Since 1982, Oxfam has supported Colombian civil society initiatives aimed at active citizenship: meaning a broad movement of citizens capable of making proposals, taking democratic decisions in a responsible and informed manner, and demanding compliance with the Colombian constitution and Colombian state accountability.

Economic Justice

We support alternative models that promote rural development in Colombia and contribute to bringing about changes in local public policy on market access and food security and sovereignty. The Economic Justice program also seeks to help the rural sector prevent and adapt to the effects of both climate change and global trade rules.

Rights in Crisis

The Rights in Crisis program aims to ensure that citizens and civil society organizations in Colombia affected by the crisis in human rights and international humanitarian law, and also by natural disasters, contribute towards the Colombian State’s fulfilment of its duty to protect and guarantee their fundamental rights and to resolve the structural causes that fuel the crisis. The program comprises five parts:

  • Campaign against Rape and Other Violence – Leave My Body Out Of the War.
  • Territorial Rights of ethnic-territorial, indigenous, and Afro-Colombian organizations.
  • Adaptation, Risk Reduction, and Humanitarian Response.
  • Right to the City: for participatory and inclusive citizenship.
  • Civil and Political Rights: fighting against impunity.

Women's Rights

With the Women's Rights program, we aim for women's organizations and movements to secure greater involvement in decision-making in social, economic, and political spheres, as well as recognition of their rights in the legislative field, the design of policies, and in social and family matters.

In this way, through the balance in power relations, we seek a change in policies, practices, ideas, and beliefs that reinforce and reproduce the inequalities and violence exerted against women's rights, so that the strategic interests of women are taken into account.
