Tuvalu
Tuvalu is classified by the UN as a Least Developed country. Many of the development challenges that it faces are a result of its geography. Situated in the north pacific, south of Hawai’i, it is very vulnerable to climate change and weather events.
The cost of living is high and the population depends on imported food and fuel. The economy is small and fragile and relies heavily on aid and remittances while government funds are mostly derived from the sale of fishing licences.
Oxfam in Tuvalu
Oxfam is currently reinforcing its relationships with local actors such as Natural Disaster Management Offices ( NDMOs) and local Red Cross societies so that, when a humanitarian response is needed, we are able to support these actors.
