Police seek witnesses to jewellery store robbery at Tuggeranong shopping centre

Police are calling for witnesses after a jewellery store robbery in broad daylight at the Tuggeranong Hyperdome ended in a dramatic escape on Wednesday.

Around 12.10pm, a man armed with a large hammer entered the Michael Hill Jewellers store and smashed a glass display case, grabbing two gold chains.

When he fled the store, a number of bystanders attempted to stop him, as captured on CCTV footage.

Several people can be seen lunging at the man, who dropped both gold chains during his escape.

He eventually managed to flee the shopping centre but the jewellery was later returned to the store by a member of the public, police said.

The man was wearing grey track suit pants, a black hooded jumper, sunglasses and gloves.
