London boroughs are the thirty-two principal subdivisions of the administrative area of Greater London and are each governed by a London borough council. The London boroughs were all created at the same time as Greater London on 1 April 1965 by the London Government Act 1963 and are a type of local government district. Twelve were designated as Inner London boroughs and twenty as Outer London boroughs. London boroughs have populations of around 150,000 to 300,000, which is equivalent to a typical English city. Inner London boroughs tend to be smaller, both in terms of population and area, and have higher population densities than Outer London boroughs. The London boroughs were created by combining whole former units of local government, and a review undertaken between 1987 and 1992 led to a number of relatively small alterations in borough boundaries.
London borough councils provide the majority of local government services, in contrast to the strategic Greater London Authority, which has limited authority over all of Greater London. The councils were first elected in 1964 and acted as shadow authorities until 1 April 1965. Each borough is divided into electoral wards, subject to periodic review, for the purpose of electing councillors. Council elections take place every four years, with the most recent elections in 2010 and the next elections due in 2014. The political make-up is dominated by the three major national parties. Twenty-eight councils follow the leader and cabinet model of executive governance, with directly elected mayors in Hackney, Lewisham, Newham, and Tower Hamlets. The London boroughs and London borough councils cover Greater London outside the City of London, which is instead governed by the City of London Corporation and the Inner and Middle Temples.

Borough Market is one of the oldest markets in London and I come to borough market quite a bit throughout the year because it’s possibly the best source of exceptional British & international food & drink in London. Its just across the road from London Bridge Train & Tube Station and the Shard Building.
On this trip we visit Monmouth coffee for a cup of coffee and some beans to use at home, Neils Yard Dairy for Cheese, Roast Restaurant for one of their British Roast Dinner roasted meat baguettes, Bread ahead bakery & bakers for some bread & doughnuts, Brindisa London Bridge Spanish foods & Tapas bar / BBQ for a chorizo roll, a duck confit sandwich from Le Marché du Quartier
The shops, pubs, bars & restaurants open pretty much every day but the market doesn't, I will put a link below to their website so you can check there current opening days & opening hours – but the best day to visit is Saturday which is the biggest market day & its fully fired up with traders & visitors and the opening times can change seasonally so check out their website before visiting.

There are many famous things to do in London, but if you're a food lover like I am, one of the best choices you can make it to take a trip to the historical Borough Market. The market is one of the most well-known in all of London. The history goes way back, and it was formerly a place where people came and gathered to trade and sell their fresh produce. For many years it was very informal and without structure. But the official Borough Market was established in 1885, the place that we can visit today.
We were only in London for a couple of days, attending the Chowzter.com food awards (http://chowzter.com/), and one thing I knew we needed to do, was visit Borough Market with an empty stomach. It was Friday morning at about 10 AM when we decided to go - and I think it was just about a perfect time - because many of the vendors were just opening up, and the market wasn't as packed as it could be. The best things to do as soon as you arrive to Borough Market is to take a leisurely stroll around and see what is available for you to eat - there are too many things to eat in one visit, so it's important that you choose wisely, and decide what you want to eat.
Some of the most famous things include the salt beef sandwich, the grilled cheese sandwich, the duck confit sandwich, chorizo, and many other delicious things. But along with cooked food, there's also a range of cured meats, and wonderful cheeses. I also really enjoyed the fresh produce, which included a nice variety of mushrooms and beautiful heirloom tomatoes.
But anyway let's get back to the food, and I'm talking about the food ready to be eaten. As soon as I arrived I saw a stack of cheese and olive bread-sticks which were piled high like a pyramid. That was my first treat. The long bread-stick was crusty and embedded with salty cheese and delicious olives. While walking around, in the back part Borough Market, we decided to try a Portuguese egg tart. It was good but I thought it could've been better if it was a little warmer. Next up we tried a sausage on a stick from a place called Boston Sausage. I added a bunch of English mustard to it, and I think that's what made it so good.
If you want to drink coffee, when you visit London's Borough Market you cannot miss the famous Monmouth coffee shop. It can be quite busy and hard to find a seat, so we decided just to get takeaway coffee, as I really needed something to wake me up and keep me energized to eat more. My little shot of macchiato was fantastic.
Back to the food, we went to a place called Brindisa and ordered up one of their famous chorizo sandwiches. The chorizo was very tasty, and had a nice spicy flavor to it, but I thought the bread was way too big for the amount of meat. If I ordered it again, I would for sure get the double chorizo. Finally for my last sandwich at Borough Market, I went with the famous duck confit sandwich. You'll see the incredible pan of duck confit when you visit the market, and if you're like me, it should entice you to eat it immediately. When you order, the vendor fills up a bunch of duck into a ciabatta roll. The duck was incredibly tender, juicy, and oily, and it was amazingly tasty. That just about wrapped up everything I ate at Borough Market in London. There were still many more things I wanted to try, but like I said, it would be a near impossible feat to eat everything in one visit to the market. If you want to eat and you're in London, this is one of the best places to visit.

Full market is open on Wednesday -- Thursday from 11 am -- 5 pm, Friday from 10 am -- 6 pm, and Saturday from 8 am -- 5 pm (closed on Sunday)
Prices: It would not be hard to spend 20 GBP per person eating here

LONDON — British Prime Minister Theresa May said it was “time to say enough is enough” after Islamist terrorists struck again at the heart of the country’s capital.
Seven victims are confirmed to have died, and a further 48 were injured in the attack, which began at 9:58 p.m. on Saturday when three suspects in a speeding white van drove onto London Bridge, CNN reported.
The van plowed into pedestrians at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour before mounting the sidewalk outside the Barrowboy and Banker pub.
At 10:07 p.m, ambulances arrived at the scene of the initial attack. One minute later, as police arrived at London Bridge, they began receiving reports of a second incident at nearby Borough Market.
The suspects ran through the market, entering bars and restaurants and stabbing people with knives.
At 10:16 p.m. police said the three suspects had been shot dead at Borough Market, outside the Wheatsheaf pub. Police said the attackers were wearing fake suicide vests.
It took the police eight minutes from the time they received the first emergency call to confront and kill the attackers, according to the Guardian.
ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack, which is the third terrorist atrocity to hit the UK in just three months.

Yeah I was just outside Borough Market and I saw loads of people run away from the market and there were people lying on the ground and there was a taxi driver with his window down at people to run. And we ran for 100 meters and saw loads of police cars turned up and there was a period of quite intense gunfire. I hid in a restaurant basement for about an hour and then we were down there for quite a while. The police told us to get out and then there was more gunfire outside, as soon pretty much as we left the building. So we've been down there for about another half hour and then they've just evacautaed us now.

Borough Market is a wholesale and retail food market in Southwark, Central London, England. It is one of the largest and oldest food markets in London.
Information and history
The retail market operates on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 5pm, Fridays from 10am to 6pm, and Saturdays from 8 am to 5 pm. The wholesale market operates on all weekday mornings from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m.
The present market, located on Southwark Street and Borough High Street just south of Southwark Cathedral on the southern end of London Bridge, is a successor to one that originally adjoined the end of London Bridge. It was first mentioned in 1276, although the market itself claims to have existed since 1014 "and probably much earlier" and was subsequently moved south of St Margaret's church on the High Street. The City of London received a royal charter from Edward VI in 1550 to control all markets in Southwark (see Guildable Manor), which was confirmed by Charles II in 1671. However, the market caused such traffic congestion that, in 1754, it was abolished by an Act of Parliament.

London Bridge

Several historical bridges named London Bridge have spanned the River Thames between the City of London and Southwark, in central London. The current crossing, which opened to traffic in 1974, is a box girder bridge built from concrete and steel. This replaced a 19th-century stone-arched bridge, which in turn superseded a 600-year-old medieval structure. This was preceded by a succession of timber bridges, the first built by the Roman founders of London.
The current bridge stands at the western end of the Pool of London but is positioned 30 metres (98 ft) upstream from previous alignments. The traditional ends of the medieval bridge were marked by St Magnus-the-Martyr on the northern bank and Southwark Cathedral on the southern shore. Until Putney Bridge opened in 1729, London Bridge was the only road-crossing of the Thames downstream of Kingston-upon-Thames. Its importance has been the subject of popular culture throughout the ages such as in the nursery rhyme "London Bridge Is Falling Down" and its inclusion within art and literature.

Get all information here: http://migrationology.com/2014/05/borough-market-london/ There are many famous things to do in London, but if you're a food lover like I am, one of the best choices you can make it to take a trip to the historical Borough Market. The market is one of the most well-known in all of London. The history goes way back, and it was formerly a place where people came and gathered to trade and sell their fresh produce. For many years it was very informal and without structure. But the official Borough Market was established in 1885, the place that we can visit today. We were only in London for a couple of days, attending the Chowzter.com food awards (http://chowzter.com/), and one thing I knew we needed to do, was visit Borough Market with an empty stomach. It was Friday morning at about 10 AM when we decided to go - and I think it was just about a perfect time - because many of the vendors were just opening up, and the market wasn't as packed as it could be. The best things to do as soon as you arrive to Borough Market is to take a leisurely stroll around and see what is available for you to eat - there are too many things to eat in one visit, so it's important that you choose wisely, and decide what you want to eat. Some of the most famous things include the salt beef sandwich, the grilled cheese sandwich, the duck confit sandwich, chorizo, and many other delicious things. But along with cooked food, there's also a range of cured meats, and wonderful cheeses. I also really enjoyed the fresh produce, which included a nice variety of mushrooms and beautiful heirloom tomatoes. But anyway let's get back to the food, and I'm talking about the food ready to be eaten. As soon as I arrived I saw a stack of cheese and olive bread-sticks which were piled high like a pyramid. That was my first treat. The long bread-stick was crusty and embedded with salty cheese and delicious olives. While walking around, in the back part Borough Market, we decided to try a Portuguese egg tart. It was good but I thought it could've been better if it was a little warmer. Next up we tried a sausage on a stick from a place called Boston Sausage. I added a bunch of English mustard to it, and I think that's what made it so good. If you want to drink coffee, when you visit London's Borough Market you cannot miss the famous Monmouth coffee shop. It can be quite busy and hard to find a seat, so we decided just to get takeaway coffee, as I really needed something to wake me up and keep me energized to eat more. My little shot of macchiato was fantastic. Back to the food, we went to a place called Brindisa and ordered up one of their famous chorizo sandwiches. The chorizo was very tasty, and had a nice spicy flavor to it, but I thought the bread was way too big for the amount of meat. If I ordered it again, I would for sure get the double chorizo. Finally for my last sandwich at Borough Market, I went with the famous duck confit sandwich. You'll see the incredible pan of duck confit when you visit the market, and if you're like me, it should entice you to eat it immediately. When you order, the vendor fills up a bunch of duck into a ciabatta roll. The duck was incredibly tender, juicy, and oily, and it was amazingly tasty. That just about wrapped up everything I ate at Borough Market in London. There were still many more things I wanted to try, but like I said, it would be a near impossible feat to eat everything in one visit to the market. If you want to eat and you're in London, this is one of the best places to visit. LONDON — British Prime Minister Theresa May said it was “time to say enough is enough” after Islamist terrorists struck again at the heart of the country’s capital. Seven victims are confirmed to have died, and a further 48 were injured in the attack, which began at 9:58 p.m. on Saturday when three suspects in a speeding white van drove onto London Bridge, CNN reported. The van plowed into pedestrians at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour before mounting the sidewalk outside the Barrowboy and Banker pub. At 10:07 p.m, ambulances arrived at the scene of the initial attack. One minute later, as police arrived at London Bridge, they began receiving reports of a second incident at nearby Borough Market. The suspects ran through the market, entering bars and restaurants and stabbing people with knives. At 10:16 p.m. police said the three suspects had been shot dead at Borough Market, outside the Wheatsheaf pub. Police said the attackers were wearing fake suicide vests. It took the police eight minutes from the time they received the first emergency call to confront and kill the attackers, according to the Guardian. There are many famous things to do in London, but if you're a food lover like I am, one of the best choices you can make it to take a trip to the historical Borough Market. The market is one of the most well-known in all of London. The history goes way back, and it was formerly a place where people came and gathered to trade and sell their fresh produce. For many years it was very informal and without structure. But the official Borough Market was established in 1885, the place that we can visit today.
We were only in London for a couple of days, attending the Chowzter.com food awards (http://chowzter.com/), and one thing I knew we needed to do, was visit Borough Market with an empty stomach. It was Friday morning at about 10 AM when we decided to go - and I think it was just about a perfect time - because many of the vendors were just opening up, and the market wasn't as packed as it could be. The best things to do as soon as you arrive to Borough Market is to take a leisurely stroll around and see what is available for you to eat - there are too many things to eat in one visit, so it's important that you choose wisely, and decide what you want to eat.
Some of the most famous things include the salt beef sandwich, the grilled cheese sandwich, the duck confit sandwich, chorizo, and many other delicious things. But along with cooked food, there's also a range of cured meats, and wonderful cheeses. I also really enjoyed the fresh produce, which included a nice variety of mushrooms and beautiful heirloom tomatoes.
But anyway let's get back to the food, and I'm talking about the food ready to be eaten. As soon as I arrived I saw a stack of cheese and olive bread-sticks which were piled high like a pyramid. That was my first treat. The long bread-stick was crusty and embedded with salty cheese and delicious olives. While walking around, in the back part Borough Market, we decided to try a Portuguese egg tart. It was good but I thought it could've been better if it was a little warmer. Next up we tried a sausage on a stick from a place called Boston Sausage. I added a bunch of English mustard to it, and I think that's what made it so good.
If you want to drink coffee, when you visit London's Borough Market you cannot miss the famous Monmouth coffee shop. It can be quite busy and hard to find a seat, so we decided just to get takeaway coffee, as I really needed something to wake me up and keep me energized to eat more. My little shot of macchiato was fantastic.
Back to the food, we went to a place called Brindisa and ordered up one of their famous chorizo sandwiches. The chorizo was very tasty, and had a nice spicy flavor to it, but I thought the bread was way too big for the amount of meat. If I ordered it again, I would for sure get the double chorizo. Finally for my last sandwich at Borough Market, I went with the famous duck confit sandwich. You'll see the incredible pan of duck confit when you visit the market, and if you're like me, it should entice you to eat it immediately. When you order, the vendor fills up a bunch of duck into a ciabatta roll. The duck was incredibly tender, juicy, and oily, and it was amazingly tasty. That just about wrapped up everything I ate at Borough Market in London. There were still many more things I wanted to try, but like I said, it would be a near impossible feat to eat everything in one visit to the market. If you want to eat and you're in London, this is one of the best places to visit.

LONDON — British Prime Minister Theresa May said it was “time to say enough is enough” after Islamist terrorists struck again at the heart of the country’s capital.
Seven victims are confirmed to have died, and a further 48 were injured in the attack, which began at 9:58 p.m. on Saturday when three suspects in a speeding white van drove onto London Bridge, CNN reported.
The van plowed into pedestrians at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour before mounting the sidewalk outside the Barrowboy and Banker pub.
At 10:07 p.m, ambulances arrived at the scene of the initial attack. One minute later, as police arrived at London Bridge, they began receiving reports of a second incident at nearby Borough Market.
The suspects ran through the market, entering bars and restaurants and stabbing people with knives.
At 10:16 p.m. police said the three suspects had been shot dead at Borough Market, outside the Wheatsheaf pub. Police said the attackers were wearing fake suicide vests.
It took the police eight minutes from the time they received the first emergency call to confront and kill the attackers, according to the Guardian.
ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack, which is the third terrorist atrocity to hit the UK in just three months.

Yeah I was just outside Borough Market and I saw loads of people run away from the market and there were people lying on the ground and there was a taxi driver with his window down at people to run. And we ran for 100 meters and saw loads of police cars turned up and there was a period of quite intense gunfire. I hid in a restaurant basement for about an hour and then we were down there for quite a while. The police told us to get out and then there was more gunfire outside, as soon pretty much as we left the building. So we've been down there for about another half hour and then they've just evacautaed us now.

Borough Market is one of the oldest markets in London and I come to borough market quite a bit throughout the year because it’s possibly the best source of exceptional British & international food & drink in London. Its just across the road from London Bridge Train & Tube Station and the Shard Building.
On this trip we visit Monmouth coffee for a cup of coffee and some beans to use at home, Neils Yard Dairy for Cheese, Roast Restaurant for one of their British Roast Dinner roasted meat baguettes, Bread ahead bakery & bakers for some bread & doughnuts, Brindisa London Bridge Spanish foods & Tapas bar / BBQ for a chorizo roll, a duck confit sandwich from Le Marché du Quartier
The shops, pubs, bars & restaurants open pretty much every day but the market doesn't, I will put a link below to their website so you can check there current opening days & opening hours – but the best day to visit is Saturday which is the biggest market day & its fully fired up with traders & visitors and the opening times can change seasonally so check out their website before visiting.

There are many famous things to do in London, but if you're a food lover like I am, one of the best choices you can make it to take a trip to the historical Borough Market. The market is one of the most well-known in all of London. The history goes way back, and it was formerly a place where people came and gathered to trade and sell their fresh produce. For many years it was very informal and without structure. But the official Borough Market was established in 1885, the place that we can visit today.
We were only in London for a couple of days, attending the Chowzter.com food awards (http://chowzter.com/), and one thing I knew we needed to do, was visit Borough Market with an empty stomach. It was Friday morning at about 10 AM when we decided to go - and I think it was just about a perfect time - because many of the vendors were just opening up, and the market wasn't as packed as it could be. The best things to do as soon as you arrive to Borough Market is to take a leisurely stroll around and see what is available for you to eat - there are too many things to eat in one visit, so it's important that you choose wisely, and decide what you want to eat.
Some of the most famous things include the salt beef sandwich, the grilled cheese sandwich, the duck confit sandwich, chorizo, and many other delicious things. But along with cooked food, there's also a range of cured meats, and wonderful cheeses. I also really enjoyed the fresh produce, which included a nice variety of mushrooms and beautiful heirloom tomatoes.
But anyway let's get back to the food, and I'm talking about the food ready to be eaten. As soon as I arrived I saw a stack of cheese and olive bread-sticks which were piled high like a pyramid. That was my first treat. The long bread-stick was crusty and embedded with salty cheese and delicious olives. While walking around, in the back part Borough Market, we decided to try a Portuguese egg tart. It was good but I thought it could've been better if it was a little warmer. Next up we tried a sausage on a stick from a place called Boston Sausage. I added a bunch of English mustard to it, and I think that's what made it so good.
If you want to drink coffee, when you visit London's Borough Market you cannot miss the famous Monmouth coffee shop. It can be quite busy and hard to find a seat, so we decided just to get takeaway coffee, as I really needed something to wake me up and keep me energized to eat more. My little shot of macchiato was fantastic.
Back to the food, we went to a place called Brindisa and ordered up one of their famous chorizo sandwiches. The chorizo was very tasty, and had a nice spicy flavor to it, but I thought the bread was way too big for the amount of meat. If I ordered it again, I would for sure get the double chorizo. Finally for my last sandwich at Borough Market, I went with the famous duck confit sandwich. You'll see the incredible pan of duck confit when you visit the market, and if you're like me, it should entice you to eat it immediately. When you order, the vendor fills up a bunch of duck into a ciabatta roll. The duck was incredibly tender, juicy, and oily, and it was amazingly tasty. That just about wrapped up everything I ate at Borough Market in London. There were still many more things I wanted to try, but like I said, it would be a near impossible feat to eat everything in one visit to the market. If you want to eat and you're in London, this is one of the best places to visit.

Full market is open on Wednesday -- Thursday from 11 am -- 5 pm, Friday from 10 am -- 6 pm, and Saturday from 8 am -- 5 pm (closed on Sunday)
Prices: It would not be hard to spend 20 GBP per person eating here

LONDON — British Prime Minister Theresa May said it was “time to say enough is enough” after Islamist terrorists struck again at the heart of the country’s capital.
Seven victims are confirmed to have died, and a further 48 were injured in the attack, which began at 9:58 p.m. on Saturday when three suspects in a speeding white van drove onto London Bridge, CNN reported.
The van plowed into pedestrians at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour before mounting the sidewalk outside the Barrowboy and Banker pub.
At 10:07 p.m, ambulances arrived at the scene of the initial attack. One minute later, as police arrived at London Bridge, they began receiving reports of a second incident at nearby Borough Market.
The suspects ran through the market, entering bars and restaurants and stabbing people with knives.
At 10:16 p.m. police said the three suspects had been shot dead at Borough Market, outside the Wheatsheaf pub. Police said the attackers were wearing fake suicide vests.
It took the police eight minutes from the time they received the first emergency call to confront and kill the attackers, according to the Guardian.
ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack, which is the third terrorist atrocity to hit the UK in just three months.

And we ran for 100 meters and saw loads of police cars turned up and there was a period of quite intense gunfire. I hid in a restaurant basement for about an hour and then we were down there for quite a while. The police told us to get out and then there was more gunfire outside, as soon pretty much as we left the building. So we've been down there for about another half hour and then they've just evacautaed us now.
