23 runs.
