I apologize for my childish mind, but here we are back again with a set of tunes which hopefully may introduce kids to pop music, especially with a garage twist. The whacky road will take you to faraway places as Morocco, Istanbul, Terra del Fuego, and Outer Space and you will meet Goldfinger, the Invisible Man, Ahab the Arab, and Indian Chief Unca Dunca reporting about slavery in old Israel and long gone times in Turkey when men were still the undisputed head of the harem. I’m not sure if you should accept the invitation to drop LSD or to down Scotch & Soda all night long though. Probably you’re better off if you don’t speak Italian, French, Spanish and, mostly, German although you might miss good part of the fun. Anyway, I hope you’ll dig the innocence and the madness as much as I do.

Back again to the US of A, with 31 (I think mostly) uncompiled gems dusted off my archives. In this set, a few pre beat items (even from 59!) have made it in as they perfectly incorporate the same garage spirit of what was to come. For the rest, it’s a mixed bag of various genres from Beat to Psyche, with some moody tunes mixed in, I hope you dig ‘em all. Many question marks here, I wonder if someone can help me out with more info. Well, you have been warned. As promised, here’s a double set of whacky surf songs. Of course, California rules, but there’s also bands from faraway places like Canada, Australia, New Zeeland, Mexico, Britain and Germany (Surfing on the Ostsee?).  It all might sound a little whacky and I understand the surf craze was a perfect jumping board for the industry to promote movies and launch all kinds of novelty gimmicks. Hot rods, drag cars, woodies and slot car races were the themes, and the Weird-Ohs and the Rat Fink and Fred Flintstone were the heroes.  What a gas!

Peppers, for instance. Roger Christian and Gary Usher (plus Jimmy Haskell and Dave Weiss) are doing a truly awesome job here. Their harmonies take you away packed with sound effects, fun and teenage fantasies about drag racing, woodies, and riding the wave. This compilation was done in collaboration with my good friend Caveman whose AttodiForza series of Italian Beat is arrived at no 30 with this volume (go visit his paradiseofgaragecomps.blogspot.com in case you‘re not a steady follower yet.) It proves once again that Italy had its own vivid scene of beat groups, and the commercial stars and San Remo contenders tried to hop on the wagon as well, sometimes with appreciable results. All tracks collected have never been picked up on any official or private comp, so you get a whole load of fresh sounds here. Don’t mind some xian tunes and some, later, soulish efforts, it all is meant to make you feel better! I hope you’ll enjoy the Unheard of Maccaroni Beat!

I‘m happy to present 18 tracks I picked off the Swedish Popsan-TV series, aired in October, November and Dicember 1966. All bands fake to play live but actually are playback and lipsinc. Anyway, it’s good fun to watch the entire 11 parts of the show on youtube wasaexpress (thank you); there’s the ufficial site by Swedish TV SVT but unfortunatrelly video clips are down (at leat in my country) and it gives very few data on bands and titels. I could not decypher them all, specially not if in Swedish (maybe a friend from sweet Sweden can help me out..?). Some never compiled bands and sounds here, enjoy the show brothers and sisters!
PS I love the singer of the "Popsan session band"(from the Plums ); I want to be the little teddybear hanging from her Höfner bass….(see pic)
