Education Entry Payment
A once a year payment made when you start study if you get certain income support from us.
Who can get it
There are 2 ways to get Education Entry Payment.
- You can get it if you’ve had one of the following payments for the last 12 months:
- Newstart Allowance
- Parenting Payment partnered
- Partner Allowance, or
- Widow Allowance
And, you’ve also:
- started an approved education course, and
- haven’t had an Education Entry Payment in the last 12 months
- Or, you can get it if you haven’t got Education Entry Payment this calendar year and get:
- Wife Pension, or
- Pensioner Education Supplement and either:
- Carer Payment
- Disability Support Pension
- Parenting Payment single
- Special Benefit in some circumstances, or
- Widow B Pension
How much you can get
Education Entry Payment is a lump sum taxable payment of $208 a year.
When we’ll pay you
You’ll get your first payment either:
- on or after the start date of your course, or
- when your Pensioner Education Supplement starts
You’ll get further payments each year from the date you’re eligible if you get:
- Newstart Allowance
- Parenting Payment partnered
- Partner Allowance, or
- Widow Allowance
For example, if you can get Education Entry Payment in June 2016, you’ll get payments in June each year if you remain eligible.
You’ll get further payments in January each year you get:
- Carer Payment
- Disability Support Pension
- Parenting Payment single
- Special Benefit in some circumstances
- Widow B Pension, or
- Wife Pension
For example, if you get Education Entry Payment in March 2016, you’ll get payments in January each year if you remain eligible.
Claiming
We’ll automatically assess you for Education Entry Payment if you get Pensioner Education Supplement.
If you don’t get Pensioner Education Supplement, you’ll need to call the students line or visit a service centre and ask for an assessment.
You’ll also need to provide proof of your enrolment in an approved education course.
Wait for the results
If you can get Education Entry Payment, the payments will appear in your next statement.
