Piha is a coastal settlement on the west coast of the Auckland Region in New Zealand with a population of 600. It is one of the most popular beaches in the area and a major day-trip destination for Aucklanders throughout the year, and especially in summer.
Piha is 39 kilometres west of Auckland city centre, on the Tasman Sea coast to the north of the Manukau Harbour, on the western edge of the Waitakere Ranges. Immediately to the north of Piha is Whites Beach, and immediately to the south is Mercer Bay; land access to both is only by foot. The nearest beaches accessible by road are Karekare to the south, and Anawhata to the north.
The area has retained much of its natural beauty and isolation. As well as two surf beaches there are also a sheltered lagoon and several streams. The rugged coastline and forested Waitakere Ranges offer a number of walks, or tramps, ranging from easy to very difficult. Piha is a well known black sand beach, due to the high iron content, which is of volcanic origin.
New Zealand (/njuːˈziːlənd/ new-ZEE-lənd, Māori: Aotearoa [aɔˈtɛaɾɔa]) is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses – that of the North Island, or Te Ika-a-Māui, and the South Island, or Te Waipounamu – and numerous smaller islands. New Zealand is situated some 1,500 kilometres (900 mi) east of Australia across the Tasman Sea and roughly 1,000 kilometres (600 mi) south of the Pacific island areas of New Caledonia, Fiji, and Tonga. Because of its remoteness, it was one of the last lands to be settled by humans. During its long isolation, New Zealand developed a distinctive biodiversity of animal, fungal and plant life. The country's varied topography and its sharp mountain peaks, such as the Southern Alps, owe much to the tectonic uplift of land and volcanic eruptions. New Zealand's capital city is Wellington, while its most populous city is Auckland.
Somewhere between 1250 and 1300 CE, Polynesians settled in the islands that were to become New Zealand, and developed a distinctive Māori culture. In 1642, Abel Tasman, a Dutch explorer, became the first European to sight New Zealand. In 1840, representatives of the British Crown and Māori Chiefs signed the Treaty of Waitangi, making New Zealand a British colony. Today, the majority of New Zealand's population of 4.5 million is of European descent; the indigenous Māori are the largest minority, followed by Asians and Pacific Islanders. Reflecting this, New Zealand's culture is mainly derived from Māori and early British settlers, with recent broadening arising from increased immigration. The official languages are English, Māori and New Zealand Sign Language, with English predominant.
Auckland (/ˈɔːklənd/ AWK-lənd), in the North Island of New Zealand, is the largest and most populous urban area in the country. Auckland has a population of 1,454,300, 32 percent of New Zealand's population. It is part of the wider Auckland Region, which includes the rural areas and towns north and south of the urban area, plus the islands of the Hauraki Gulf, resulting in a total population of 1,570,500 that is governed by the Auckland Council. Auckland also has the largest Polynesian population of any city in the world. In Māori, Auckland's name is Tāmaki Makaurau and the transliterated version of Auckland is Ākarana.
The Auckland urban area (as defined by Statistics New Zealand) ranges to Waiwera in the north, Kumeu in the northwest, and Runciman in the south. It is not contiguous; the section from Waiwera to Whangaparaoa Peninsula is separate from its nearest neighbouring suburb of Long Bay. Auckland lies between the Hauraki Gulf of the Pacific Ocean to the east, the low Hunua Ranges to the south-east, the Manukau Harbour to the south-west, and the Waitakere Ranges and smaller ranges to the west and north-west. The central part of the urban area occupies a narrow isthmus between the Manukau Harbour on the Tasman Sea and the Waitemata Harbour on the Pacific Ocean. It is one of the few cities in the world to have two harbours on two separate major bodies of water.

Genres: ,Piha Bar is one of New Zealand's most iconic surf spots. While only 40 minutes drive from downtown Auckland, the 'Bar' can be difficult to predict due to fast moving swells coming out of the Tasman Sea. The unpredictable shape of the wave means it is possible to get lucky and enjoy world class waves with only a handful of other surfers out. Access to the break through the cave in Taitomo Island is for advanced surfers only. For more information on when or where to surf, contact www.pihasurfschool.com

Piha can be one of the most unpredictable beaches in the world. In this video there is a strong 2-3m swell grinding in on low tide yet there are still a score of surfers prepared to go out and try to find some magic among the mush. www.pihasurfschool.com

Beautiful evening of 9 February 2017 watching the surfers gather in a large flock out on the water. Torrential rain came about 30 minutes later. -- Last shoot I did with the GH4 before the GH5 arrived. A sad farewell! This took about 12 hours to render. It was mostly due to the Flicker Free plugin which takes several minutes per frame as it analyzes 17 frames at once looking for flicker on the timelapses. UPDATE: After talking to Digital Anarchy about it I simply moved the plugin to the first place position ahead of Lumetri. If I re-rendered, it would take less than 2 hours now. Simple little change, big difference! A couple of shots snuck in at 1080 50p so I used Instant4K from Red Giant on them. Can you guess which ones? Warp stabilizer on a couple of telephoto shots as well. Sea...

The class of the Australian surfers Josh Constable and Nic Jones proved too much for the Kiwi surfers at the first event of the 2011 Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour as the two Aussies walked away with big wins in their respective divisions. The first event of the tour was played out at the south end of Piha Beach in clean 1.0m waves. The bar at Piha has been showing some exceptional form recently and today was no different with some amazing waves coming through all morning. Constable was odds on favourite to win the event given his lengthy list of i...

Lány žltých slnečníc
cítim voľnosť ako blázni
pijem slzy z tvojich líc
viem že všetko musí ísť
aj keď neviem čo sa stane
lány žltých slnečníc
lúče slnka pália tvár
dotýkajú sa nám dlane
aspoň chvíľu zažiť raj
koľko ľúbiš toľko si
chutnaj chvíle zadýchané
lány žltých slnečníc
dýchaj ma dýchaj
chvíľu nevrátiš už späť
dýchaj dýchaj
