Indigenous careers strategy

VU has developed Yannoneit, an Indigenous Employment and Career Development Strategy as part of our ongoing commitment to equality and diversity.

Yannoneit Employment Strategy (YES) encourages the recruitment and career development of Indigenous Australians by providing opportunities to gain professional qualifications, work skills and experience in a wide range of jobs at VU.

Aim of the Yannoneit Employment Strategy (YES)

The aim of YES is to:

  • increase the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees at VU
  • accelerate the employment and development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the full spectrum of positions at VU
  • establish VU as a supportive, culturally sensitive and significant employer of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

We provide career opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on a part-time, full-time, fixed term contract, sessional and casual basis. We provide training and can help you gain formal accreditation for learning that occurs on-the-job so you don't always need formal qualifications.

We also have an Indigenous leave policy that allows Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to take leave to meet family, ceremonial and cultural obligations, and stay connected to their community.

The Indigenous Community Liaison Officer can give you more information or help you with an application.

You can also view our Acknowledging country page to see how VU supports the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation's vision for a united Australia.
