Liberia i/laɪˈbɪəriə/, officially the Republic of Liberia, is a country on the West African coast. Liberia means "Land of the Free" in Latin. It is bordered by Sierra Leone to its west, Guinea to its north and Ivory Coast to its east. It covers an area of 111,369 square kilometres (43,000 sq mi) and is home to 4,503,000 people.English is the official language and over 20 indigenous languages are spoken, representing the numerous tribes who make up more than 95% of the population.
Forests on the coastline are composed mostly of salt-tolerant mangrove trees, while the more sparsely populated inland has forests opening onto a plateau of drier grasslands. The climate is equatorial, with significant rainfall during the May–October rainy season and harsh harmattan winds the remainder of the year. Liberia possesses about forty percent of the remaining Upper Guinean rainforest. It was an important producer of rubber in the early 20th century.

From there, it quickly spread to Liberia and Sierra Leone. Cases also appeared in Senegal and Nigeria, and there was another outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Today, Liberia is at the center of the epidemic, with more than 3,000 cases of infection. About half of them have been fatal. As President Barack Obama announced that he would be sending American military personnel to West Africa to help combat the epidemic, VICE News traveled to Monrovia to spend time with those on the front lines of the outbreak. After years of devastating civil war and political upheaval, Liberia is taking steps to reform its economy. Supported by investment climate teams of the World Bank Group since 2006, the government has established a multi-faceted investment climate program aimed at facilitating business creation and operation.
According to the Embassy and Consulates section, Liberia is open for business with great opportunities for investors. Self-sufficiency in food production is key to Liberia’s economic recovery as agriculture continues to be the dominant sector in the Liberian economy, accounting for more than half the GDP and about 70% employment.
Liberia's economy was hard hit during the Ebola epidemic with the positive growth forecasts slashed by more than half. Local and international trade stuttered. Now as cases are subsiding, companies both big and small are doing what they can to recover. CCTV's Katerina Vittozzi reports
Africa Economy Report 3 of 3 - Liberia - Preying on the Poor - BBC America, recorded 02.03.2010 A look at business across the continent. The BBC talks to the people and businesses who are changing the economic face of Africa. BBC correspondents within report on the growing trends and latest business developments in this region. Recorded from BBC World News.
Amidst the human tragedy of the Ebola epidemic, Liberia is also counting the cost to it's economy. GDP growth forecasts were cut to the bone, and unemployment surged during the 15 month long epidemic. While in Liberia, Katerina Vittozzi met one business woman who has managed to pull-through the worst Ebola outbreak on record.
Liberia government has warned that the ebola outbreak will badly damage the country's economy. Many gains made since the end of the civil war in 2003 could be reversed. It has been forced to cut its growth forecasts and officials fears that food prices will rise as farm workers stay home to avoid infection. CCTV's Katerina Vittozzi filed this report
Liberia is endowed with lots of forest and mineral resources. The exploitation of these resources, for many decades, has not had adequate beneficial impact on the national economy or the livelihood of Liberians, but has led to deprivations and conflict due largely to the lack of transparency and accountability in the operations and regulation of logging, mining, oil and related companies. Generating adequate revenue from the extractive sector was a misery due to corruption. In 2009, the government and people of Liberia recognize the potential positive contribution that forest and mineral resources can make to economic and social development of the Country, and realized these potentials through improved resource governance that encompasses and fully implements the Principles and Criteria o...
ArcelorMittal has helped Liberia to jumpstart its economy after being devastated by 14 years of civil conflict. Liberian Journalist Moses Garzeawu recently took a trip to Camp Libya, referred to as the City in the forest, which has a lot of Challenges though it is producing one of the world’s most precious minerals, Diamond.

[Chorus]
I am the alpha and omega
The night and day, the first and last
Illuminosa, immortalis
Sancta gloriosa
Illuminosa, immortalis
Sancta gloriosa
In aeterna
I am the day, soon to be born
I am the light before the morning
[Chorus]
I am the alpha and omega
The night and day, the first and last
Illuminosa, immortalis
Sancta gloriosa
Illuminosa, immortalis
Sancta gloriosa
