The 3000 metres or 3000-meter run is a track running event, also commonly known as the 3K or 3K run, where 7.5 laps are completed around an outdoor 400 m track or 15 laps around a 200 m indoor track.
It is debated whether the 3000m should be classified as a middle distance or long distance event. In elite level competition, 3000 m pace is more comparable to the pace found in the longer 5000 metres event, rather than Mile pace. The world record performance for 3000 m equates to a pace of 58.76 seconds per 400 m, which is closer to the 60.58 seconds for 5000 m than the 55.46 seconds for the Mile. However, the 3000 m does require some anaerobic conditioning and an elite athlete needs to develop a high tolerance to lactic acid, as does the Mile runner. Thus, the 3000 m demands a balance of aerobic endurance needed for the 5000 m and lactic acid tolerance needed for the Mile.
In men's athletics, 3000 metres has been an Olympic discipline only as a team race at the 1912, 1920 and 1924 Summer Olympics. It has not been contested at any of the IAAF outdoor championships, but is occasionally hosted at annual elite track and field meetings. It is often featured in indoor track and field programmes and is the longest distance event present at the IAAF World Indoor Championships.
The IAAF Diamond League is an annual series of track and field meetings held from 2010 onwards, beginning with the 2010 IAAF Diamond League. It was designed to replace the IAAF Golden League, which was held annually since 1998.
While the Golden League was formed to increase the profile of the leading European athletics competitions, the Diamond League's aim is to "enhance the worldwide appeal of athletics by going outside Europe for the first time." In addition to the original Golden League members (except Berlin) and other traditional European meetings, the series includes events in China, Qatar, and the United States.
Each one of the thirty-two disciplines (sixteen for male athletes, sixteen for females) is staged a total of seven times during the season. The top three athletes at each meeting are awarded points, and in the case of the Final meeting of the discipline the points are doubled.
1st place: 4 points; (Final: 8 points)
2nd place: 2 points; (Final: 4 points)
3rd place: 1 point; (Final: 2 points)

Mo Farah did his best to prevent the first big event of the indoor season being upstaged by the man who was not there as he set a British record for the 3,000 metres at the Aviva International Match in Glasgow on Saturday. "I knew I was in good shape but not that good," he said after running 7min 40.99sec to beat John Mayock's seven-year-old mark. It was just reward for Farah's gruelling winter regime, which has involved training camps in Kenya and Ethiopia. He said that he has taken inspiration from the work ethic of the Africans, running 120 miles a week and training twice on Christmas Day. Farah has long been the bright hope of British distance running, but was one of the biggest disappointments of the Beijing Olympics last summer, when he failed to reach the 5,000 metres final....

-올림픽육상 - 케냐, 남자 3,000m 장애물 9연패…키프루토, 올림픽 新 In athletics, Kenya's Conseslus Kipruto has won gold in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase,... setting an Olympic record in the process. The 21-year-old came home in a time of eight minutes three-point-two-eight seconds. Kipruto was so far ahead of his rivals that he started celebrating and waving to the crowd at the start of the final straight. With the triumph, Kenya maintains its iron grip on the event. It has now won every 3,000 meter steeplechase since 1968, having boycotted the 1976 and 1980 Olympics for political reasons. I looked at faith
I almost walked away
But I looked again
I found the nerve to close my eyes and say the words
To ask you in
And I heard no heavenly choir
No angels in whit attire
i got no amazing super hum omnipresent pow but....
CHORUS
I know You now
I know You now
I know You're in my heart
I know You now
Beyond the shadow of a doubt
I know You now
I look at peace, that once was out of reach
And now it's here
i read Your word that some believe is so absurd
But I hold dear, yea
'Cause You loved me with your dying breath
You saved me when You conquered death
