All Became Golden is a film and audiovisual record from Essie Jain, conceived by Jain and director Natalie Johns with music arranged by Nico Muhly.
In this innovative project, British singer-songwriter Jain's spare and elegant songs are invigorated by Muhly’s tailored arrangements and the backing of a classical orchestra. The film documents the group as they convene to simultaneously rehearse, perform and record the album, allowing a rare glimpse of the joy, risk, generosity and blind faith inherent in acts of creative collaboration.
All Became Golden sees Jain moving past the angst and inwardness of her younger self, toward interpretations that reflect her current state of mind: joyful, forward-looking and expansive. Themes of gratitude and empowerment, of saying yes instead of no, of placing trust in yourself and the universe are articulated in Jain’s timeless songs, which comprise both new and older original material, as well as a cover of Dire Straits’ “Why Worry.”
The songs were recorded at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music by Grammy-winning recording engineer Justin Guip of Levon Helm Studios and, with a view to this realizing the format of the first audio visual record, Emmy-winning, Grammy-nominated music engineer Bob Clearmountain (Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones) mixed the entire album to edited performances for each song.
Continuing on in the spirit of true independence that gave birth to the film, Martin Mills (Beggars Banquet, 4AD, Matador, Rough Trade) narrates the opening and end of the film.

Jainism
Jainism (/ˈdʒeɪnɪzəm/ or /ˈdʒaɪnɪzəm/), traditionally known as Jain dharma, is an ancient Indian religion that prescribes the path of Nonviolence (ahiṃsā) towards all living beings.Jain philosophy distinguishes the soul (consciousnesses) from the body (matter). Jains believe that all living beings are really soul; intrinsically perfect and immortal. Souls in transmigration (saṃsāra) are said to be embodied in the body like a prison and therefore, experience birth and death. Practitioners believe non-injury (ahimsa) and self-control are the means to liberation from the cycle of births and deaths. The liberated souls are worshipped as God in Jainism. Jain texts reject the idea of a creator or destroyer God and postulates an eternal universe.
Overview
Jain cosmology divides the worldly cycle of time into two parts or half-cycles. According to Jains, in every half-cycle of time, twenty-four tirthankaras grace this part of the Universe to teach the unchanging doctrine of right faith, right knowledge and right conduct. The word Tīrthankara signifies the founder of a tirtha, which means a fordable passage across a sea. The Tirthankara show the 'fordable path' across the sea of interminable births and deaths. Modern history records the existence of last tirthankara, Mahavira (6th century B.C.) and his predecessor Parshvanatha. Jain texts expound that Jainism has always existed and will always exist.

Essie Jain
Essie Jain is an English singer-songwriter born and raised in London, who is now based in New York City.
Biography
Her first published work was a single track, "Why", on the album The Sound the Hare Heard, which contains a single track each from a large number of artists including Sufjan Stevens and Colin Meloy. This record was curated by Slim Moon and released by Kill Rock Stars.
In July 2006 she did a Take-Away Show video session shot by Vincent Moon. In this session, Essie plays acoustic guitar and sings "Understand" and "Glory". Both songs would soon be released on her first full-length record.
Her first full-length record, We Made This Ourselves, drew comparisons to the British folk singers Sandy Denny and Vashti Bunyan. This record was originally released in the United States on Ba Da Bing records and was later released in the rest of the world on The Leaf Label.
The New York Times wrote that "Ms. Jain builds stark miniatures out of a few light strums of guitar and her haunting alto. On her captivating new album, We Made This Ourselves, her voice is multitracked in precise harmonies that can be warm or ghostly."

All Became Golden
All Became Golden is British singer-songwriter Essie Jain's first audio visual album. It was released worldwide on June 28, 2013. This is a collaboration by Jain and filmmaker Natalie Johns (La Blogoteque), featuring compositions and arrangements from Nico Muhly (Two Boys, Björk. The film documents the artists' progress, as they convene to simultaneously rehearse, perform and record the album.
The audio visual release trailer premiered on Huffington Post, while lifestyle magazine BlackBook premiered two more songs from the project, along with an interview with Jain.
The film and the score were recorded in 2 days at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in New York City in February 2012. Performers taking part include Nadia Sirota, Caleb Burhans and Rob Moose, along with a guest appearance by guitarist Larry Campbell of The Levon Helm band. The album yielded a single, "Raise You".
Previous releases by Jain were We Made This Ourselves, and Jain's album of music for children, Until The Light Of Morning.

Wide World
Wide World is a board game published by Parker Brothers, a subsidiary of Hasbro. The players are dealt a number of Destination cards. When a destination is visited then the player takes two Product cards, which are either worth 1 or 2 points. The player who visits all his destinations first then returns home is awarded an extra 5 points, and the player with the most points wins.
To get to their destinations the players roll a die, then move the number of squares shown. The players are not required to land on their destinations exactly (if they are 3 squares away then they can land on their destination if they roll a 5 for example). If a player lands on a red spot on the board, they must take a Travel Agent card and follow the directions printed on it. These cards may move the player around the board, allow them another turn and other actions.
In later versions of the game, a "Weather Vane" was added. It was a plastic sheet which covered a quarter of the board and when a six is rolled it moves, taking any player on it to a different part of the board.

In this innovative project, British singer-songwriter Jain's spare and elegant songs are invigorated by Muhly’s tailored arrangements and the backing of a classical orchestra. The film documents the group as they convene to simultaneously rehearse, perform and record the album, allowing a rare glimpse of the joy, risk, generosity and blind faith inherent in acts of creative collaboration. All Became Golden sees Jain moving past the angst and inwardness of her younger self, toward interpretations that reflect her current state of mind: joyful, forward-looking and expansive. Themes of gratitude and empowerment, of saying yes instead of no, of placing trust in yourself and the universe are articulated in Jain’s timeless songs, which comprise both new and older original material, as well as a cover of Dire Straits’ “Why Worry.” The songs were recorded at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music by Grammy-winning recording engineer Justin Guip of Levon Helm Studios and, with a view to this realizing the format of the first audio visual record, Emmy-winning, Grammy-nominated music engineer Bob Clearmountain (Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones) mixed the entire album to edited performances for each song. All Became Golden is a film and audiovisual record from Essie Jain, conceived by Jain and director Natalie Johns with music arranged by Nico Muhly.
In this innovative project, British singer-songwriter Jain's spare and elegant songs are invigorated by Muhly’s tailored arrangements and the backing of a classical orchestra. The film documents the group as they convene to simultaneously rehearse, perform and record the album, allowing a rare glimpse of the joy, risk, generosity and blind faith inherent in acts of creative collaboration.
All Became Golden sees Jain moving past the angst and inwardness of her younger self, toward interpretations that reflect her current state of mind: joyful, forward-looking and expansive. Themes of gratitude and empowerment, of saying yes instead of no, of placing trust in yourself and the universe are articulated in Jain’s timeless songs, which comprise both new and older original material, as well as a cover of Dire Straits’ “Why Worry.”
