Victoria Beckham receives OBE from Prince William and Twitter is not amused

Wearing a navy gown and burgundy heels from her lauded Pre-Fall 2017 collection, fashion designer Victoria Beckham has been named an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

The former pouty pop star, who rose to fame as Posh Spice with the Spice Girls in the '90s, was honoured by her friend Prince William at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday.

The designer was supported by her husband David Beckham and parents, Jackie and Tony Adams.

While other members of the Spice Girls cohort have gone on to star in many reality talent shows in far flung places like Australia, and promoted weight-loss programs... also in Australia, over the last 17 years Victoria has gone on to carve out a successful fashion and accessories line, and undertake numerous philanthropic ventures.

Last year she also created a sell-out cosmetics collection for Estée Lauder.

However social media was not impressed a millionaire singer was honoured simply for having a clothing line.

But it seems Victoria couldn't give a "zigazig ah", channelling her inner Posh while posing for photographs outside the Palace.

"It was an absolute pleasure to be at Buckingham Palace today," she said.

"I'm proud to be British, honoured and humbled to receive my OBE from the Duke of Cambridge. If you dream big and work hard you can accomplish great things. I'm so happy to share this very special occasion with my parents and husband. Without their love and support, none of this would be possible."

Her four children, Brooklyn, 18, Romeo, 14, Cruz, 12, and daughter Harper, 5, were not present for the ceremony.

Instead Romeo took to Instagram to celebrate his mother.

"I want to say how proud I am of my mum today as she received her OBE... She works so hard and really deserves this honour... We love you mum x," he wrote.

Prince William, who is a close friend of the Beckhams and invited the couple to his 2011 wedding to Kate Middleton, conducted Victoria's investiture on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II.

Victoria's husband, former English football captain David, was granted an OBE back in 2003.

"It's great to receive an award for playing football, for something I love doing," he said at the time.
