A judge show (also known as a reality court show or judicial show) features small claims court cases which the parties have agreed to have adjudicated in a simulation of a small claims court. In reality, because the forum is merely a television studio and not a real court of law, what is depicted is actually a form of arbitration. Judge shows first arose in the United States and are still predominantly found there.

These television programs tend to air five days a week in the daypart of daytime television, and often cost very little to create. Like talk shows, the format varies based on the titular host. In most cases, they are syndicated programs. The People's Court was among the first court shows to air in the United States when it began in 1981. Since then, dozens of other judges have had their own programs. Justice David Sills noted in one opinion that "daytime television in the early 21st century has been full of 'judge shows,' where ordinary people bring a dispute for decision before a celebrity jurist."^[1] Currently, the highest rated television court show in the United States is Judge Judy. A study found that such shows may have a positive influence in encouraging interest in jury proceedings, but may also have a negative influence by distorting people's perception of courts.^[2]

David Dhawan (born Rajinder Dhawan in Jalandhar, Punjab, India) is an Indian film director. He has studied at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune.

Dhawan started off as an editor and then took the plunge into directing. He specializes in directing comedy films,^[2] most of which have featured either Govinda, Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor or Sanjay Dutt in lead roles, along with Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor and Juhi Chawla playing the leading actresses. Kader Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Johnny Lever and Paresh Rawal appear in his films playing supporting roles. His biggest success to date is the 1993 film Aankhen, starring Govinda and Chunkey Pandey.^[2] His film, Partner (2007) also became a big success at the box office.^[3] Dhawan is considered one of the most successful directors in Bollywood,^[2] but he has been at many times blamed for copying Hollywood and South Indian films. He once had two of his films released on the same date and both did well. Dhawan is on the board of Asian Academy Of Film & Television and Asian School Of Media Studies where he has been honoured with an Academy Award by Sandeep Marwah. He was also a Judge on the Star Plus show Nach Baliye 3 in 2008 and on the show Hans Baliye.

Dhawan is married to Karuna Dhawan and has two children, Rohit and Varun. Rohit has debuted as a director with the film Desi Boyz, while Varun will be launched as an actor in Karan Johar's film Student Of The Year. Dhawan's brother is actor Anil Dhawan.

Gul Panag (born 3 January 1977;^[1] Chandigarh, India) is an Indian actress, voice actress, model, and former beauty queen who competed in the Miss Universe pageant. Her notable films include Dor, Dhoop, Manorama Six Feet Under, Hello, and Straight.

Gul started her education in Sangrur, in Punjab.^[2] However, her father's army career ensured that, she moved to different places across India (and abroad). As a result of this, she studied in 14 different schools including Kendriya Vidyalayas (Chandigarh, Mhow, Leh and Wellington, Tamil Nadu), The Lawrence School, Lovedale and the International School of Lusaka, Zambia.^[2] She did her Bachelors in Mathematics from Punjabi University, Patiala, and Masters in Political Science from Panjab University, Chandigarh.^[2] As a student, Panag was interested in sports and public speaking. She won numerous state and national level debate competitions, including two gold medals at the Annual National Inter University Debate competition.^[1][3]

Gul won the coveted Miss India title in 1999, and was crowned Miss Beautiful Smile at the same pageant.^[4] At the Miss Universe 1999 pageant, she was ranked among the Top 10 contestants. Gul began her career in Bollywood, with the 2003 film Dhoop. Since then, she has worked in films like Jurm (2005) and the TV series Kashmeer.^[5] She played a commoner, fighting hard to save her husband from going to the gallows, in the 2006 Nagesh Kukunoor film, Dor. In 2008, she acted in the films Hello and Summer 2007. In 2009, she was seen in the movie Straight. She featured in Rann in a role attempting to stop her boy friend from doing the right thing. Gul appeared on the front page of Maxim with whom she did a photo shoot in September 2008.^[6][7]

Gul has appeared in numerous advertisements on television and print media over the past decade or so (most notably - The Titan Raga watches ads, and most recently in the Tata Sky ads along with Aamir Khan). Gul is the brand ambassador for Tata Sky, along with Aamir Khan.

She ran at the Delhi Half Marathon in November 2010, but endured eve teasing from male runners at the event. She later remarked that the attitude of men in Delhi needed to change and that the city was unsafe for women.^[8]

Gul is techno-savvy, with strong and interesting views on most subjects. She is highly active on Twitter. She was the Twitter Face for the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week held in 2009, to cover the happenings/proceedings on the micro-blogging site.^[9]

Gul Panag got married to her long time boyfriend Rishi Attari on March 13, 2011 in a gurudwara in Chandigarh in a traditional Punjabi Sikh ceremony.^[10][11]

Sudha Chandran (Tamil: சுதா சந்திரன்) is an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer, Indian film and television actress, who turned to acting following the loss of a leg in an accident in May 1981 near Trichy, Tamil Nadu.

Early life and education[link]

Sudha was born in 21 september 1964.^[1] She earned her B.A from Mithibai College, Mumbai and subsequently an M.A in Economics. In 1981, while traveling from there to the South during pilgrimage via the scindia school in Tamil Nadu, she met with an accident, because of which she had to have her right leg amputation was doctors missing her wound (a cut) in her ankle and by putting plaster on it and covered her leg, leading to infection in the wound. After two weeks when she returned to Madras to review, the doctors cut open the plaster to realize that she had been affected by gangrene and there was no alternative other than to amputate her leg. She has said that this period was the toughest time of her life. She subsequently overcame her disability with the help of a prosthetic 'Jaipur foot', becoming one of the most highly acclaimed dancers of the Indian subcontinent [1] (Times of India, Dec 9, 2011). Her decision to dance again after a gap of two years was met by thunderous applause.^{[citation needed]} She received invitations from all over the world for performances. She was honored with various awards after she performed as far away from home as Europe, Canada and the Middle East. Soon after she catapulted to fame and recognition by venturing into the world of films and television.

The 1984 Telugu film Mayuri in which she plays herself was inspired by her story. The 1986 film Nache Mayuri was a Hindi remake of the Telugu original, in which the cast was changed except for Sudha to suit the North Indian sensibilities. She was awarded the 1986 Special Jury Award at the National Film Awards for her performance in Mayuri.

In the Ekta Kapoor produced serial, Kaahin Kissii Roz, she portrayed the character of "Ramola Sikand" which became an instant hit. She is considered to be one of the more flamboyant stars on Indian television, known for her avant garde sarees, chunk jewellery and designer bindis.

Since then she has acted in several TV shows such as K Street Pali Hill in which she played the character of Gayatri Kaul. The Drama was produced by Ekta Kapoor for Star Plus. She also portrayed the role of a rich brat's mother in Kuch Iss Tara which was telecast on Sony TV and was also produced by Ekta Kapoor. Recently, she has participated in 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa' on Sony TV. She has also acted in a Tamil serial broadcast on Sun TV, titled 'Kalasam' for the role of the antagonist Chandramathi and had Ramya Krishnan in the lead role. She is now into the role of 'Madurai Thilakavathy' in Sun TV's Tamil serial 'Arasi' which has Radhika Sarathkumar in lead role. She plays a lawyer in that serial. Dance appears to be her passion, so much so that she has established a dance academy in Mumbai, ‘Sudha Chandran Academy of Dance', which has branches all over Mumbai and Pune. Ravikumar Dang, Sudha's husband is the executive director of the school. Sudha is often cited as a symbol of "will power".SHe is also one among the judges in popular reality show Super Dancer Junior Series on Amrita TV.
